CHAPTER ONE
Lena was nervous as she entered the lobby of Nicholas Black's towering office building. She had been a journalist for years, but this was the biggest interview of her career. Nicholas was a billionaire, a reclusive business magnate who rarely spoke to the press. But Lena had managed to secure an interview with him, and she was determined to make the most of it.
As she rode the elevator to the top floor, Lena went over her notes one last time. She had researched Nicholas extensively and knew his business empire inside and out. She had also read up on his personal life, though there wasn't much information available. Nicholas was famously private and rarely gave interviews.
When she reached the top floor, Lena was greeted by a stern-looking receptionist who instructed her to wait in a plush leather chair. Lena fidgeted nervously, trying to calm her nerves. She was about to interview one of the most powerful men in the world, and she didn't want to blow it.
After a few minutes, the receptionist buzzed her through to Nicholas's office. Lena took a deep breath and walked inside.
Nicholas was sitting behind a massive mahogany desk, looking every bit at the wealthy businessman that he was. He was impeccably dressed in a tailored suit, his dark hair perfectly styled. Lena couldn't help but feel a little intimidated.
"Ms Jensen," he said, standing up to greet her. "Thank you for coming."
Lena shook his hand, trying to keep her cool. "Thank you for agreeing to the interview, Mr Black."
Nicholas motioned for her to sit down in a nearby chair. "Please, call me Nicholas."
Lena took a seat and opened her notebook, ready to begin the interview. "So, Nicholas, can you tell me a little bit about your business empire?"
And so the interview began. Lena asked all the tough questions, and Nicholas answered them with ease. He was a skilled businessman, and Lena couldn't help but be impressed by his knowledge and confidence.
As the interview progressed, Lena began to relax a little. Nicholas was surprisingly easy to talk to, and he seemed genuinely interested in her questions. They even shared a few laughs, and Lena couldn't help but feel a little charmed by him.
By the time the interview was over, Lena had completely forgotten about her nerves. She thanked Nicholas for his time, and he walked her to the door.
"It was a pleasure speaking with you, Lena," he said, giving her a charming smile.
Lena felt a flutter in her chest. She had never been affected by a source before, but there was something about Nicholas that drew her in. She quickly pushed the thought aside, reminding herself that she was a professional journalist.
"Likewise, Nicholas. Thank you again for the interview."
As she walked out of the office building, Lena couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to get to know Nicholas Black on a more personal level. But she quickly pushed the thought aside, reminding herself that she was there to do a job. She had a story to write, and she couldn't let herself get distracted by a handsome billionaire
As Lena stepped out of the office building, her phone rang. It was her editor.
"Hey, Lena, how did the interview go?" her editor asked.
"It went well," Lena said. "Nicholas was very cooperative."
"That's great to hear," her editor said. "Listen, I need you to come back to the office right away. We just got some breaking news about Nicholas Black."
Lena's heart raced. What could the breaking news be? Had something happened during the interview that she hadn't noticed? She quickly made her way back to the office, her mind racing with possibilities.
When she arrived, her editor was waiting for her, looking serious.
"Okay, Lena, here's the deal," he said. "We just got a tip that Nicholas Black's business empire is on the brink of collapse. We need you to investigate and get the scoop before anyone else does."
Lena's jaw dropped. This was huge. If the tip was true, it could mean the end of Nicholas's career and the downfall of his entire empire.
"But how am I supposed to investigate?" Lena asked. "I just got finished interviewing the guy. He's not exactly going to be thrilled to see me again."
"Figure it out," her editor said. "You're a talented journalist, Lena. You'll find a way."
With that, her editor dismissed her, leaving Lena to ponder her next move. She knew that she had to find a way to get to the bottom of this story, no matter what it took. But how was she going to do it without tipping off Nicholas?
