Darius and Melanie followed Zach’s truck to the hospital. When Zach pulled up to the emergency room entrance to let Thea and Chris out, Melanie hopped out of the car and ran to Zach’s door. He rolled the window down and looked at his sister.
“I will park your truck,” Melanie said. “Go in with Thea and Chris. They don’t need to be alone.”
“Thank you,” Zach breathed.
He exited the vehicle and hurried inside with Thea and her brother. The emergency room was crowded with firefighters, reporters, and others waiting for information on the injured firefighters. He soon spotted Roxy and his father sitting in a corner away from the hubbub. Zach ushered Thea and Chris over to where their mother was sitting to find out more and find comfort with her.
“Mom?” Thea asked.
