My mind and body were reeling from the self-defense class as I walked to the bus stop after school. I was struggling to remember not to let myself get too attached. The mate bond was strong. Even trying to avoid each other, we keep getting pushed back together.
I am in my own little world, feeling on cloud nine, as I walk around the back of the gym. Aria had to go and talk to her English teacher after school, so we decided to meet at the bus afterwards.
Suddenly, someone grabs me by the arm and pulls me behind the sports shed. I know exactly who it is because my arm is instantly covered with tiny electric fireworks alighting every part of me. I can't help the excitement build inside of me at being up close with him again.
"You know, I know self-defense." I tease when my eyes meet Grey's green ones. He laughs in response.
"I thought you could use the practice!" Grey shrugs. "And... I'm finding it impossible to stay away from you." He continues, suddenly serious. I look down at my feet nervously. I know that this is forbidden. If my parents found out, I would be punished for eternity, but I just couldn't walk away.
"I know." I sigh admitting the truth.
"Surely we can work something out!" Grey groans as he runs his hand through his hair in frustration. His hair was sticking up from the action so I reach my hand up to smooth it back down. Grey's eyes turn black. I let my hand linger in his hair for an extra few seconds, making the most of being so close to him. I was in such turmoil. I desperately wanted to be with him but also didn't want to let my family and pack down.
Grey places his hands on my hips and pulls me closer. Our lips are only millimeters apart. I hold my breath in anticipation of what he was going to do next.
"Please." He begs and I know he is asking me to give him a go. I just don't know if I can.
"I don't know." I whisper in reply. He leans forward and lightly places his lips on mine. My whole body lights up from the action. It was like my body was electric and hot and wild all at the same time. I lost all will and control.
Grey deepened the kiss, sliding his hands around to the small of my back and pulling me even closer. I could feel his whole body pressed up against mine. I followed his lead, wrapping my arms around his neck.
Both of us were desperately trying to hold our wolves back but also didn't want to.
Grey stopped and rested his forehead on mine. We both stood in that position trying to catch our breath and some control.
"Just give it some thought, okay?" Grey pleads after a few minutes. His eyes were full of hope and desperation.
"Ok." I promise before picking up my bag I had dropped on the floor and walking towards the bus stop again.
My mind was spinning. How can anything that amazing be a bad thing?
I was quiet on the bus. Aria rattled on about how she had to be partnered with Jordan and his mate, Kira, was glaring at her the whole time.
"It wasn't my fault there were no other boys left to choose!" Aria groaned in annoyance. I doubt she even noticed I had stopped replying.
I had zoned her out.
"Grey was looking mighty fine in this singlet and shorts today, don't you agree?" She asked me. My ears pricked when I heard the mention of Grey's name.
"Huh?" I asked. She sensed my sudden interest. She knew something was up.
"You guys looked pretty close during your demonstration..." She stated, "Particularly close for the children of two rival Alpha's." She added. She was on to me.
"Really?" I try to act coy. She doesn't buy it.
"You've got a crush on Goliath golden boy, don't you?!" She whisper-yells so that only we can hear her. She knows if this information was heard by other Red Wood Pack students we would be crucified.
I glace around the bus to make sure no one is evesdropping.
"No..." I reply rather half-heartedly. Aria knowing I have a crush isn't the same as knowing we were mates? Surely this is a loophole?
"Willow. You are a terrible liar." Aria says bluntly.
"Maybe." I whisper, looking down at my hands nervously.
"I think he likes you too." She adds, skooching closer to me on the seat. If only she knew.
"Doesn't matter though." I sigh.
"Could still be fun?" Aria asks, trying to be positive. She knows how rare it is for me to take interest in any guys. I smile meekly at her.
"There is a school party being held at one of the humans houses this weekend. All of our year level has been invited. Red Woods and Goliath pack members. Clearly, humans don't realize we don't talk. But I am pretty sure everyone is still coming. We could go?" Aria suggests. Secretly, I'm pretty sure she just wanted me to come to the party with her - this just gave me more of a reason to go.
"Yea, sounds good." I reply, not minding the excuse to get out of the house and away from Mum and Dad for a night. I could even stay at Aria's that night.
