It's been a month since that day. I had never been so afraid or hurt like that in such a long time. Not since my parents disappeared and then when I was told they were dead. I didn't know what were the issues in Revan's family or why his father acted in such a manner but I didn't want to be the cause of it. I hoped that by making Revan forget about me everything would get better between him and his father. I didn't dare go near that village. It would hurt too much to see him anyway.
"Obi, let's go for a bath," Obi wagged his tail and came running after me. I went into the lake and swam to the center. I laid my head back and floated as I stared up at the sky. "What a day it's been." My head was filled with so much worry. I didn't know what to do. I closed my eyes and sang a song my mother used to sing to me. I continued bathing and when I was done ran to get my towel so I could cover-up. I suddenly heard a rustling noise come from the bushes in front of me.
"Who's there?" I asked. No one answered. "I know someone is there. Come out."
"I am so sorry, Miss, I just," there was a handsome stranger staring back at me. His eyes were black as was his hair. He looked kind. He slowly smiled. "I got lost and I was going to turn back but I heard you singing."
"It's okay," I said. "I have to go." I wanted to leave but he grabbed my elbow.
"If I scared you, I am truly sorry," he said. "My name is Galen."
"I really have to go," I pushed past him and headed home. Obi by my side. "He sort of reminded me of."
"You shouldn't think about him," Obi said. "You made him forget for a reason."
"I can't," I said.
"I know it's hard but you could always love another," he said.
"Not the way I love him," I retorted. "Besides, I do not wish to love another."
"I guess but it would be easier," Obi mocked. I rolled my eyes.
The next day, I did my usual chores.
"Hello again," Galen said as he popped up behind me.
"You again," I said. He smiled.
"Yes, I wanted to apologize again," Galen said. "Here." Galen handed me a basket of peaches.
"Um, thank you but you didn't have to," I told him.
"But I wanted to," he smiled wider. "Please. Just take it. Let us be friends."
"You don't even know me," I said.
"But I want to, that's why I want us to be friends," Galen repeated. "Do you mind if we go for a walk?" I closed my eyes and inhaled sharply.
"Fine," I said.
"Don't be upset," we began to walk the forest. "Do you live nearby?"
"Not really," I said.
"I live in the village to the East," Galen said. My thoughts immediately went to him. My precious Revan. The memories of our time together. Our little time together. "Have you been there?" I almost didn't hear him.
"No," I said. I almost wanted to ask him about Revan but I didn't dare. My heart was already aching.
"Tell me about yourself?" he asked. "Do you have any siblings?" I thought his question unusual.
"No," I answered simply.
"Oh," he chuckled. "Well, I have a few." He didn't tell me their names but he said he had 3 brothers and 1 sister. He began to tell me a little about them. The wild one, The modest one, the naive one, and the carefree one. He said he was the wise one. I laughed a little at that. Was it wise to be talking to a stranger in the forest? I wondered but I guess he was after something.
"I must be going but I want to see you again," Galen said.
"I am rather busy tomorrow," I told him.
"Please," Galen begged.
"I'll try but I won't promise you anything," I told him. I went back home. Obi was waiting for me by the door.
"You should stay away from him," he said.
"Obi, it's fine," I told him. "I do not wish to get close to him or anyone else for that matter."
"I hope so, something feels off," he said. "Go pay your respects to the Earth Mother. Remember it is almost time for the blood moon to appear in the night sky."
"I know," I said to Obi. The night of the blood moon was the one night that the realm of the Fae was bound to the realm of the Earth. On those nights, I got to see the Earth fairies that gave me my powers. I had met other fairies in my years. Some good, some bad, some mischievous. I protected myself and my home. I tried to protect the people in the villages but sometimes it was hard. Casualties happened. That's why the villagers fear anything supernatural. They call it all evil because they do not understand. I went to the tallest and oldest tree and brought the fruit Galen had given me. I squeezed them and pushed the juices into the trunk of the tree.
"I offer you this gift. So you may grow even taller and live for all eternity," I said. "Let your roots feed those that surround you and feed on your leaves. Earth mother I will serve you and all that you have created. Let all living creatures hear my words. I am your humble servant. I am your child and will never stray." I finished giving my offering and headed back home. There were only three nights left until the blood moon. I had much to prepare.
The next day, I headed into the forest to gather gifts for my earth fairy friends.
"Do you always wander the forest alone?"
"Galen," I said startled. "Why are you here?"
"You promised to spend the day with me,"
