Chapter 8Sophia, 1995–1998 Thursday afternoon, March 23, 1995 “So, how’d you wind up in library school at age thirty-five? Bit late, aren’t you?” Sophia Andrews asked Gavin as she stirred the creamer into her coffee, watching the white ripple into a uniform tan. “On the other hand,” she added, “some people have told me I should have waited a bit after finishing my BA at Eastern Carolina. Do you think twenty-three is too young to be in grad school?” It was mid-afternoon, just after their two o’clock Young Adult Lit class, and Gavin had been heading downtown to the Carolina Coffee Shop, and had asked Sophia if she wanted to come, too.
