Lies

702 Words
"Evelyn, your aunt, said that your mom met your late father's lawyer in private to give you properties that were supposed to be given to Melinda too," Jennifer replied, leaning slightly forward. "I don't think it's true; she is lying," Stephanie spoke. Jennifer spoke again, stepping a little closer as if to make her words heavier. "Evelyn secretly told me that your mom was having an affair with your late father's lawyer named Kennedy so that he would give you some of Princely's properties," she said, watching Stephanie carefully for her reaction. Evelyn was the sister of the late Princely, who was a billionaire. She hated Stephanie's mom, Racheal, because Racheal never allowed Princely to fully take care of her. Because of this, Evelyn had long carried hatred against Racheal. "That is a lie; my mom can never do that. Someone is manipulating all this," Stephanie said, her voice shaking. "That is the truth, Steph," Melinda spoke, moving slightly closer with her arms folded across her chest. "I suspect that you and your mom are responsible for these manipulations. I will take revenge, and you will all regret it," Stephanie said, pointing forward. She dropped the dead baby, then turned away and walked quickly to her room. She packed her bags in a hurry, moving from one corner to another without pause. Without looking back, she left the house, shutting the door behind her with a loud bang that echoed through the building. That evening, she entered the car and drove to her friend's place, gripping the steering wheel tightly as she focused on the road ahead. When she arrived, the door opened before she even knocked. "What happened to you? You look so sad," Valerie, her friend, said. Stephanie remained quiet for a moment until she finally spoke. "Please, can I come in? I am tired," she said softly. "Of course you can come in; you are like family," Valerie said with a gentle smile as she stepped aside to let her in. Inside the apartment, Stephanie sat down heavily. Valerie gently touched her shoulder and then carried Stephanie's belongings to the room. That night, Stephanie told Valerie everything that had happened: how James had betrayed her, how lies had been spread about her and her mother, and how her stepsister had taken over her home. As she spoke, she paused several times, covering her face. Valerie comforted her by sitting close and rubbing her arm softly. "I am so sorry for what happened. Someone better will come," she said. "Thank you. I cannot even sleep. I cannot believe my baby is dead," Stephanie replied, covering her face. "You mean you lost Harrison?" Valerie asked. "Yes, I came back home to see him dead," she said. "Sorry for what happened. Melinda and her family are evil. They have always hated you in the past," Valerie said. "Yes, that is because my father, Princely, loved me more than all of them," Stephanie replied. "Why?" Valerie asked. "It is because I was responsible, hardworking, and intelligent. I was the best student in my school," Stephanie replied. "That is impressive," Valerie said, touching her arm gently. "Yes, because of me, my father drove my stepsisters out of the house for years and stopped caring for them. One of my stepsisters even died from illness. That is why they grew up hating me," Stephanie said, looking down. "This sounds intense, but your father would have still cared for them in his own way," Valerie said. "He could not, because they stole from him and ruined many of his contracts. My stepmother's daughters brought shame to the family," she replied. "I can imagine how painful that must have been for him," Valerie said softly. "Because of them, my father almost died from high blood pressure. His company nearly collapsed, and he was hospitalized several times," Stephanie said. "Sorry for everything that happened," Valerie replied gently, holding her hand. "Thank you for your concern," Stephanie said with a small nod. "Today I heard something so shocking about your family; I do not know if it is true," Valerie said slowly, watching Stephanie carefully. "What is it?" Stephanie asked, sensing that something important was about to be revealed.
