CHAPTER TWELVE: Strange Feelings

NEW YORK CITY, BLAKES RESIDENCE.

Two weeks had gone by, Jayden hadn't returned. Even with his constant calling, katherine wasn't satisfied, she needed help with the company but she refused to admit it to herself or to Jayden.

Elisa got Katherine dressed for work, she walked out in a blue suit and black heels, Rosa was already waiting for her by the car;

"Good morning ma'am."

"Morning Rosa, any important meeting?"

"The board of directors called for a meeting ma'am, it begins in one hour." Rosa said, looking at her boss's face to see her reaction.

Katherine sighed, it was as if she knew why they called for a meeting. They both got into the car and were on their way to the office, she thought about what Jayden would do, she didn't want to reveal her marriage to jayden but the directors were already questioning her ability to be CEO.

They arrived at the company and went straight to the conference room;

"You kept us waiting, didn't your assistant tell you this meeting was for 8am?" a man in his early forties said angrily.

"You will not speak to me in such tone! i'm still the CEO and i can get you thrown out of this building." Katherine flared, she wasn't feeling too good lately, neither was she in a good mood this morning. The man refrained from speaking further, her voice carried so much authority that shook everyone in the room;

"Now we can start the bloody meeting, i have work to do."

"Well...th..the b..board of..."

"Mr Daven, i do not have all day." Katherine said as she rubbed her temples.

"The board of directors, think someone else should be CEO, they see you unfit to lead....considering your reputation." the man who spoke when she entered into the room, Mr Smith said.

"What reputation?"

"They're several videos of you in the hospital as a result of drug abuse, we were all sent a document of your records in rehab...."

Katherine stood up abruptly, they all averted her gaze except Mr Smith because he kept talking;

"We can't allow the CEO position to be occupied by....by a drug addict."

"And who the hell are you calling a drug addict?" A male voice came from the door, everyone turned to see Jayden standing there with one hand in his pocket and the other holding an envelope. He was wearing a black suit with white shirt, he looked so handsome.

"I asked a question Mr Smith." he asked again as he walked over to stand beside katherine who was still looking at him in amazement.

"I...I was talking about....."

"The fake records of your CEO in rehab or videos of her in the hospital receiving her regular medical check ups? Do you know you can get arrested for defamation?" Jayden walked towards Mr Smith, he dropped the envelope in front of him.

"Open it."

"What is it?" Mr Smith opened the envelope and brought out the documents, they were records of monthly medical check ups of katherine. He passed the documents round to the board, when it got to katherine who was still standing, she looked at it and at him.

She looked at the men who felt too embarrassed to say a word or look at her, she walked out of the room and went straight to her office.

"The next time any of you make such accusations about your CEO, you'll be out on your asses." Jayden said before walking out, the rest followed except three.

"Damn! how did this turn around to bite us in the ass?" Mr Smith said

"I told you this wouldn't work with that bastard backing her up." Mr Daven said

"He was supposed to be out of the country right?" Another asked, Mr Lucas.

"Yes, i inquired from his secretary Natalie."

"We must find a way to get her out of that position."

"Yes, we must." the other two responded.

In Katherine's office, she was pacing when Jayden entered and Rosa excused herself. Katherine immediately hugged him, she was trembling, sweating and panting;

"Hey, are you okay?" Jayden asked as he stroked her back. She shook her head and hugged him tighter, he knew she was having the panic attack again and she was struggling. After forty-five seconds, she stopped trembling and released him, he took her to the sofa and went ahead to get her a glass of water.

"Thank you....how...how did you get the documents?" she asked

"Your mom had them, i went to her immediately i got into the country." Jayden said

"How did they get...how did you..." she was beginning to breathe fast again.

He drew her close and patted her head, "I'm already handling it, just relax okay. Rosa!"

"Yes sir." she came in

"Tell Mateo to get the car ready, take her home....i'll handle everything here."

"No, no, i don't...."

"Go home, take a cold shower and a nap okay, i'll be home soon."

Katherine didn't go home though, she decided to visit her therapist, Greta. katherine rang the door bell and Greta answered;

"Katherine, you don't have a session with me, what are you doing here?"

"Are you free, i really need to talk to you."

Greta looked at her with concern, she discovered that something had changed in katherine;

"Come in, but i hope you ain't coming for pills. I promise your mom i wouldn't give you any."

"I don't need them, just sit." katherine sat down while greta took the one opposite her.

"What's going on with you kat, you've never needed follow up sessions."

"I...i think, i don't know where to start."

Greta was shocked, katherine had never lacked words or stuttered before. It seemed she always knew what to say, but now she was struggling to spit out whatever she wanted to say.

"Begin when you're ready." Greta said

"I've been looking for my pills for about a month now, last week i found out who took it. I was mad at first but it didn't bother me anymore afterwards, i haven't felt the need of using them since then.... " she paused, then stood up and began to pace slowly.

"But today i was about to lose my position as CEO and it scared me to death, Jayden came to my rescue and as soon as i saw him....i felt this calmness in my spirit. Even when my panic attack started, i didn't think about the pills, all i wanted to do was hug him....." katherine sat back down and faced Greta whose mouth was agape.

"And when he held me, i didn't feel the urge to snap his neck but longed for time to stand still, i wanted to stay that way forever."

"Oh my God." Greta whispered

"What is it?"

"Who is this Jayden?"

"Um...he's the man mother forced me to marry, so he's....my husband." Katherine slumped back on the couch.

"I think you're falling for this husband of yours." Greta said

Katherine frowned, she looked at Greta like she didn't understand what she just said and before she would open her mouth to say it again, katherine picked her bag and hurried out of Greta's office.

"Katherine!" Greta called but she was gone.

Katherine did not go home, rather she went over to have lunch with her mother. She thought about what Greta said;

"(scoffs)...i don't think i'm falling for him. I'm not falling for him, no. That's ridiculous." she thought to herself.

She arrived, got into the house and saw her mother already at the table;

"Hello Mom."

"Welcome my dear, how are you doing today?"

"i'm fine mom." Katherine replied but her face says otherwise and Melissa noticed.

"No you're not, something bothers you. What is it honey?" Melissa asked.

Katherine sighed and decided to tell her mother everything. And when she was done, her mom said;

"Oh Kathy, you're falling for him. And i think you should let him know how you feel before someone else have their hands on him."

"What are you talking about mom? I'm not falling for him. Hell, i don't know how i feel about him but it's definitely not love."

"Keep telling yourself that. But you should know your secretary Tricia has eyes for him, and i bet she's not the only one my child."

"Huh?" katherine remembered the name 'reya', she felt really uncomfortable knowing she wasn't the only interested in Jayden. She sighed, 'What am i thinking, she probably already has him. He went to see her, didn't he?'

"He married you katherine, you should be the only woman he sees." Melissa added when she saw the hesitation in her daughter.

After lunch katherine decided to head back to the office instead of going home as he instructed. She didn't want to sit home thinking about what could be going on in her company, Jayden was not the boss, she was.

Walking to her office after she got out of her private elevator, she passed by the break room and her three ladies in a conversation;

" Ain't you scared of losing your job, talking about the COO in that manner?" one of them asked.

"Come on stell, there's nothing wrong with admiring such a handsome man. I just wish i could hold him and kiss his cute soft lips, i see him in my dreams every night."

"Mira! what if he's married?" the other said

"Then i'll gladly be his mistress."

Katherine couldn't hear anymore, she stormed into the break room;

"Three of you, to my office now!"

They were both shocked to see her, the expression on her face made ot clear she heard their conversation, they began to sweat bullets.

Katherine got to her office and asked Tricia to clear up her desk;

"You're fired." she said and walked straight into her office without listening to her plea.

The trio arrived at her office to see her not sitted but standing and staring daggers at them;

"I can see you all hate your jobs so bad."

"No ma'am, we're sorry please forgive us." They said.

"You're all fired, pick your things and get out of my company!" Katherine yelled.

Rosa didn't know what made her boss upset but she decided to let Jayden know what was going on, she sent a text to him and in no time he walked into the office. He saw tricia crying and clearing up her desk, then the three ladies that just left her office;

"I told you to go home katherine, what are you doing?"

"I don't need you to tell me how to run my company, you work for me remember?" she said

"No one will want to work for you if you continue like this?"

"Did you know any of these ladies had a thing for you? Are you aware of their s****l attraction to you?" She asked.

Jayden now understood why she was acting this way, she must have heard about tricia's visit to his office. He sighed and walked towards her;

"Don't come any closer!" She stepped back.

"Are you jealous?"

"Wha...what are you talking about?"

"You're jealous." Jayden took another step.

"You must be out of your mind. I'm not jea...., what? no i'm not jealous."

Jayden stopped, "Then a warning would do, firing them isn't necessary, since i'll be leaving the company soon." He looked at her angry face. "You threw my resignation letter in the trash, i'll have another ready by tomorrow morning." He turned to leave.

"You....fucking arrogant son of a b***h! You don't tell me how to run my company, i say who stays and goes....."

Katherine walked to stand in front of him, "You enjoy their attention, don't you? Reya isn't enough, you want more mistresses? You f*****g cas...." she couldn't finish because Jayden kissed her, he kissed her so passionately.

Jayden never knew she misunderstood who reya was and he left her feeling this way all this while, he was right, she was jealous. But why?
