The night felt thick with tension as the convoy moved out under darkness. At the location a warehouse on the city’s edge Alif stood before Alif’s team.
“Positions. Silent entry. No one moves until I say. This one is critical."
On the side Daniel stood calmly in the shadows eyes fixed on the approaching van. Daniel’s expression was unreadable. Two men exited the vehicle. Opened the back.
Daniel stepped forward checking each crate personally. Daniel did not trust anyone. Not Daniel’s own blood.
Then—
“Hands up! Police!"
Floodlights exploded around Daniel and Alif. Guns were raised. Sirens howled in the distance.
Daniel froze.. Then Daniel turned.
There Alif was. Alif.
Standing tall. Unshaken. Alif’s badge glinting in the light.
Alif’s eyes locked with Daniel’s eyes. A spark.. This time, one of betrayal.
Before anyone could move Daniel spun on his heel jumped into his car and peeled off into the night tires screeching.
Alif moved fast. Tackled both men, guns to their heads. Within moments Alif cuffed them. The weapons were secured.
⸻
Later that night…
In the glow of Daniel’s private gym Daniel tore off his shirt. Six-pack abs taut with tension. Sweat glistened on Daniel’s skin, rage burning in his veins. Daniel slammed punch after punch into the bag each hit echoing through the room like thunder.
Alif’s face would not leave Daniel’s mind. Alif’s voice. Alif’s stare. How the hell did she find us?
Across town Alif unloaded the seized weapons at the station. Sahir clapped Alif on the back.
“This is huge. We finally got a piece of them."
Alif was not smiling.
“We missed Daniel " Alif said quietly. " next Time… we will not."
⸻
At that very moment Daniel’s phone buzzed on the table.
Grandfather Ronan.
Daniel stared at the screen.
Daniel let it ring out.
Daniel paused mid-step. That voice. Turning swiftly Daniel found Mira, Daniel’s sister, standing at the door clutching her bag eyes tired but warm.
Daniel quickly pulled on a shirt. "Mira? Everything alright? What brings you here?"
Mira walked in casually her tone light but familiar. "I was bored. Lonely. That house is a mess. Of toxicity. I missed you… so I came here."
Daniel softened immediately. "You should have told me."
Mira’s eyes caught Daniel’s hands. "Daniel... What happened to your knuckles?"
“Nothing. A little hit. It does not matter " Daniel said, brushing it off.
Mira was not buying it. Mira took Daniel’s hand gently pulling Daniel to the couch. From a cabinet Mira pulled out the first-aid box. A silent ritual between Daniel and Mira.
“You should take care of yourself " Mira said, dabbing ointment on Daniel’s bruises.
Daniel looked at Mira eyes momentarily filled with the kind of warmth he rarely showed anyone. "As you say, Maam."
Daniel sighed. "I would ask you to stay but it is not safe. Not with the way thingsre "
Mira nodded. "I get it. I have grown up with this. I do not even expect peace anymore."
Daniel squeezed Mira’s hand. "You know I love you right? If you ever need anything.I am just a call away.. Next time tell me before you show up okay?"
Mira smiled and nodded. "Deal."
Soon as Mira left Daniel’s eyes turned cold again. He picked up his phone. Called one of Daniel’s men.
“I want everything, on that police officer. Name, details, location. Send it now."
Five minutes later Daniel’s phone buzzed with a message.
Name: Alif meer. Location: Cafe St. Claire, downtown.
Daniel took a shower, dressed sharp and proceeded to the restaurant.
Alif sat alone at a table by the window sipping her coffee while reading a report. Alif barely noticed the man walking toward her. Until the man pulled out the chair across from Alif.
Alifs eyes snapped up. Daniel.
Daniels presence was quiet, intense and unapologetically bold. Hello, Officer " Daniel said smoothly locking eyes with Alif.
Alif straightened. "What are you doing here?"
Daniel leaned in slightly. "What you did night... Was not wise.. The result? It will not be good. You are a lone woman, no family... Why not just live your life quietly?"
Alifs jaw tightened. Alifs eyes did not flinch.
Daniel smirked, voice low. "Why is it just you who gets to dig into peoples lives? Daniel looked into Alifs eyes." He paused. "You've got beautiful eyes. Seems like a waste... using them to chase shadows."
Alif smiled.. It did not reach her eyes.
"If you know much then you would also know this: someone with nothing to lose has nothing to fear.. By the way your grandfather tried the same scare tactics last night. Now you have just proved you are his blood."
Alif stood, grabbing her coat.
"I have work to do. We'll meet again.... Next time it will not be, over coffee."
Alif walked away leaving Daniel staring after her -Lips tightened jaw clenched.
After meeting Alif Daniel went to his grandfather. Ronan was extremely angry. Had been waiting for him. The moment he stepped into the office, Ronan fuming with anger turned toward Daniel. Snapped, his voice sharp and cold clearly expressing his fury "Where the hell have you been?" Ronan snapped. "You think what happened last night was normal? Do you realize how much we have lost?"
Daniel stayed calm. "Yes.. We will get it all back.. and Next time... Do not question me. I know what I am doing."
Ronan stood. "U should have told me about her—this cop."
Daniel’s voice dropped. Dangerous. Controlled. "If you want things to go smoothly then keep me in the loop. I do not like being blindsided."
Ronan’s face twisted. "I’ll handle Alif myself."
"No " Daniel said coldly already turning to leave. "She is mine to handle."
The morning sun came through the glass windows of the police headquarters. Inside the air felt cold and tight. Alif walked down the hallway with confidence holding files thinking about the operation from the night before.. When she stepped into her office the door shut behind her. Deputy Commissioner Jameel. A man who had been in the force for thirty years and had many secrets hidden under his medals. Was there his face red with anger. "Who gave you the right to take those weapons?" he shouted. Alif did not react. "Sir the weapons were illegal. We got a tip. I led the team. It's our job." He moved closer his voice cutting. "Your job is to follow the chain of command! You don't decide things on your own like some self- hero. Do you know what kind of trouble you have created for this department?" She raised an eyebrow. "Trouble?. Justice?" He hit her desk with his hand. "Don't push me Officer Alif. You don't know who you are dealing with." Her eyes met his. Calm, but full of fire. "No, Sir. I do. I'm dealing with men who're scared of justice more than criminals. Who wear uniforms. Work for power instead of the people. And if doing the thing brings trouble then so be it." Jameel was speechless. "Do you really think I will ignore the law just because someone important is involved?" she went on her voice strong. "I have my promise.. That means something to me. Even if it doesn't mean
anything to this department anymore." A long silence. Then, without another word, Jameel. Left. Sahir came in just as the door shut, his face white. "That was... Strong." Alif smiled with a bit of bitterness. "Now I know who is protecting Daniel and his grandfather from inside." Sahir nodded slowly. "This is worse than we thought." Alif picked up the case file. Said, "Then we climb higher."
