CHAPTER FIVE: The Contract

Katherine was dumbfounded, she didn't realize that even with the way her father treated her mother, that he could give her such power.

"Any other thing miss?"

"Does she have access to my account?"

"Not really ma'am, but she could demand a restriction on it."

"What?!" katherine hissed in pain.

"Are you okay miss?" Liam asked concerned.

"I am not okay, i need enough money to leave this country, enough to start a new life elsewhere. You just killed my hopes...."

"Actually, Mrs Davis was already ahead of you." Liam said

"We spoke few minutes before you called."

katherine knew she would but didn't know she already did, that woman was fast, now there was only one more card to play.

Jayden returned to the hospital on the demand that the CEO requested his presence. He knew why she wanted to see him because Mrs Davis had told him he would marry her, which he felt was ridiculous.

Even though he had not given Mrs Davis his response, he felt sorry for her because she was fighting to keep her daughter above the waters. He knew exactly how she felt but an impromptu marriage didn't sit well with him. He entered her room;

"Good day miss davis."

"Call me katherine."

Jayden was surprised, wasn't she the one that wanted him to address her properly at the office the other day? This was strange.

"You asked to see me?"

"Yes, sit."

He sat down and she continued, "i will take the bull by the horn because i know you have important things to do." she cleared her throat, "My mo...Mrs Davis asked you to marry me but i know you don't want to, i don't want to either so i called you here to plead with you to decline her proposal."

Jayden didn't say a word, he just stared at her with his face void of any expression. She c****d her head to the side and asked;

"Did you hear anything i just said?"

"Who said i didn't want to marry you?"

katherine was taken aback by his question. "Because you can't, we don't like each other, or know each other that well....or..or you might have a girlfriend and.....i..i have boyfriend, yes, i have a very cute boyfriend."

Jayden took a breath and crossed his legs as he exhaled.

"Too bad for him, because i already accepted the offer."

Katherine's eyes almost popped out, "You what? How could yo....." katherine closed her eyes and relaxed.

"I'll pay you, just say no. I'll pay you ten million dollars."

"What makes you think if i say no, she won't find someone else to marry you?"

"I said yes, i don't want you to belong to someone else.... just me." Jayden said and smiled.

"I have business to attend to.... ma'am. I'll be leaving now." Jayden left, he called Mrs Davis to accepted the proposal. katherine was in shock, she didn't understand what just happened right now, it was after a while before she blinked, there was nothing she could do now.

Back at the office, Jayden went straight to I.T department, he figured out the people responsible for the losses in the company but he needed to know exactly how much is missing. On his way there, he heard whispers or gossip instead about katherine and her condition, this was what Mrs Davis was trying to avoid when she came up with the proposal of him marrying her.

But how did the news get out? There were only three people that knew, if the board knew her condition, they would see her unfit to be CEO;

"If you don't have jobs to do, maybe i should give you one." He said to the trio standing by the break room.

They hurried off to their offices, one of the staff continued after she was sure he'd left,

"That man is strange, ever since he got here, he's been giving off this aura i can't really place my fingers on."

"I heard he's the one who took the CEO to the hospital." Another young lady said

"He's so cute and very attractive." A younger one said

"Mira!!" The other two ladies called.

"What?! He is though."

"Let's get back to work before we get our asses fired."

Long after the close of work, katherine who slept after the nurse administered her medication, just woke up from sleep when Jayden came in,

"What are you doing here?" She frowned

"Checking on you before heading home..... And to tell you that i know where the missing money went and those behind it." Jayden said

Katherine struggled to sit up, Jayden tried to help her but she declined, with so much pain she finally did it. "Who are they?" She asked

"The COO, CFO and Mr James Arthur." Jayden sat down on the sofa.

"James Arthur is one of our biggest shareholders, you better have proof." Katherine said.

Jayden handed her a file and after she looked through it for ten seconds, she closed the file.

"Sue them, get those assholes out of my company by tomorrow morning." She ordered

"I can't."

"And why is that?"

"You fired me because i suggested therapy for you, remember?"

"Well, now I'm hiring you back, this time as the new COO. Contact our lawyers and recover the money." Katherine clenched her teeth.

"One more thing."

"What?!" Katherine yelled and held her tummy almost immediately, Jayden shook his head.

"You need to fire nova." He said

"And why is that? I need a P.A silly."

"She isn't loyal, your condition is all over the company and it's just us that knew. Who else who have licked such information?" Jayden raised an eyebrow.

"Am certain it was you and you want to pin it on nova." Katherine growled at him.

Jayden made a soft chuckle, "That would be contrary to the agreement i made with your mother. And believe it or not, i am.... a man of my word." Jayden said .
