Chapter 24

The air inside the airship was dank and fetid. Rows of small blue lights ran fore and aft down the length of the craft, so Judas and Evenor were able to see where they needed to go. But there were no crew on board. The engines were running by themselves, and the only sound they could hear was the wind rushing along the skin of the ship outside, and the wailing of the Ghost Children as they crackled with lightning. Evenor had regained all her strength and mobility quickly, and Judas had to move fast to keep up with her as she raced forwards. She leapt from gangway to gangway, vaulting over the machine turbines with ease. Judas took the long way around, but managed not to slip too far behind.
