Kai
*Beep beep beep*
The alarm clock on the bedside table sounds and a still sleepy Kai Toluca slams her hand down on the snooze button causing the clock to fall from the bedside table.
"Kai! Get up! Your breakfast is getting cold." her mother Leona yells from the kitchen.
"I'm up. I'm up. Hold your horses. I'll be down in a minute." Kai called back.
It was the first day of senior year. Kai was ready to get this year over with. After doing some research online, Kai decided that after graduating she wanted to travel abroad for awhile, explore new places, meet new people. Her pack was nice and all, but she had known these people all her life and there had to be more to the world than what she already knew.
Kai showered and brushed her teeth, then went and got dressed in a pale yellow peasant top and blue jeans. The yellow of the top made her skin look more bronzed than it actually was and set her hazel eyes off beautifully. After tossing her caramel brown hair up in a messy bun and applying some gloss, she grabbed her satchel and ran towards the kitchen.
"There you are." Her younger brother Ridge exclaimed. "For a minute, I thought we were going to need to send a search party after you."
Kai rolled her eyes. "Very funny d**k. Ha ha!" she retaliated while grabbing some toast and heading for the door. "Are you coming or what?"
"I'm going to go with or what." Ridge said snidely.
"Fine. I don't give a f**k. It's s**t like that that's the reason why you're still a sophomore instead the junior you're supposed to be." she muttered.
"Kai Octavia Toluca!!!! Language missy!!!" Leona warned.
"Mom, you know I'm right. Ridge never takes things seriously enough, then always wants to cry victim for his stupidity. I refuse to play into it."
As much hell as she gave him, Kai loved her little brother. She just knew he needed a good swift kick in the ass every now and then or else risk the chance of ending up like that spoiled ass alpha friend of his Declan Flannery. That kid acted like the world owed him something and maybe it did but he didn't have to be so douchey about it.
"I'll be in the car, Ridge. Whenever your highness can grace me with his presence so we can go to school."
Five minutes later, Ridge exits the house and walks up to the passenger side of his sister's old Honda Civic. It wasn't much to look at, but it was dependable and that's all that mattered to Kai. The ride to school was an awkward silence. She couldn't wait to get there and be rid of Ridge.
As she pulled into her spot, she saw her friends Emmy and Harper waiting at the entrance to the school. She didn't even have the car stopped and in park by the time Ridge opened the door and rushed out.
"OMG why do you have to be such an ass?" Kai shouted. Ridge just shrugged and kept on walking.
"See you after practice sis."
Fuck....Kai thought to herself. I forgot that prick had football practice today.
"Hey girly." Emmy called out to Kai. Her long black locks shining in the sunlight and her bright blue eyes smiling at Kai. "How was your summer?"
"It was decent. I worked for most of it. Had to earn money to get out of here after graduation. Saved nearly every penny I earned."
Harper looked at Kai with her mouth agape. "You're trying to leave the pack after graduation? But why?"
"I just think the experience would be more fulfilling than staying here and becoming some guy's baby making machine. There has to be more to life than finding a mate and popping out pup after pup. I don't even think I like pups to be honest."
"She makes a valid point you know, Harper?" Emmy stated.
"I guess so, but it's always been my dream to find my prince charming and settle down. Maybe have three or four pups. Wouldn't it be awesome if by some stroke of luck the goddess paired me with the future alpha? I could be Luna." Harper shrieked out.
"Be paired with THAT obnoxious man w***e? Hard pass." Kai laughed. "But, if you're into used goods, then more power to you."
Emmy had to stiffle a laugh because in all truth, Kai was right. The future alpha had been with a majority of the pack sluts who were aiming for that position of being his luna. However, if he was her fated....she wouldn't object to it.
The girls made their way to their first class, werewolf history. Kai tried her hardest to pay attention to what the teacher was saying but kept finding herself distracted. She felt like someone was watching her, but whenever she glanced around no one appeared to be. No matter how many times she tried to shrug it off, the feeling always came back. She was just being paranoid. Right?
