The Sun And The Obsidian Chain
Chapter 1: The Sun and the Obsidian Chain The wedding had been a dazzling, exhausting spectacle. Unlike the austere silence of the Gusu Lan ceremonies, the Wei Clan’s capital, Obsidian Citadel, was a riot of sound and shadow. The main hall was draped in heavy silks of black and deep scarlet, lit by roaring braziers rather than cool moonlight. For Lan Wangji, the Second Jade of Lan, the political gravity of the situation was palpable: his family’s resources were dwindling, and this alliance with the immensely powerful Wei Clan was the only guarantee of their survival. He was the most prized offering—a perfect, disciplined ornament given to secure peace. Now, Lan Wangji stood in the private chambers of the Wei Clan Leader, stripped of his outer Lan robes, dressed only in inner silks of rich silver. He waited, perfectly still, his spine straight, every detail of his appearance flawless despite the deep emotional tremor beneath his composure. He was no longer just Lan Wangji, cultivator of Gusu. He was a political possession, and he awaited his new master. The doors hissed open, and the air shifted. Wei Wuxian, the formidable and charismatic leader of the Wei Clan, entered. He was magnificent: tall, confident, and dressed in robes that emphasized his power—black leather interwoven with dark jade and heavy silk. His eyes, usually dancing with mischief, were serious, carrying the heavy weight of command. Wei Wuxian walked toward him, his presence filling the room. He didn’t look at Lan Wangji as an ornament, but as a complex, perhaps unwanted, piece of a deal. “Second Master Lan,” Wei Wuxian said, his voice deep and measured, completely lacking his usual levity. “I trust the journey was comfortable.” “It was sufficient, Sect Leader Wei,” Lan Wangji replied, his voice betraying no emotion. He offered a slight, formal bow, dropping his gaze immediately to the floor. A muscle ticked in Wei Wuxian’s jaw. He closed the remaining distance, stopping just inches from Lan Wangji. He reached out, not to touch, but to gently lift Lan Wangji’s chin with two fingers, forcing the golden eyes to meet his. “I may be the Sect Leader, and this may be a political transaction,” Wei Wuxian stated, his voice softening, becoming private. “But you are my husband now. My name is Wei Ying. Do not drop your gaze, Lan Zhan. I want to look at you.” Lan Wangji’s breath caught. He had prepared for coldness, for demand, even for disrespect. He had not prepared for gentle command delivered with this raw intensity. “Wei Ying,” Lan Wangji whispered, acknowledging the name and the new dynamic. Wei Wuxian’s expression softened completely, the hard political shell dissolving into something deeply human. He knew the pride and sacrifice behind Lan Wangji’s obedience. “Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian murmured, his hand moving to gently cup Lan Wangji’s cheek. “You are the Second Jade. You have spent your life mastering control. Here, in this room, you don't have to carry that burden for me. You are mine. You are safe.” He moved his hands to the white forehead ribbon—the sacred, symbolic representation of Lan Wangji’s rules and identity, which only a spouse may touch. He hesitated, seeking permission in the deep gold of Lan Wangji's eyes. Lan Wangji closed his eyes briefly, offering the first, profound surrender of his life. Take it. You are my master now. Wei Wuxian gently, slowly, slid the ribbon free. He held the ribbon between his thumb and forefinger—the three thousand rules now held by the one man strong enough to protect him. He tucked the ribbon into his own inner sleeve pocket. “I won’t make you a prisoner, Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian promised, his voice low and firm. “But here, I command. I choose what you submit to, and I choose when you are at peace.” He lowered his head and pressed a soft, lingering kiss to Lan Wangji’s temple, the gesture possessive and tender. “You belong to me now,” Wei Wuxian concluded, pulling back just far enough to hold Lan Wangji’s gaze. “And I promise, I will cherish the sun I have captured in my Obsidian chain.”
