Chapter 4
Annie
“Ethan!” she yelled through the house.
When she had gotten back from her delivery, and encounter with Dru, Ethan hadn’t been waiting for her at the door like he usually was. He knew how long she had to do her deliveries and return, and he always greeted her at the door.
“Have you seen Ethan?” she asked Barbara, one of the other captives.
“No, not for a while,” the woman responded, unalarmed at the missing child.
“Ugh!” Annie growled.
She continued to search the house with no luck. The main phone in the house rang. Annie raced to it, her nerves on edge. She was petrified of what she was about to hear on the other end of the phone.
“Annie,” the dark voice said.
The sound of his voice gave her chills.
“Where is my son?”
“Where did you go, Annie?”
“I went to look for Tayler. Now, where is my son?”
“You know how this works. I am in charge. I will ask the questions, and I will give you answers if and when I see fit.”
“If you harm a hair on his head...”
“You’ll do what? There’s nothing you can do. There’s nothing anyone can do. Now, where is our friend Tayler?”
“I don’t know. I didn’t find her, the time limit you keep us on doesn’t leave a lot of room for hunting down missing people,” Annie snapped.
“I guess it’s time I change a few things then. Besides, I have your son, so the odds of you trying anything stupid are none.”
“Let me talk to him. How do I even know he’s alive?”
“I guess you’ll have to take me at my word. Find Tayler, and kill her.”
“What?”
“Only then will you get to see your son again.”
“I can’t… I’ve never...”
“Uh. Uh. Uh. I don’t care. You are free to do as you please as long as you find her and kill her. If I think for one second you’re doing anything other than that, I’ll kill him while you watch.”
“No!” Annie screamed into the phone, but the sound of the dial tone was already echoing in her ear.
Annie slammed the phone down on the receiver again and again until she collapsed into a fit of sobs. No one else in the house made a move to comfort her. They had all known Ethan had been taken. None of the bastards had bothered to try and stop the evil man from taking her innocent baby. Annie curled up in a ball and let herself over to the grief for a while. The terms had been set, and no matter how much she didn’t agree she’d have to see them through.
