Screaming drew Emily from her bed. She got up and pulled her robe on as she opened the shutters to see the city under attack. She raced to the door, threw it open and stepped outside. She looked up to see dragons in the sky swooping down on the guards below as they fought for their lives against the rebels who were attacking them.
Emily was horrified, this was supposed to be the safest place in the Empire, and the rebels had somehow managed to sack it. One of the wigged monsters spotted Emily and came at her. Terrified, Emily threw her arms up to shield herself as she crouched down to cower. She was as good as dead.
Out of nowhere, a large body stepped between her and the attacking beast. He threw up his shield to defend against the burst of fire the beast let out, protecting them both.
