A Well Deserved Break

1125 Words
With the Bloodstone Pack being under a new Alpha, Braiden and I moved into a small human town, while we waited for the next assignment. This was the first time that we had had some downtime, and we were relishing in the quiet. That didn't mean that there was no threats, it just meant that the threats weren't awful enough to require intervention. Not only that but we had to be careful, we didn't want people to catch on that someone was intervening in packs, this could cause way more damage than good as rather than eliminating threats I could be perceived as the threat. The council was working on finding our next assignment and Braiden and I were relishing in the time off. "I'm going to the gym, want to come?" I asked Braiden while tying my hair into a messy bun. "Sure! Let me go get changed" Braiden quickly replied. Since being in town we had joined a small gym, not only did we like to make sure we kept up without fitness but it was important, contrary to popular belief just because we were wolves didn't mean we could eat whatever we want or slack on our fitness. Just like humans we could easily gain weight, not that there was anything wrong with that, but our job required us to remain fit. I loved the little gym in town, they had a lot of equipment as well as drop in classes that were a lot of fun. My favorite were the hot yoga and the boxing classes. Braiden and I were finishing up our workout when his cell rang. "It's mom" he said showing me the screen. "Hey Mom" he answered. "Yeah, sure that sounds great!" he paused, "haha, ok I won't but I don't think she'll like that" he said while looking at me and giving me a side smile. "Yup, understood. Love you too, I'll tell her. Say hi to dad. Bye!" He ended the call hanging up. "New assignment?" I asked, "and what won't I like?" Braiden laughed, "Not a new assignment, but we are going on a trip..." "Where?!" I demanded to know. "Mom said it was a surprise, but to pack for a few weeks." He replied. I groaned, I hated surprises and Braiden knew that, he laughed, "I told mom you'd hate that, but I think you'll end up loving the surprise." "Fine." I pouted, "but just know Storm doesn't like surprises either." "Don't drag me into this, I can handle a surprise, besides, I know where we're going." Storm huffed to me through our link. "What?! How do you know?! Tell me!" I responded to her. "Nope, I promised. I know because one of us needs to make sure we're safe." she replied, before retreating in my mind and blocking me. "Since no one wants to tell me where we're going. What should I pack?" I asked Braiden as we started walking home. "Nothing, mom says everything we need will be at our location." he replied. I rolled my eyes, this wasn't the first time that Braiden and his family had surprised me. Growing up they surprised me anytime they could with trips or gifts, wanting to keep my childhood as normal as possible, despite being anything but normal. When we arrived home I jumped into the shower, and quickly rinsed off before changing into a clean pair of leggings and an oversized t-shirt. Braiden had told me to dress comfortably for our holiday. A couple of hours later we arrived at the council's private airport, and we boarded the small private plane. Everyone including the pilot and flight attendant were being hush hush. I got comfortable in my seat, grumbling under my breath about how no one told me anything, while Braiden chuckled beside me. He leaned over and kissed me on the temple and told me to rest until we arrived. I instantly fell asleep. I wasn't sure how long I had slept, but when I woke up we were getting ready to land, I looked out the window to see the expansive ocean and white sand beaches. I instantly perked up, I loved the beach. "Welcome to the Bahama's" Braiden said to me when he saw I was awake. I squealed. I was so excited, I hadn't been to the beach since I was a young child when our parents took us for a mini holiday. As we were getting ready to disembark Braiden told me there was one more surprise, I raised an eye brow at him. He just grinned in response, as we walked down the stairs we were greeted by our parents. When I saw them I instantly ran to them wrapping them in a huge hug, we hadn't seen each other in months, with all the travel Braiden and I did it was hard to visit them, especially since they we're constantly traveling with the council. "SURPRISE!" they greeted me. "The council decided that since you have been doing so much good work you deserved a mental break. We wanted to spend sometime with you and Braiden." "Best. Surprise. Ever." I said, grinning like a fool. "Told you it would be a good surprise" Storm said to me. "Yeah, yeah" I responded to her. For the next week we spent the week at a private beach, on a private island. Resting, relaxing, soaking up the sun. We sparred and trained, learning new tips and techniques from our parents. Reading books, swimming in the ocean and mentally recovering from all the horrors we had seen. Even though we were doing good, it always took a little out of Storm and I when we had to use our powers to help a pack. On our last night we were sitting around a camp fire on the beach, all of us happily tanned and a little more relaxed. "Do we have a new assignment yet?" I asked. Dad nodded, "Yes, we've received a call from an Alpha in England. There's been an uptick in rogue attacks, on all packs, and it seems that a few Alpha's from smaller packs are working with them to try and gain more land and power from the bigger packs." "Multiple Alpha's?" Braiden asked. "Looks that way, according to the Alpha it appears there's more than one person helping the rogues." Dad responded. "Kelsey, you'll have to meet with the Alpha and gather some intel... And then we'll come up with a game plan... This might be your biggest assignment. Apparently the rogues are kidnappings women and children, and some are even being sold in order to build up their armies. Safe to say, it's not free will." I shook my head, "When do we go?"
