Chapter Twenty

The pack house buzzed with a strange, electric energy the next morning. Wolves moved quickly through the halls, whispering, preparing, adjusting patrol routes. Even the air felt charged, as if the land itself knew something monumental was about to happen. My mother — Luna Rose — was on her way. The thought alone made my stomach twist. I stood at the window of my room, staring out at the mountains, trying to steady my breathing. Selena paced inside me, restless, anxious, hopeful. She’s coming, she whispered. She’s really coming. I pressed a hand to my chest. “I know.” A soft knock sounded at the door. “Come in,” I said quietly. Jayden stepped inside, his expression gentle. “Baby girl.” I turned toward him, and he crossed the room in three long strides, wrapping his arms around me. I melted into him, letting his warmth steady the storm inside me. “You don’t have to be strong right now,” he murmured. “Not with us.” “I’m scared,” I admitted. “I don’t know what she’ll think. I don’t know what I’ll feel.” Jayden kissed the top of my head. “Whatever happens, you’re not facing it alone.” Hayden and Kayden entered next, each wearing the same soft, protective expression. Hayden took my hand, squeezing gently. “She’s your mother,” he said. “She’ll love you.” Kayden brushed a thumb across my cheek. “And if she doesn’t, she’ll answer to us.” I laughed softly, the tension easing just a little. “You three are ridiculous.” Jayden smirked. “We’re your ridiculous.” Before I could respond, a knock echoed through the pack house — louder, more formal. Zane’s voice followed. “Alphas. Luna. They’ve arrived.” My breath caught. Jonah appeared in the doorway a moment later, his eyes soft and full of emotion. “She’s here.” I swallowed hard. “Okay.” He stepped forward and offered his hand. “Walk with me?” I nodded and took it. My mates followed close behind, forming a protective triangle around me as we walked through the pack house. Warriors bowed their heads as we passed, their respect palpable. When we reached the front entrance, the doors were already open. Three wolves stood outside — two warriors and one woman. She was beautiful. Her hair was long and dark, streaked with silver. Her eyes were emerald green — my eyes. Her posture was regal, strong, but her expression… Her expression was broken. She stared at me as if she were seeing a ghost. Her hand flew to her mouth. “Marisol…” My heart stopped. Jonah stepped forward, his voice soft. “Mother.” She didn’t look at him. She couldn’t tear her eyes away from me. I took a shaky breath. “Luna Rose?” Her eyes filled with tears. “My baby…” She moved toward me slowly, as if afraid I might disappear. When she reached me, she lifted trembling hands and cupped my face. “You’re alive,” she whispered. “You’re alive.” Emotion slammed into me so hard my knees nearly buckled. Selena surged forward, pressing against her wolf with a desperate, aching need. “I didn’t know,” I whispered. “I didn’t know who I was.” She pulled me into her arms, holding me tightly, sobbing softly into my hair. “I searched for you. Every day. Every year. I never stopped.” I clung to her, tears streaming down my cheeks. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” “No,” she said fiercely, pulling back just enough to look at me. “You have nothing to be sorry for. You were taken from us. You survived. You grew strong. You found your mates. You found your place.” Her hands trembled as she brushed my hair back. “Let me look at you.” I laughed through my tears. “Okay.” She studied my face, her expression full of awe and grief and joy all tangled together. “You look just like your father.” Jonah stepped beside her, placing a hand on her shoulder. “She’s everything you said she’d be.” My mother nodded, tears spilling again. “She’s perfect.” Jayden stepped forward respectfully. “Luna Rose… Zendrea is our mate. Our Luna. She’s safe here.” She looked at him, then at Hayden and Kayden. Her expression softened. “I see that. Thank you for loving her.” Kayden bowed his head. “It’s an honor.” Hayden added, “She’s our whole world.” My mother smiled gently. “She deserves that.” Jonah cleared his throat softly. “Mother… perhaps we should move inside.” She nodded, wiping her eyes. “Yes. Yes, of course.” We walked together into the pack house. My mother held my hand the entire time, as if afraid to let go. Jonah stayed close, his presence warm and steady. My mates followed behind us, protective but respectful, giving me space to breathe. We entered the main sitting room, where a fire crackled softly. My mother guided me to the couch and sat beside me, still holding my hand. “I want to know everything,” she said. “Your life. Your childhood. Your wolf. Your mates. Everything.” I smiled softly. “I want to know everything too.” She brushed my cheek again. “We have time.” Jonah sat on my other side. “We’re not leaving anytime soon.” Jayden, Hayden, and Kayden took seats nearby, watching quietly, giving me space but staying close. My mother squeezed my hand. “I lost you once. I won’t lose you again.” I leaned into her, letting her warmth settle the ache inside me. For the first time in my life, I felt whole. The room softened around us — warm, quiet, safe — as my mother held me close and Jonah rested a protective hand on my shoulder. And for once everything was at peace.
