Chapter 3: Hit back

Romulus I was f.ucking p.issed to hear Elena had been treating Anita so badly. We hadn’t brought her up to be a bully, and sure as f***k not to her own sister. Growing up with bullies myself meant I knew how it felt. I hated bullies, but to do it to her own sister? I was going to kill her. “What’s up with you?” Jax asked, walking into the living room. The place was huge, and we actually had two living rooms. When the kids came along, the pack had started using the second living room to give us more space and a family setting. They didn’t have to, we never asked them to, but I guess they did it out of respect for their alphas. “I’m fine,” I said. I wasn’t telling Jax, I had no idea how he’d react. Out of all the kids, he was the most overbearingly protective of Anita, which was understandable because she was the most vulnerable. I know he would never hurt Elena, and oddly, out of us all, he was the softest parent, but this would p.iss him off big time, he’d probably just yell at her, tell her off, but there was also that darker side to him that he sometimes lost himself to, he might lose control, and while I knew he wouldn’t hurt Elena, he would probably terrify the s.hit out of her, so I’d deal with it myself, and if things didn’t change, then maybe I’d let her see his scary side. “Lucas was looking for you earlier, what did he want?” Jax asked, dropping himself onto the sofa. “Nothing important,” I replied. He looked at me suspiciously. Jax had serious trust issues. Thankfully he got distracted by arguing in the kitchen. We heard Linda crying, and we both knew who had upset her. Nick. He was the coldest son of a b.itch I’d ever met, and lately all they did was argue. It had been three years, and they were still that on-again-off-again couple. I think they clashed because Nick was cold and he could be cruel, but Linda had autism, and for her, it made her extremely sensitive. She was also very blunt, and so she always told Nick exactly how she felt and how he made her feel. She challenged him, made him think about his actions, and I don’t think he liked that. He was used to Rose’s shy, quiet, and accepting personality. She’d gotten used to how he was like the rest of us, but Linda hadn’t, and she was pushing for a change, not outwardly. She was even more shy than Rose and the sweetest woman there was, but she definitely gave Nick blunt and honest answers, forced him to hear things he probably didn’t want to hear. I’m sure his true mate Ruby had been the same before she died, like Linda, she’d had autism too. I hadn’t heard much about their relationship, but I got enough from Rose to know that they had also had problems because of how he was, and like Linda, she had been bluntly honest. Nick had really struggled accepting Linda as his mate. I think it brought on a lot of pain for him because she reminded him of Ruby. I thought they had worked through that, but I guess I was wrong because, as usual, they were at it again. Jax growled and got up off the sofa, I followed him to the kitchen. He pushed Nick away from Linda and snapped, “leave her alone, you f.ucking bully.” “I’m not bullying her, I only asked her to wear her glasses, and she’s being all dramatic about it,” Nick replied, cold as ice. I went over to Linda and pulled her into my arms. “Come here, love.” She cuddled in against me, and I had to control my anger. She was so sweet and innocent, and I hated how cold Nick could be towards her. I couldn’t entirely blame him though, he couldn’t help himself. He was a full-on sociopath and lacked empathy. I don’t think he felt anything outside of his love for the kids and his mates. Anyone else he’d gladly watch burn before his eyes. Pfft, scratch that, even that was too much emotion for Nick. He’d coldly watch whilst feeling absolutely nothing. I know he loved Linda, he just struggled to show it to her for some reason, probably because of the reasons I mentioned above. I don’t know, but he didn’t have any trouble being soft and loving towards Rose. I suspected it went deeper than surface level, and maybe even a personal level, part of me had started to wonder if it was because of Linda’s submissive nature. Rose was submissive, she was an omega like Linda, but she definitely had more fire and bite in her. She wasn’t afraid to put Nick in his place. He still made her cry sometimes, but she didn’t back down without a fight. Linda, on the other hand, while she was blunt and honest and forced him to question himself, it wasn’t necessarily intentional. She was autistic, and like Anita, she didn’t understand the concept of lying, that’s why she was always so honest, but she didn’t have Rose’s feisty personality. She could argue with Nick, but we all knew he still scared her. She still hesitated around him, at times even walked on eggshells around him, she was afraid to upset him, and he knew that too. Linda was much more submissive in nature than Rose, along with her autism, it made her much more vulnerable. It made us have to be a lot more careful in the bedroom with her, none of us wanted our alpha side dominating her and taking over because she was so submissive and easy to dominate. She was a people pleaser and wouldn’t necessarily speak up. Nick was always respectful in the bedroom too, I’m sure, otherwise, Jax would have cut him up into tiny little pieces. Nick may not have any interest in leading a pack, but he was still an alpha wolf, as dominant as they came, and I was beginning to think it was his dominant hierarchy that was coming into play, his alpha side was reacting to Linda’s submissive and omega side in a negative way. “Are you ok, love?” I murmured, she nodded, sniffling, and I kept my arm around her while Jax growled at Nick, “you know she’s hypersensitive p.rick, don’t be so f.ucking cold towards her.” “It would do her some good to grow a thicker skin,” was Nick’s cold and calm reply. His voice was as cold as ice, and he always spoke so calmly, like he felt nothing and couldn’t care less if he tried. Rarely did he yell and show any passion. I think even that would have been better than this cold, unfeeling nothingness he showed. “Apologise to her,” Jax said. “I was trying, but she’s so busy f.ucking crying she won’t listen, and I’m done with this childish s.hit,” Nick snarled and stormed from the room. “Come on, love, come to my room,” I whispered and led her towards the stairs. “Can I come?” Jax asked. “Sure,” I answered, and we went up together. Linda lay on my bed in the middle while me and Jax both cuddled up to her. “You alright, darling?” Jax asked her. She shrugged and nodded. “Don’t listen to that nasty p.rick, he’s a horrible f.ucker.” Jax stroked her hair from her face and kissed her softly on the lips. I kissed her along her neck softly, and it wasn’t long before Jax’s fingers were sliding up between her legs. I swear the only way Jax knew how to comfort someone was through s**x, but she didn’t seem to be complaining, so I joined in, running my hand under her top and cupping her b.reasts, squeezing and playing with them. She moaned softly. Pulling her top up, I leaned down and lightly circled my tongue over her n.ipples until they grew hard, then I sucked on them while Jax fingered her. When she was panting and moaning, Jax pulled his trousers down and got on top of her. He pushed himself inside of her, and she cried out in pleasure. I continued playing with her b.reasts until she came. She always came so easy, and I loved it, especially as she could come again and again for us. When Jax came in her a few minutes later, he climbed off, and I got on top of her. “Don’t mind us taking turns, do you?” I grinned. “No,” she giggled shyly. I kissed her softly on the lips and gently pushed myself inside of her. I moved back and forth slow and gentle, making love to her. “I love you,” I whispered, stroking her face and tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear. “I love you too,” she smiled. “I love you, darling,” Jax said, lying beside her and gently kissing her neck. “And I love you, Jax,” she smiled happily. I made love to her until we both climaxed. Jax and I cuddled her until she fell asleep. Jax fell asleep too, but I heard the front door downstairs open, and I climbed out of bed, quickly cleaning up and getting dressed. I went downstairs and saw Elena hanging her jacket up. “Elena, in my office, now.” Looking confused, she followed me in, leaving the door open. “Shut the door,” I said. She closed it and turned back to me. “What is it, Dad?” “Are you a bully?” “What? No,” she frowned. “So what makes you think it’s ok to be horrible to your own sister?” “I’m not,” she argued. “Really? So you didn’t yell at her to leave you alone and go away? Or let your boyfriend push her?” She went quiet and looked away, mumbling, “it wasn’t like that.” “Wasn’t it? So he didn’t push her?” “Not hard, he didn’t mean to make her fall.” “I don’t care if he intended it or not, he shouldn’t put his hands on her in the first place, and as her sister, you should have stuck up for her.” “I just wanted to hang out with my friends, I don’t always want to hang out with my brother or sisters.” “You could have still hung out with your friends, Elena, all she wanted to do was to stand with you and not be alone.” “She said that?” “No, Lucas told me.” “That little snitch!” “Good, you shouldn’t treat Anita like that, especially in front of your friends, you’re not only being a horrible sister, you’re also enabling your friends and making them think it’s ok to treat her like that too.” “Lucas punched Tom in the face. Is he going to get told off for that?” “Did he hit him with his werewolf strength?” “No.” “Then good on Lucas, I’m not telling him off for defending his sister.” “So violence is the answer?” She asked, putting her hand on her hip and raising an eyebrow as if she’d won. “We’re werewolves, Elena, violence is in our nature. I’m not some meek parent who’s going to tell you to stand there and let the bullies hit you or to walk away while they continue, so yeah, violence is the answer. If you’re boyfriend is going to push Anita, then f***k yeah, Lucas did the right thing punching him. One, she’s your sister, two, she’s female, and your boyfriend should know better than to hit or touch a girl, or at nineteen, almost twenty, a woman! I don’t want to hear that you’re still treating her like s.hit after this, do you understand?” “But she’s embarrassing,” she whined. “Elena! Don’t you ever f.ucking talk about her like that! Go to your room!” She rolled her eyes and stormed off up the stairs. S.hit, I raced up after her and slammed my hand against the bedroom door before she could shut it and held out my other hand. “Give it to me.” “What?” She asked, trying to sound innocent. “Your phone, hand it over.” “Ugh, you’re so unfair!” She shoved the phone in my hand, and I closed the door. Anita came out of her room and looked at the phone. “Why you have phone?” “Why do I have the phone, Anita.” “Why do you have Elena’s phone,” she said. We were working along with a speech therapist to help improve her speech. “Elena was talking back to me,” I said. I didn’t want to say it was about her, or she would get upset. She was at the age where she wanted to be like everyone else and be treated like an adult. She didn’t want us all being overprotective or treating her like a child anymore. I think Jax was struggling the most with it. Anita frowned at me, and I changed the subject. “What are you doing? Coming down for a snack?” She nodded, and I gave her a one-armed hug and said, “come on then,” and went down with her.
