I wished to have even just a sip of water, and munch even just a slice of burger, Leo snarled at me when I pleaded with him earlier, “you won't eat or drink anything unless you sign all your assets under my name.”
I started hearing a couple of unusual voices from the living room. Could Leo be having a guest? I thought, and forced myself off the sofa to the door to listen to their conversation.
I heard a soft churring of wine pouring into a cup, afterwards, a faint chiming of glass cups. I suddenly heard my name being mentioned, “what about Lynn?” His voice was bass-like like Aaryan’s.
“Lynn.., “ and I heard Leo’s voice in the background, “she.., she is fine?”
“can I see her?”
“She's asleep now.”
I burst into tears feeling so bad at my helplessness. I wanted to scream so badly so Aaryan would notice my voice in the room but I was too weak, and depleted. If Aaryan only knew I was confined and starved in here, he would burst into my room at the drop of a hat and take me out of here.
Aaryan is like a big brother to me, and we have been childhood besties. I love Aaryan so much, we both share a great inseparable bond, I feel so happy and safe whenever I am around him.
Aaryan looked so handsome as a teenager back then in college. I was a junior student, and he was a senior student. Almost all of his classmates tried to bully and taunt me because I appeared so young, and little too. I was just thirteen.
One cold afternoon, I was walking through the school’s hallway when his tall, macho-looking class mates suddenly surrounded me. When I peeked around me, I saw there was no space for me to try to run. They stood like a huge fortress all against me.
“let me go…” I cried weakly like someone already defeated.
“what else can you do?” one of them stepped closer to me. His face was so intimidating, and he was narrowing his eyes at me like he wanted to devour me. I got so frightened, and tensed, I almost peed in my pants.
“please stay away from me.” I said so innocently, cowering in fear my voice shook uncontrollably.
“what’re you gonna do, meathead?”
His words elicited uproarious laughter from his friends, and among the other students in the hall my face burned in intense shame hearing their noisy laughters in my ear all at once.
“please stop it!” I howled, and the laughter hushed up, but I could still hear some silent giggles.
“come here!”
“no…” I shook my head unwilling to make a movement to him, and he exploded in rage like a maniac. He grabbed me by the collar of my shirt, the movement was so sudden, my glasses fell off my face.
I couldn't see properly anymore but I still felt many eyes staring at me acting so lost and confused trying to locate my glasses. I almost reached them on the floor, and the annoying student in front of me, Marcus, quickly stepped on them, crushing them in front of me. I listened to it as it cracked and I wailed in sorrow, “oh no, my glasses…”
I seemed so pathetic the other students broke into a serious outburst of mocking laughter.
“poor girl.” a feminine voice grimaced at me through the crowd.
“what are you going to do now? Meathead?” I heard Marcus’s voice so close in my ear this time, and the laughter in the hall increased. Their voices were as loud and noisy as a radio speaker.
He suddenly grabbed me by my hair, and holding a pair of scissors in his other hand to cut off my hair and render me bald.
“what are you going to do to me?” I felt so anxious, and he giggled at me devilishly.
“let go of my hair.”
“why will I?, “ he pulled my hair so tightly I moaned, “everyone here is already having a good time meathead.”
“let go! Let me go please I beg you.” I pleaded amidst tears, and Aaryan appeared all of a sudden in the hall like an angel who had come to rescue me from these ruthless jerks.
“let her go.” his deep bass-like voice echoed through the hall all the students quickly turned looking at him.
My lips curled into a bright smile soon as I heard his voice.
I listened to Aaryan’s footsteps as he walks towards us. Marcus immediately stood in front of him blocking his way, “just stay out of this.” he demanded.
“Lynn is my best friend and I love her.” He suddenly grabbed him by his shirt lifting him off the ground as if he weighed nothing at all, almost all the students gasped baffled at the pompous, proud Marcus up in the air under the fist of Aaryan.
“how dare you hurt her?”
Aaryan looked up at him with anger etched across his face, and Marcus struggling and paddling through the air to get down was so embarrassing an uproarious laughter echoed from the crowd.
Aaryan shoved him with a lot of force he landed weakly on the hard concrete floor smacking his waist so hard, he moaned.
“Brat!” Aaryan sneered at him, and he walked towards me. I looked at him standing above me stretching his arm to me offering to give me a support off the floor. I was still so traumatized, I just remained on the floor sobbing like a two-year-old.
“it's okay Lynn, don't be scared anymore.” He spoke so close to my ear, and I felt so happy staring at him besides me, I pulled him into a tight hug.
“I thought it'll be end of me today Aaryan, “ I was shaking in grief, “he almost scraped off all of my hair. If you hadn't been here…, my knight in shining armour, I won't have make it.” I shed tears on his neck, and he patted me lovingly on my back.
“you are like my little sister, I won't let anyone hurt you.”
Listening to his words felt like music to my ears, my cheeks blushed and I smiled so wide without realization.
“come on, get off the floor. Let's leave from here.”
“but I can't.”
“why?”
“my glasses. I can't walk if I don't see my way”
“ohh.” Aarayan gasped after spotting my glasses at the floor looking all smashed.
“it's okay, I’ll take you to class.”
“how do you mean?” I was puzzled.
He carried me off my feet in one sweeping motion, and I wrapped my arms around his neck as we step out of the hall.
Aaryan had always been my superhero, and at this moment, I wished he could come rescue me just like the old times. However, it was pointless hoping he’ll come for me, and help me escape from here, I saw him through my windows driving out of the mansion.
It shortly became night. It had been eighteen hours Leo had kept me in my room, I felt worse than a prisoner and a caged bird. I desperately wanted to be free, to be far away from Leo.
I suddenly heard an echo of some heavy footsteps approaching the door, and the doorknob was twisting a lot as if someone was forcefully trying to open the door, and shivers ran down my spine thinking Leo is back. Back for me, probably to finally finish me off.
What if this time he stabs me? I thought.
He shoved the door so hard with the heel of his boot, it flipped open with a blasting thunderous sound I got startled and I cringed.
