Chapter 5 Dru They could hear Ava yell as she worked through her labor. Dru fought the darkness off while he waited. He didn’t want it to consume him while he was in the house full of the people he cared about the most. No one would ever dream to go as far as to call Dru an affectionate man, but he did love his pack members, all of them. His biggest fear was that he would harm someone before Terrell could kill him. He just wanted his pack to be safe. That was all he could hope for now that his time was up. A tear slipped down his face. He had so many hopes and dreams for him and Annie. The beautiful life they would have together alongside his pack. The children running rampant while they watched over them. What he wouldn’t give to touch Annie’s face just one more time. To kiss her soft lips and feel her body mold to his. She had been fire the night they had joined together, and he had been the gasoline. Every single touch had brought forth a new moan or cry from her swollen lips. Her body had known that it had been made for him and him alone as he had torn through her virginity. Anger and betrayal ripped through his chest, and he let out a heart wrenching growl. The darkness tore through him at warp speed knowing that his guard was down. Jake jumped up from where he had been sitting and he rushed over to Dru. Dru shooed him away. “Dru, stay with us. Fight!” Jake yelled at him. Dru locked eyes with his pack mate and he saw the fear and the strong need for hope in the young pack members eyes. That fueled Dru’s desire to fight for a while longer. He pushed down the darkness, leaning on Jake’s strength in order to do so. Dru was growing weak. The fight was leaving his bear. “I can’t do this much longer!” Dru yelled. “Yes, you can!” Jake said vehemently. “You cannot let me leave this room. Do you understand?” “It won’t come to that,” Jake snarled, turning his back to Dru. “Don’t turn your back on me, kid. I’m not of sound mind. My bear will see you as prey. There again I repeat. Do not let me leave this room. If it comes down to it, you must kill me.” “God damnit, Dru.” “I didn’t want it to be this way either,” Dru said, leaning against the pole. “If you know who she is, why are you not out there finding her?” Jake yelled at him. “You think I haven’t? You think I’ve spent one spare moment of my time not searching for her!” Dru yelled back at him. “Then where is she!” “She found another.” “No,” Jake scoffed. “She did.” “How do you know this? It can’t be true.” “She told me so herself. I finally caught up to her last night. The woman in jail, somehow, she’s connected to my, um, to Annie. I found her at the park. She was searching for the woman we have in custody.” “And she told you that she’s with another man? This can’t be so.” “For a moment, I thought my darkness was finally defeated, and then she drove away, taking away all the light that was left inside of me.”
