(Zephyr POV)
My whole body started to feel better. I felt sparks throughout my body, especially on my hand. It made me feel calm and I felt my pain slowly leaving my body.
I let out a sigh of relief.
"She is waking up!" I heard a familiar female voice that was filled with excitement.
Are my eyes closed?
I urged myself to open them. I felt a pain shot to my head but it immediately calmed down. Confused, I slowly opened my eyes.
"Violet?" I called as my eyes went to her.
"Oh thank the Lord!" she said, relieved, before taking a step closer.
"Well, I am glad you are awake."
My whole body froze as I heard a voice that I didn’t expect. My head snapped at the person sitting right next to me.
"Hai," he said, making me jump in my spot, shocked.
"What the hell?" I cursed and tried to move back but I was unable to move. My eyes widened as I noticed my hand was tightly gripped by his.
"What the hell!" I cursed again before trying to remove my hand, but it didn’t even budge. "Wha-what are you d-doing?"
I couldn’t help but blush. He was f*****g holding my hand and I could feel myself getting crazy over it.
"Calm down Lady. I am healing you" he said as I stared at him. He sighed and shook his head as if he felt irritated by the situation he was in. "Do you remember getting shot in your shoulder by an arrow?"
I could only mutely nod my head at his question.
"Well, do you feel pain in your body?"
'No only our sparks' I wanted to say to him but I held my tongue. I only shook my head.
"It's because I am healing you. I have the power to heal a person."
I slowly nodded my head. I already knew that but I acted like it was my first time hearing it. He had healed me before. It was how we met.
The moment our eyes met, we knew we were special to each other. But now….
What confused me more was how he was acting?
Yes, his memories were wiped off, but he should feel the sparks that are between us, right?
Why doesn’t he have a reaction to finding his mate?
Maybe he does but is hiding it? Does he not want to acknowledge the fact that I am his mate?
Maybe he had someone else? The very thought made me angry but I snapped back to reality as I felt a hand fall on my face.
"What are you thinking,to get all worked up? Stay calm, you're making me put more strain on healing you."
"So-sorry" I muttered before taking a deep breath. He hummed in approval as I kept taking deep breaths.
"I have to say, you have a really strong soul" he commented as I looked up at him confused.
"I have the power to touch a person's soul. I can feel how strong your soul is. It's…. Different from the ones I touched"
I stared as he let out a little laugh.
"Why am I telling you about my powers? I usually hide it from others."
He looked up and our eyes met. I couldn’t help but look away and it seemed to be the same for my mate. His left hand still rested on my left cheek.
"Have we met before?"
My eyes widened at that statement. On impulse, I pushed his hand from my face and looked away.
"I don’t think so."
I looked away, wanting to avoid his stare.
"But you seem to know my name."
"I… You are the king of the east. Of course, I know your name. I don’t know why you are acting as if it's some big thing."
"You called me Andrew. Not Andreas."
My head snapped at him, my eyes widened in shock.
"Only someone close to me knows that name."
His stare was filled with suspicion.
"Ohhh really? I didn't know that ha-ha. It must be just a twist of the tongue". I averted my eyes, knowing I would fail if I looked at him.
"You are avoiding eye contact with me. Why are you avoiding eye contact? Are you lying?"
"Of course not. Why would I lie?" I let out the fakest laugh I could make. I couldn’t help but internally cringe at how awful it was.
"Ok then. Please look into my eyes and say it"
"Ha, why are you being so adamant?" I looked at his eyes, trying my best to keep a straight face, but I squeezed them shut, taking a deep breath.
Having him hold my right hand was enough stress for me. Now I feel crazy looking into his eyes.
Stupid mate bond! And I get even more stressed knowing he doesn't feel it.
Why doesn't he feel it?
"You avoided it again."
Something inside me snapped.
"f*****g stop", I forcefully pulled my hand from him and stood up. The sudden movement made blood rush into my brain. I stumbled a bit but luckily Violet caught me.
"You OK?" Andrews asked me, taking a step towards me. His movement faltered as I raised my hand and stepped back.
"I am fine"
I started to feel pain in my shoulder but it wasn't horrible. I had gone through worse shits.
I stared into his eyes. His eyes held concern.
"What do you feel about me?"
The question caught him off guard. He frowned and c****d his head to the side confused. "What? I am sorry, but I am confused."
I stared at him for a couple of seconds. He didn't look like he was pretending. He was seriously confused. I sighed knowing I got the answer.
He doesn't feel what I feel.
Did his parents seal the mate bond or something? They probably did.
"Please leave."
I hate this feeling. I felt like I wanted to shout and cry out loud. I felt miserable knowing this. Not only does my mate not remember me, but he doesn't feel any spark.
"What? Are you OK? You loo..." I stopped him midway.
"I am fine. Thank you for healing me. I am really grateful, so please leave."
I didn't look at him but I could feel his stares. He stood watching me for a few more seconds before letting out a sigh.
"Ok. I will take my leave then."
I nodded my head before turning to Violet.
"Take him to one of the guest rooms. Also, tell the chief to prepare a portal for him to go back to his kingdom. Make sure his stay here is top importance"
Violet nodded at my comment before asking Andrews to go with her. Although my mate looked conflicted, in the end, he left.
The moment the door to my room closed, I sat on my bed feeling hopeless.
"f**k" I cursed as I grabbed a chunk of my hair. I wiped the tears from my eyes and groaned in frustration. My hand still felt the tingling sensation and I could even smell his scent lingering in the room.
Cursing, I stood up and took my weapon belt and tightly secured it around my waist. I snapped my hands as a piece of paper appeared.
'I am going out. Will come back later, I magically wrote as it floated on the notice board in my room which I shared with Violet.
Without waiting for a single second, I jumped out of the window and walked my way to the dark forest.
5 hours have passed since I left my room. After killing a lot of small beasts and 2 big ones, I slid down a tree taking deep breaths. I felt relieved after releasing all the stress that was building up inside me.
When I reached back to my room, Violet was already in the room getting ready to sleep.
"You skipped dinner."
"I went out to hunt", I shrugged, placing my bow on the table.
"King Andreas asked where you were. You should have seen how frustrated he was when everyone acted cool. He kept asking why no one was calling you. He ev-" she stopped as she saw me staring at her with wide eyes.
I couldn’t help it. Was Andrew concerned about me? Does he feel anything? A part of me wants to stay away from him. But the other part wants nothing more than to be by his side. To be recognized as his mate.
To be accepted.
"Oh, and they will be leaving tomorrow morning. Chief has arranged everything"
I felt my heart dip knowing I would not see him again. But it is probably for the best.
"Ok. I understand. Thank you for informing me."
I didn't bother hearing anything else so I immediately bid her goodnight before lying on my bed.
Hours passed and I didn't fall asleep. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t. I felt so depressed. At one point, I fell asleep but only to wake up with a nightmare of the past with him.
That morning, the chief called me to her office.
"Good morning" she smiled as I nodded.
"Good morning Chief"
My mate was silently sitting on the sofa but I didn't even glance at him.
"I have a new mission for you. King Andreas here has requested your assistance in his kingdom."
Fate really loves to mess with my life.
