The Bartender

Been working is the main bar of the hotel for a few months now and getting training in all area’s of the hotel,management happy about how fast I’m learning all the different roles hopefully I can work my way to the top. Surprise I still have a job after the stunt my boyfriend made on my first shift. Policy of the hotel states to all mobiles much be left in lockers so my phone was on silent and in a locker safe a sound and started my first shift and I didn’t want to ask what time I finished because I was happy to learn the ropes and wanted to make that first good impression only it was time to pack up the bar. Sam the bar manager was showing me what need to out the back when the bar phone rang.Sam answered it then glancing at me, “It’s for you,he says he’s your boyfriend mark?”he hands me the phone. I was mortified,I felt all the blood drained from my body.”oh ok,thank you” as I retrieved it. “Hello?” “Hey I’ve sent you messages and called but no answer,what time are you finishing??” I could not believe he was calling on my first shift.” I don’t know I’m still got things to pack up and we’re not allowed our phone on us while working so I didn’t know.I’ll call you when I’m finished and on my way home.” Trying to keep it short and sweet. “Oh ok,I hope they don’t keep you any longer” “Ok talk to you then,bye” I replied hanging up the phone. I turned to Sam to apologise “I’m so sorry he’s never done that and won’t be calling again unless it’s an emergency” “Good because I don’t want you distracted from your job” I sighed in relief and did my best to prove that I’m a good worker. “Hey Jess where did you work before here, and why you quit?”Sam asked “I work at the casino as waitress, but I had to get my shoulder fixed and recover was longer then I expected” thinking why did I give it up then releasing it was mark. …………………………………………………………… The first weekend and I realise how busy the bar gets I got into work a bit early to get the bar set up of the night and now I’m glad I did so far we’ve had to restock on most of the spirits and glasses. As I look out on the floor the see the Dj has arrived I see Mark behind him and his friend Cole. “Hey babe” Mark says walking up to me “Hey, hey Cole, what are you doing here?” I asked “I was tell Cole where you work and since we were out thought we’ll drop in and say hi, plus I wanted to meet the people you work with.” Mark says as he takes a look around. “Ok well this is Sam,my manager and Martin and Kelly but some of the guys haven’t started yet” I say introducing them. “Hey” Sam replies “Hey,nice meeting you all.”he turns to me and continues “Me and Cole will head out, Don’t want to distract you from work” kisses me goodbye. “Ok,I’ll call you on my break” as I turn to clean up a table that a couple of customers just left. Bring the Glassware back behind the bar and into the dishwasher. “So that’s your boyfriend?”asked Martin “Mark Yeah,why?” I replied “I use to work with in the Casino years ago,I thought he looked familiar” he continued “Oh ok,I didn’t know he was coming in since he was out with his friends tonight” I say Martin gave me a look and I had to ask “what?” “It’s nothing, I think he was seeing who you work with more to the point.He was eyeing me and Sam off while you were cleaning up” Surprise by the comment “oh really, sorry if you got the impression surely he was just looking around.” Waving it off. “Ok, but be careful” Martin said “help me with the floor mats before the busy hour starts” “Ok” I replied glad to change the topic. The night was busy and the fours went fast, having a break at 10pm going down to my locker to give my phone and giving Mark a call. It rings out until it goes to voicemail so I messages him “ hey,tried to call but went to voicemail.i’m on my break, give me a call i have 30 minute break.love you x” I go to the canteen to get something quick to eat before it closes.siting down eating a bowl of noodles. I notice Carry and Rachel walk in take a seat next to with a coffee. “How are things going in your first week?”asked Carry “Good,finally feeling settled now that I know where everything is.” I respond “Great, glad you joined the crew.was that your boyfriend that came in earlier?”Rachel asked “Yeah,he was out with his friend and popped in to say hi. I just tried to call him but don’t think he can hear it.”I say “By the look he was giving the guys I think he came to check out who you were working with” Rachel said “Don’t say that.sorry Jess, Rachel doesn’t have a filter.don’t take notice of her.” Carry said while she elbowed Rachel to shut up. “It’s ok I had that thought too, he is a jealous type but there’s nothing to be jealous about. “See she good,and now I know you’ll fit in just fine here”Rachel laughs “Sorry I got to head back,break time is over.”I say to the girl and headed back to my locker to put my phone away noticing Mark didn’t call or message me back.
