Midas sat behind his desk, staring blankly through the massive office windows while autumn slowly changed the mountains surrounding Moon Lake Pack. Once upon a time, this had been his favorite season. As children, he and his brothers used to race through the woods beneath falling leaves until Luna Dalia called for them to return to the packhouse for dinner. She loves the lake at this time of year. The thought came so naturally now it barely felt like his own anymore. Everything always led back to Evelynn. Now the changing seasons only reminded him how empty the pack had become. Moon Lake no longer felt alive. The packhouse had turned into something hollow. An empty shell pretending it still had a heartbeat. The pack was rotting from the inside out, and Midas was too exhausted to stop
