The first glance
In the center of the city, where fairness often met behavior stood Alif - a brave very attractive police officer, known not just for how she looked but for the strength in her eyes and the memories from her past. She had lost everything when she was young - her family was killed in a way that was very cruel in a case that was never solved. That sad event didn't break her. It made her strong. One morning while having black coffee at her desk Alifs partner Sahir came in with a serious face. "There's a man you need to meet " he said. "Ronan strong, hard to catch. He and his grandson Daniel are in charge of a business that sells human organs. They threaten people control others and run a group of crime under the cover of a hospital. Daniel is his helper. Risky, smart and totally loyal." Alif leaned forward. "If we know all this why haven't we caught them?" Sahir laughed in a way. "Because every time we try they disappear protected by people than us. Leaders, business people... They are like ghosts in the system." Alif got up her badge shining in the light. "Then lets chase the ghosts. Lets see Ronan." They went directly to the place where Ronan worked. His hospital. The person there tried to stop them. "He's in a meeting." Alif didn't move. She went in. Entered the room where Ronan was sitting at a shiny table with men in suits around him. Everyone looked up. "Excuse us gentlemen " she said calmly. "I have something to say to Mr. Ronan." Ronans cold eyes looked at her. "Who are you?" She showed her badge. "Police. I have some questions. Unless you want me to ask them here in front of your... Friends?" Ronan waved his hand. The room left. Silence came. Alif moved closer. "I know what you're doing. From on every breath you take is watched by me. One mistake.... I'll be there." Ronan smiled, not worried. "Officer, the people who are careful... Are the ones who are scared. You are here. I am here. Lets see who makes the move." The air was full of tension. The one chasing and the one being chased looking each other in the eyes. Each step making a sound on the marble floor. Each one showing anger. Sahir was behind her watching with a mix of worry and respect. "I want everything " she said coldly. "All their houses, businesses, money, secret places... And I want all the details on Ronan and Daniel. I don't care how long it takes. Get me everything on Ronan and Daniel." Sahir nodded slowly already using his phone. "Its done." As Alif was walking down the hospital steps a black fancy car stopped at the entrance. The door opened.... Daniel came out. Dressed in a sharp suit looking cold and with a kind of confidence that money couldn't give. It was inherited. Their eyes met. Time stopped for a moment. He didn't know who she was, not yet.. Alif recognized him right away. The face from the paper. Ronans shadow.. His weapon. Daniel raised his eyebrow slightly feeling the look from her. He gave a proud smile and walked past her. Alif didn't move. She watched him leave, her jaw tight. Sahir said, That was Daniel "I know " she said, not looking from him. ". Next time... He will know who I am." As Daniel disappeared through the glass doors Alif turned around. The fight had just started -. She had no plan to lose. Daniel was a man who didn't talk much and felt even less. The weight of his past had made most of his heart go away. Especially when it came to family. His father? A memory. His mother? A memory hard to think about.. There was one person in his cold world: his sister. The only person he had ever truly cared about. The only light, in a childhood filled with dark. As he entered the hospital lobby his sharp eyes met Alifs for a moment. Her eyes. Strong and full of questions. Stared at him. A silent moment. No words. Just a feeling.. Then... He was gone. Inside his grandfathers office the door closed behind him with a sound. Ronan didn't look up. Daniel stood tall his voice calm and short. "What happened?" Ronan shrugged, not interested. "Nothing important. Just someone trying to make trouble." Daniel nodded once. Daniel said, "Fine. I came to tell you that we have a delivery arriving at 2 a.m. Tomorrow." Ronan finally looked at Daniel. Ronan asked, "Will Daniel be there?" Daniel answered, "Yes.. Two men. No more." The fewer people who know the safer it stays. This shipment is critical. No mistakes. Ronan smirked, confidence dripping. Ronan said, "We have eyes everywhere. There will not be a problem." Daniel’s jaw tightened. Daniel said, "Let us not rely on luck." Daniel said, "I have arrangements to make " and Daniel left. Alif stood in her office scanning a file when Sahir burst in urgency, in Sahir’s voice. Sahir said, "One of our informers just dropped intel. There is a delivery tonight. Late. Weapons. Illegal and heavy." Alif didn’t blink. Alif said, "Then what are we waiting for?" Alif grabbed her jacket. Alif said, "Gear up the team. We are moving out. No mistakes.”
