Chapter 5 - Her Cheeks Tells The Story

1092 Words
Juliet’s P.O.V. “Morning, Juliet. You’re just in time for breakfast,” Marie told me while I took a seat at the table across from Jack. My stomach rumbling at the delicious aroma of food. Smiling, I nodded as I asked what’s for breakfast. I gazed at the plate that appears before me as she articulated, “Campbell eggs and pigs in a blanket,” I watch the pig in blankets in disguise. I hate pigs, but the eggs look good. I picked up the fork and dig into the eggs. Yum, I thought, continuing to eat out the rest of my meal. Obviously not the pig, though. Half-way through my breakfast, Marie asked, “So how was your first day of school yesterday? Sorry I wasn’t here last night, had to work because they were short on servers.” Oh yes, now I recall. My grandmother was a waitress at a little diner. It was also the place where she met my grandpa for the first time while working. I also remember the story vividly, as if I was here, how many times I heard, she told the tale. But now it’s only her and her children since my grandfather was at war currently. “It was good,” I stated, smiling, both of my eyes slightly crinkle. She took a seat at the head of the table with her plate, which had the same food like mine. After finishing chewing her second bite, she asked, “So did you find your Romeo yet?” to which caught me off guard as I choke on some egg as a brief image of him flashed in mind while Jack and Marie snickered at my predicament. “No,” I muttered, trying to avoid thinking about him, but failed miserably as he somehow remains in my mind. The way he smiles stirs something within me and for some unknown reason, I like it, especially when he smiles at me. I have never had these feelings about a boy before, just less one I met a couple of days ago. Back in my timeline, boys would always ignore me or just befriend me to ask my friends out. Most times I felt the third wheel when someone flirts with them. But he, he paid attention to me; he got to know me a little and even walked me home yesterday, which no one has ever done. But then again, it’s not me. I’m in someone else’s body. Before leaving me, he pecks me on the cheek, which causes butterflies to erupt in my tummy. I couldn’t shake the giddy feeling inside of me, of going to school and seeing him. I had crushed all the time, but he made it feels like a completely new level. And again I couldn’t get the tingling feeling on his soft lips when it touched my cheek. Why did he kiss me, though? Is it something normal for guys in this timeline to do? I snapped out of my thoughts to find Marie smiling at me. Stupidly, I mumbled, “huh,” “Are you blushing?” Her smile turning into a smirk. “What? No,” I lied, but I know my cheeks were on fire because I could feel it. I blame him for making me blush. Marie opens her mouth to say something but before she even got the chance, I cut her off claiming, “We’re late for school,” to which thankfully Jack checks the time before shoving the rest of his food in his mouth. He sighed as he finishes his coffee in one drink, mumbling, “I am so late for practice. Coach is going to have my head for it,” while Marie chuckled at him, shaking her head. “Bye mom,” he said, exiting the kitchen. I grab my bag, bidding her goodbye as well following him. “Need a drop, Faith?” Jack asked, raising the keys in his hands, jingling it. “No, mom is taking me,” she stated as we all parted ways. *** “Lock my baby for me, Juliet,” Jack said and hurled the keys at me. I held out my hands by reflex, catching the keys, which is weird for me because I can’t catch anything. In this timeline, maybe I am lucky? I can’t imagine, though, that I’m carrying keys to uncle Jack’s Chevy Impala. Back in my day, no one could touch it, not even the keys. He always claims this model is way cooler than the newer model. And how it makes him feels like his younger self. I smile to myself as I recall how happy he always looks when he talks about his car or baby as he likes to call it. It is still a surprise to me that this same very car is this running and working well. “Hey, did you just get here,” said Pat, wrapping her arms around my shoulder. I grinned and nodded as we moved towards the rest of the g**g, who was standing at the left side of the school doors chatting away. Unconsciously, my eyes were looking for someone and again, when my eyes were connected with his, I could feel the blush searing through my cheek. I turned my side to the side instinctively, though, to avert his attention, but that didn’t stop the sudden rosiness of my cheeks from giving me away. “Hey foxy,” Josh said as Pat giggles, rushing to him with arms open as if she hasn’t seen him in a long time. Michael pretended to gag, which got him slapped in the back of the head causing him to jerk forwards. Standing up straight, he glares at josh. But Josh ignores him as he hugs his girlfriend, which also causes Michael to be more tick off. “Hi,” Preston whispered near me, drawing my attention away from the scene in front of me. I turn around to look at him, noticing how close we are, I gulp as my cheek turns red once more. I smiled and backed away nervously. “Hi,” “Yo, the bell rung. Let’s go,” David said, gathering the attention of all as he drags his brother by his side, who struggles to be free.
