CHAPTER TEN: New Beginnings

It's been two months since the outburst of Katherine and Melissa, though katherine still hadn't seen her mother, Jayden still cared for her no matter how many times she's made it clear she didn't want it. He gave her the master's bedroom and slept in the next room every night, no matter how hard she tried to hate him, neglect him or ignore him, it was fruitless because he was always in her face both in the office and at home. So she stopped fighting him and became friends with him instead;

"I'm leaving the company Katherine." Jayden said, while they were sitting by the pool eating grapes as they chatted about business.

She scoffed, "No you're not." She said

"Yes i am."

Katherine sat up, she was in a swimsuit and Jayden found her body most enticing, but he needed her approval to come close or touch her....

"When did you make this decision?" Katherine's voice rose, he had come to notice she was a bit short tempered.

"After we got married." Jayden replied, he studied her face.

"Then why didn't you leave then?"

"Because i was still handling the fraud case with Mr Arthur......" Jayden paused.

Katherine was pissed but she tried to control it, "I noticed you haven't cashed your cheque. We still have ten months before the contract is over, you're not getting the remaining ten million dollars until this whole facade is over."

Jayden chuckled, 'if only you know why i agreed to this arrangement, i'm not letting you go after a year sweet pea.' He thought to himself

"What's funny?" Katherine asked

"Nothing sweet pea, absolutely nothing."

Katherine had become used to the name 'sweet pea' so it didn't bother her anymore. Jayden stood up as he took off his shirt and dove into the pool. Katherine watched as he swam back and forth, and anytime she saw the water running down those abs, she felt extremely hot inside.

"It's really hot, won't you jump in?" Jayden asked

Katherine's heart skipped a bit because she thought he knew what was happening to her insides but when she discovered he was referring to the sun, she relaxed...

"Um...i don't think....."

"Come on Katherine, i won't bite. Besides, the water is cool enough to soothe your nerves." Jayden smiled at her, she sighed.

"Fine." She took off the big floppy straw hat, the scarf she tied around her waist and got in.

Jayden was right, the water was cool and it did soothe her nerves, her anger vanished in an instant.

"Hmmm, this is nice." she said as she closed her eyes and allowed the water carry her. When she opened them, Jayden was staring at her;

"What?"

"You're so beautiful."

Katherine was speechless, that statement made her heart flutter and her tummy clutched, no one had actually told her that. Well that was because she had scared all the interested men away and the few she had never gave compliments or made it to third base with her;

"Shut up." She said and splashed water at him, he splashed back and she gasped.

"You...." they continued and laughed until Jayden grabbed her by the waist.

Their heart were pounding so fast, their breaths quickened, their faces were just inches apart, Jayden tucked a hair behind her ear and just when he was about to kiss those red soft lips, his cellphone rang. Katherine jerked away from him while Jayden cursed as he got out to see who interrupted his moments,

"Who the f**k is this?!" Jayden clenched his fist.

"Hola hermano! I've missed you." The lady said, Jayden turned to look at Katherine who was getting out of the pool, he walked away from the poolside into the house.

"Reya." he said

Katherine heard the name 'reya' and felt disappointed, she slammed her palm on her forehead; "Silly me, where you just about to let him kiss you kat?" she muttered, grabbing the towel and wrapping it around her as she hurried into the house.

"It's good to know you still remember my name, it's been four years brother. You abandoned your little sister." the voice on the receiver end said.

"Well, from what i heard, you're not so little anymore." Jayden entered the study and locked it.

"What you heard? You've been keeping tabs on me?"

"Of course, i knew you wouldn't give up looking for me. I had to know when you're were getting close." Jayden replied

Mireya chuckled, "I'm still no match for you when it comes to these games huh. Come home brother, i need you by my side."

"No one is playing games with you reya. And i told you before, you don't need me."

"At least, tell me where you are. I've missed my brother, i want to see you."

"Don't flatter yourself reya, you already know where i am. You better stay away, don't come over here, I'll come see you instead."

"Then I'll be expecting you, Adiós!" Mireya hung up.

Jayden knew his sister too well and if he does not go see her, she would definitely come to New York to find him.

"Great timing Reya.... f**k!" Jayden finger combed his black hair.

He left the study, went to the poolside but didn't find katherine, he went to their bedroom and there she was, drying her hair.

"Hey." He said

"Hey." She responded but coldly.

"Is something wrong?" Jayden asked

"No." Katherine replied, still sounding cold.

"Well, I'll be going on a trip in two days and i thought...."

"It's fine, you can go." She dropped the towel and was about to walk pass him, he held her arm.

"Let me go!" Katherine yelled

"You're upset, is it about what happened at the pool? I'm sorry if...."

"I don't know what you're talking about, nothing happened at the pool, Now let me go!" Katherine yanked her hand free and went downstairs to have lunch.

Jayden came to join her, she ignored him all through lunch and dinner, they didn't say much to each other for the next two days either until Jayden was ready to go to the airport;

"Katherine, i think you should go see your mom. It's....."

"I didn't ask for your opinion Jayden, you can go now because i would hate for you to miss your flight." Katherine said and walked away.

Jayden smiled, he got into his car and drove to the airport, he thought about katherine all the way, he had fallen deep for her and he was scared he would lose her even before he gets a chance to show her.

"Ma'am, you have a meeting with the contractors by 10am?" Rosa said on their way to the office.

"Okay, move every other meeting to 2pm. I need to go see Mrs Davis." Katherine said

"Yes ma'am."

Katherine got into her office to see Jayden's resignation letter on her desk, her anger returned and when she remembered what happened two days ago, her anger increased. She grabbed the letter and threw it into the trash;

"f*****g asshole, he thinks he can do that to me and get away with it? he thinks he can do whatever he wants. " Katherine said to herself.

She didn't know what pissed her more, the fact that Jayden tried to kiss her or the fact that she was expecting it to happen and he left her hanging. 'But it's not as if i like him that much or feel anything towards him. why do i feel this angry?' she thought.

"Rosa!" Katherine called

"Yes ma'am." Rosa answered as she hurried into the office.

"Tell the contractors i want to see them now."

"But ma'am th....." Rosa began but swallowed the rest when Katherine gave her a killer look. "Yes ma'am." Rosa nodded.

Katherine needed something to distract her because her mind was going crazy right now, she couldn't think straight or do anything at that. Even during the meeting, she kept thinking about him and what he could be doing, who he was with and what they could be doing.

Few minutes later, she headed out to her meeting and after that she proceeded to her mother's mansion, she couldn't prolong this rift between them any longer.

She arrived at her parents mansion,

"Miss da...um sorry, Mrs Blakes, Good to see you again." Gina the house keeper hugged her.

Gina wasn't just a house keeper, she was also Katherine's nanny, she was very fond of her.

"Please, just call me Katherine." katherine felt weird being called 'Mrs Blakes' , "how is she?" Katherine asked

"Not so well, she remains indoors, doesn't receive visitors and eats so little. She's been like this for about three weeks now." Gina responded.

"Please tell her i'm here to see her."

"Sure, please sit."

Gina hurried upstairs to get Mrs Davis, as expected Melissa was happy to know Katherine came to see her, she came downstairs to see her daughter. Katherine stood up to look at her mother, she had become so thin and looked like she hadn't gotten much sleep in those few weeks;

"Oh mom." Katherine hugged her mother as she sobbed, she hated herself for staying away all those years and also not coming to see her sooner.

"I'm...I'm so sorry mom, i didn't know you went through all that just to stay with me, i didn't know...."

"Shhh, it's okay baby." Melissa stroke her daughter's back, "You're here now."

katherine released her, "come, come sit." Melissa took her to the couch.

"How are you my child." She asked

"I'm fine mom." Katherine replied

"You don't know how long I've waited for you to call me 'mom' again." Tears dropped from Melissa's eyes and it broke Katherine's heart.

"I'm sorry it took me so long to forgive you, i'm so sorry mother. I'm sorry i blamed you for everything, i didn't know why you endured so much from dad." Katherine said and hugged her mother again.

Melissa hugged her back because this was what she has yearned for all this time, her daughter in her arms, "It's okay my child, it's not your fault. I should be apologizing for putting you through such traumatic experience, you were too young to experience such brutality."

"It's not your fault either mother."

"Now i've married you off just the same way my parents did. I shouldn't have do....."

"It's okay mom, I'm fine. Jayden has been good to me, he....." Katherine paused, she just realized she was already defending him.

"He what?" Melissa asked

"It's nothing mom." katherine flushed.

Melissa smiled, "Are you falling for him honey."

"No, no i'm not." She denied

"He's a good man katherine, he really cares about you, i can see it in his eyes whenever he looks at you. You should get to know him and get him a chance....."

"Mom, i didn't come to talk about him. Let's talk about us." Katherine said, melissa smiled and agreed to change the subject.

After they talk and bonded again, katherine returned to the office to finish up with her meetings and her work for the day. When she was done, she headed home;

"Welcome home ma'am." her handmaid greeted, "what would you like to have for dinner?" she asked

"Anything Elisa, anything is fine." she replied

Katherine freshened up and went downstairs to have dinner, she sat down and was served her meal, she looked at the other end and it was empty.

Jayden wasn't here to annoy the hell out of her, she should be relieved but yet she was bothered, she couldn't even eat much.

She retired to bed after a glass of warm milk and finally thought she could get some sleep;

"What the hell? shouldn't he have called to tell me he arrived, what kind of a husband is he?" katherine ranted, she didn't know she had referred him as 'her husband'.

She picked up her cellphone to call but changed her mind, dropped her cellphone and decided to sleep.
