BETRAYAL
The dim lighting of the coffee shop couldn’t mask the sting of his words. Anna’s eyes narrowed, her grip on the cup tightening as if it might shatter in her hands. “You’re sorry?” she repeated, her voice barely a whisper.
Alex shifted uncomfortably his eyes darting around the room as if searching for an escape. “I was weak, Anna. It meant nothing, I love you.
The words cut deep, but anna’s anger kept her sharp. “You love me?” she laughed, a cold, mirthless sound, “you have a funny way of showing it”.
Anna’s mind flashed back to the discovery- the texts, the sneaking around, the lies. The pain and betrayal swirled, fuelling the anger. “You cheated on me with my best friend, no less. How do I even begin to forgive that? She thought about all the times thy spent together, the memories they created. It all felt like a lie now. The trust was broken, and Anna couldn’t see a way to mend it.
Alex reached out, hid hand hovering over hers, but anna snatched it away. “don’t touch me, she spat, her voice venomous. “You’re not worth of touching me.”
The coffee shop’s background noise receded, and Anna felt like she was drowning in her own pain. She needed to escape, to get out of there before she lost her composure completely.
“I’m done”, she said, her voice firm. “we’re done”.
As she stood up, Alex’s face contorted in desperation. “Anna please…”
But she was already walking away, leaving him and their relationship behind. The cool evening air hit her like a slap, snapping her back to reality. Anna took a deep breath, feeling the sting of tears in her eyes. She blinked them back, determination etched on her face. She would not cry over him again.
As she walked, Anna’s thoughts turned to her best friend Rachel the one who betrayed her trust and slept with her boyfriend. Anna’s anger simmered, and she wondered how she’d face Rachel again.
The city streets blurred together as Anna’s feet carried her toward…where? She didn’t know. But she knew she needed to get away from pain and heartache.
Anna’s phone buzzed in her pocket, but she ignored it. She knew it would be Alex, begging for forgiveness or trying to explain. But Anna wasn’t interested. She’d heard enough.
The sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the city. Anna walked, lost in thoughts, trying to process the betrayal and heart ache. She thought about all the what-ifs, all the maybes. What if she’d been more attentive? Maybe he’d still been faithful.
But deep down, Anna knew it wasn.t her fault. Alex’s infidelity was a reflection of his own character, nit hers. She just wished she could she could turn off the emotions, stop feeling so raw and vulnerable.
As the stars began to twinkle in the night sky, Anna finally stopped walking. She looked around, taking in her surroundings. She was farther than she realized, in a part of town she’d never been to before.
Anna took a deep breath, feeling a sense of uncertainty. Where should she go? But as she stood there, something inside her shifted. She realized she had a choice: let the pain define or use it to fuel her next, move.
