Gavin got a full-time job in 1990 and rented a tiny basement apartment on Rosemary Street, a few blocks from the public library over at Boundary and Franklin, and a few more blocks down Hillsborough Street to campus and Davis Library, which, in 1990, still felt new. Gavin found himself missing Wilson, the old main library, now rebuilt as Special Collections. But it was just as well; if he didn’t go into Wilson, maybe the Raoul-memories wouldn’t find him.
