Chapter 18

1020 Words
Yep - I beat Juliet and I would be lying if I said it didn't feel great! Just watching her walk off with her closest friends acting as nurse. I felt pride and hoped that she would think twice next time she got between Grey and I. Today I had a weird feeling inside me. I was excited about going to school. I didn't know if it was to see Grey or to see the way Juliet reacted to previous events but Shay was definitely on edge. I felt as though she needed to go for a run to stretch her legs before we went to school today. I quickly head into the backyard to phase into Shay's wolf form and give her some time. I closed my eyes and felt my joints pop and move to let my body phase into Shay. It doesn't take as long anymore - it would take at least five minutes when I first began to phase and it was painful. My body has gotten used to it now and it only takes a few seconds. My Mum says that I am quite fast as a female wolf. Shay shakes my fur and enjoys the freedom. Soon she sets off through the woods behind our house, sprinting between the trees. It is an amazing and surreal feeling watching someone else control your body but still be able to feel it. It is difficult to explain just how it feels. I sense Shays thrill as she jumps over fallen trees and darts around bushes. She stops at a small pond for a drink before sprinting back to the house. I could sense a few other wolves out for a morning run this morning but didn't run into any of them. Shay is very fast - I would be surprised if they could keep up with her! I am very proud of my wolf and her abilities - it's a weird affection and adoration for a part of me in a way. We arrive home and phase back into our human form. I left my school uniform on the floor by the back door, so I quickly changed and head inside for breakfast. I was running on perfect time. As I got my breakfast, Paul knocked aggressively on my bedroom door. "Wanna ride?" He yelled. "Ahh duh." I respond; of course I would want a ride. I hated the thought of getting on the bus with all ages of high school students. The grotty year 8's that thought they were top s**t got on my nerves. I hope I wasn't like some of them when I was their age. The ride to school was quiet, Paul played his old 80's rock music with the window down, never uttering a word to me. He was obviously in one of his moods today. I am pretty sure he will be sent home early for getting in a fight today - he usually does when he is in this mood. We had arrived at school a little late as most of the students had already gone inside for their first lesson. I grabbed my bag out of the boot and briskly made my way to my locker. "Hey you!" A voice chuckled. "Who me?" I turn around with a smile, meeting Grey. Our first lesson was Math. Which was always boring as Grey wasn't in my class. Grey reached out to grab my hand. "Follow me." He whispered. I nod and follow like a puppy behind him. He brings me around the side of the building. He scans the space around us to see if there is anyone watching. He turns back to me when he is convinced no one is in the area. He arm wraps around my lower back, pulling me in towards him. "I've been waiting to do this since I woke up this morning" he says with a breathtaking smile. I smile back as he pulls me in closer and his lips meet mine. Millions of tiny fireworks flood through my body. "Ummm..." A voice sighs from a few meters away. Grey suddenly pulls away as we both look over to the person. I am shocked to see Paul standing in front of me with a blank look on his face. He looked as though he had just seen a ghost. I could see his fists shaking as he tried to contain his wolf. I don't know if he was annoyed at me or if he was annoyed that it was Grey he had found me with. Either one, it wasn't looking good for either of us. "Paul... Hey man!" Grey says nervously. I could see the worry in Grey's eyes as he considers what may happen now that my brother knows about us. We patiently waited for Paul's fists to stop shaking (or reduce their shaking a considerable amount). I saw Paul take a deep breath to steady himself. He knew if he was to get into a fight with Grey now, people would ask why it began in the first place and that wasn't information he was willing to provide. "Mates?" Paul quietly questioned. I look back at him, looking for some expression on his face, but there was nothing. Blank. I nod back at him warily. He looks puzzled as he slowly creates distance between us by stepping backwards and proceeds to walk back into school and down the hallway. "s**t!" I hit my hand on my head in frustration, "Well I guess the secrets out now!" I stutter nervously. "It doesn't have to be..." Grey answers. "He might not tell." He continues trying to remain positive. He knows this would only be bad for both of us. I nod back, trying to make Grey feel better, but if there is one thing I know about my brother, it is that he can't keep secrets to save his life. I was screwed. For some reason, there was a part of me that was glad he knew. But the other 98% of my feelings were stressed out about what could possibly happen now.
