"I demand you stop this trial." I said harshly. The council looked at me like I'd lost my mind, and I swear I'd never been more annoyed in my life. "Excuse me?" One of the members asked shocked. I was trying hard not to lose my temper, they didn't need to know about my eyes, but it was becoming very hard. "I said that I demand you stop this ridiculous trial. If you want to test my magical limits fine so be it, but you will not involve the other students. Putting their lives in danger just to test a single student is stupid and unnecessary. Their lives should not be collateral damage just to serve your egos." I started yelling and I was quickly losing control of my anger.
"I am sorry Miss. Ashford but the trials will go forward as planned." I shot up from my chair my blood beginning to boil. I knew my eyes had changed, but not red. No, no. My vision clouded in a haze of black. All the council member gasped as they retched away from me. "Her eyes." A woman gasped in fear. "If you do not cancel these trials I will refuse to participate. Kick me from school and I will go home to my parents mansion. I really don't care about staying here. Your attempt to test me will fail." My tone was harsh, cold. Never had I known a group of people with so little morals.
"And none of you will ever know the extent of my power. I refuse to expose myself to a bunch of old bags who wants nothing but to use me as a weapon against the rebellion. I will not be a weapon that you can wield. I will not be a chess piece on your board. Do I make myself clear?" The council's faces were grim but they nodded. None of them wanting to test me in the moment. I smiled in satisfaction as I took mt seat.
My vision cleared as I looked around the room. Everyone including Charlotte regarded me with concern. envy and fear. I rolled my eyes. "Is all this really necessary?" I asked exasperated. "And what might that be?" A man asked. "All of you." I said waving my arm across the room. "Looking at me as if I'm a bomb about to combust. Ya, my eyes change. So what? I get mad they turn red and apparently if I am beyond mad they turn black. I'm not a monster, just abnormal." I shrugged.
"Ha!" One of the men scoffed. "Abnormal is one way to put it." I narrowed my eyes at him, the smiled turning into a grimace. "And what pray tell do you mean by that?" I asked through clenched teeth. The man quirked his brow at me as I leaned back in my seat and crossed my arms over my chest. "What I mean is, your power is unknown. Your limits are unknown, everything about you is. Having such an unknown in our midst is concerning."
I laughed as I stood from my seat and walked to the door. "That is something you're going to have to get use to dear council. I will remain an unknown to you all." Without another word, I walked out. If they continued on with this midterm trial, I would stop it. Those damn council members are insane, thinking they can test me like some lab rat. And involve innocent students who have nothing to do with any of it.
"So, how'd it go?" Elana asked as she skipped up beside me. "Honestly, I'm not sure. I did scare them a bit and I think they agreed to cancel the midterm trial, but they are out to get me. They want nothing more than to test me and see what my limits are, to see where my power starts. I need to go back to the mansion and do some research on my family. I need to see why I have as much power as I do."
Elana chewed on her lip and looked down to her feet. I gave her a sad smile. "Don't worry Elana, you don't have to come. I know you still need time after what happened. I'm going alone during break. We only have two weeks left." Elana brightened instantly. "Thank you Anna." I nodded as we continued down the hall.
It was lunch time now, the council had pulled me out of class to talk. I don't know why they couldn't just have waited until after classes were over. I was still new to this supernatural world. Even if I had gotten the hang of the magic part quickly, there was still a whole world out there I had no idea about. Take the fae for example. I didn't even know there were any such thing as fae, but apparently they have their own realm where they attend school and live.
"Hey Anna. How did the meeting go?" Alex asked as he kissed me gently. I sighed as I slid into the booth beside me. "It was alright I guess. I believe I got the midterms canceled but they won't give up. They want to know more about me, my capabilities, my limits." I shook my head. "I'm going back to my parents mansion during break and combing through their library. Surely they have something in there that will tell me something." There just had to be something. Out of everything my parents left me, they had to have left some explanation as to why my power is so much stronger than the others.
"I'm coming with you." I jumped from Axel's sudden voice behind me. "Damn it Axel." I said and swatted him. "Don't sneak up on people, and don't ease drop on people." Axel just smirked as he slid in the booth beside me. "There is no way I'm letting you go alone after what happened last time." I coughed and choked on my food as I stared at him wide eyed. "Ok, let's get something straight. You, have absolutely no say in what I do or do not do. And how the hell do you know what happened last time I went there? And however you found out then you should know I handled it. I don't need protection."
Axel grunted. "I just know, it doesn't matter." He mumbled. He had clearly not suppose to have let me know he knew. "I'm still going with you." I sighed and slapped my hands down on the table causing Elana to jump. "You know what, fine. I don't care. Just don't get in my way, I am going there for a reason and the two week break give me the time I need." Axel nodded and squeezed my thigh under the table. The motion surprised me and I stared at him in shock. But before I could ask he stood up and walked away.
I looked over to Alex and Elana who both shrugged but also stared after Axel like he'e grown three heads. What the hell was that? I was oddly happy don't get me wrong, I haven't had enough time with Axel since he brought me here, but what brought this on so suddenly? I shook my head smiling, whatecer the reason, I'm sure I'll find out.
