Roxy looked shocked on the stage when she saw Simon appear, but she quickly smiled. “Why are you here, Uncle Landry?”
She picked up the microphone and said to everyone, “Allow me to introduce Mr. Landry to everyone. This is my Uncle Landry. He’s the man in charge of Victorious Construction Company and the one behind this sponsorship. Let’s give him a round of applause and welcome Mr. Landry to our meeting!”
The crowd applauded right after Roxy said this.
There was enthusiasm on everyone’s faces.
“Mr. Landry is really rich. He’s giving out thirty million like it’s nothing.”
“That’s true. Our President Pearson really is something. Mr. Landry must have sponsored the club so much because of her.”
“President Pearson really is something. She’s so pretty and so capable.”
The people next to me were applauding and talking about it at the same time.
A sneer appeared on my face as I listened to them.
Capable?
She was capable, alright. Capable of scamming others!
She was about to have her just desserts in a while.
Just as I guessed, Simon now looked extremely grim and seemed to be in a bad mood.
Everyone watched as he walked up the stage slowly. Then, he did something that shocked everyone watching.
He lifted his hand and gave Roxy a sharp slap.
The slap was so loud it astonished everyone.
Roxy was in a daze. She held her cheek, looking absolutely stunned.
She reacted a few seconds later, still holding her cheek and saying pitifully, “What are you doing, Uncle Landry? Why did you slap me?”
“Why? You’re asking me why?” There was rage in Simon’s eyes. “Why did you lie to me?”
“Lie to you? I didn’t lie to you about anything. You were the one who wanted to donate the thirty million to the entrepreneur society. I never lied to you at all.” Roxy looked extremely humiliated.
“Hoho, you’re still not admitting it? I said that money was meant to be for the president of the entrepreneur society. Why did you pretend to be her?” Simon questioned her unhappily.
“I didn’t pretend. I am the president! I may be the vice president now, but I’ll be the president very soon.” Roxy kept defending herself. “You’re just making a donation. Isn’t it the same whomever the money goes to?”
“Stop twisting words in front of me.” Simon glared viciously at her. His gaze turned to the few people at the side. “May I ask who is the real president of the entrepreneur society?”
Simon emphasized the word ‘president’, as if afraid he would make a mistake again.
Everyone turned to look at Nadia when he said that.
Nadia was drawing a blank as well. She stood up in a daze under everyone’s scrutiny. “I’m the president. May I ask if anything the matter, Mr. Landry?”
“It’s like this. That thirty million was actually meant for you, but this girl cheated me for it, which was why this mistake happened. Please forgive me for it.”
With that, he actually gave Nadia a bow.
Nadia was initially in a panic, and when this happened, it panicked her further and she ended up bowing in return to Simon.
“Mr. Landry, there’s no need for this. I’m already very happy that you’re willing to give us thirty million. How could I even blame you?”
“Thank you for not blaming me.” Simon let out a huge sigh of relief. “By the way, in order to extend my apology, I will add on to the original thirty million and increase the donation by another ten million, making it a total of forty million under your name.”
“What? A bigger donation?” Nadia was stunned.
The audience below the stage went into a frenzy.
“What the f**k? Has that Simon Landry gone crazy? He’s giving an additional ten million? That’s forty million. A total of forty million!!!”
“The entrepreneur society is rich! I’m going to come up with a proposal and apply for the venture capital fund!!!”
“Nadia Williams is really something. Did you notice how polite Simon Landry was to her? Could she be his illegitimate daughter?”
“Get out of here! Stop with the speculating. How could that be possible?”
“It doesn’t matter what the story is. Nadia Williams is just incredible. She got forty million in funds just like that. She has just made history.”
I smiled happily when I heard everyone talking about it.
Even though this plan had gone through some setbacks, everything ended up working out.
I believed Nadia would be able to stand her ground in the entrepreneur society now. As for Roxy, her reputation had gone down the drain, and she might even get kicked out of the society.
Whatever was going to happen next was no longer interesting to me.
I put on my sunglasses and left the screening hall, taking my secret contribution with me.
…
Simon came following not long after I left the screening hall.
He came running breathlessly behind me.
“Wait a minute, Mr. Chairman. Wait for me.”
I stopped and glared at him in exasperation. “Are you afraid no one knows who I am, so you feel the need to shout my name like that?”
“I-I’m sorry. I’ll pay more attention to that next time,” Simon said in embarrassment. “Mr. Chairman, were you satisfied with how I handled this matter?”
“Satisfied? What is there to be satisfied with? If I hadn’t realized the mistake in time, it would have been too late,” I said in frustration.
Simon wiped away the sweat from his forehead and said, “Mr. Chairman, I was too anxious to look at the situation properly at first, but I’ve made it up to you in the end. Can you do something about the board of directors?”
Simon rubbed his hands together with an over-friendly look on his face.
“I’ll let you off for now on account of your sincerity, but you need to be more upright in that seat of yours, understand?” I gave him a warning.
Simon was nothing like Vincent was.
That was why I had to give him a proper warning.
Besides, it would not be easy to impeach someone of Simon’s status. I was just taking the easy road.
“I understand, Mr. Chairman. I understand completely. I will be completely loyal to you from today onward.”
“Alright. It’s good that you understand this. Classes are about to be over soon. You should leave if there’s nothing else. Don’t let anyone see you.”
“Alright. Just feel free to let me know if you need anything, Mr. Chairman.”
Simon left after that.
…
Nadia was still not out from the screening hall even after I had been gone a while.
I knew that there had to be a lot for her to handle.
It was around 5 PM when I received her message. “Don’t get dinner, Freddie. I’m buying you a meal tonight."
There was a series of smiley faces behind the message.
I could tell that she was really happy right now.
“Sure. I’d like a scrumptious meal tonight.”
“No problem. I’m still busy right now, but let’s talk later tonight.”
…
I waited at the school gates for Nadia at 6 PM.
She was looking happy and extremely delighted right now.
“Congratulations, our dear class representative. Judging by your expression, I’m guessing you’re still the president for next term?” I chuckled.
“That’s for sure. Come on, I’m buying you a good meal. Anything that costs five hundred and below per person. Take your pick.”
“Alright. I know a good steak restaurant. Let’s go there.”
“Okay.”
…
We got to Sicily a few minutes later. It was the restaurant Lindy Lowry owned.
We even got a private suite specially for ourselves.
Nadia looked me up and down when the door closed behind us. She looked at me with shrewd eyes and said, “Don’t you have something to say to me, Freddie?”
“What about? Congratulations? Haven’t I already congratulated you?” I continued to pretend I did not understand what she meant.
“Still pretending with me, aren’t you? You were the one who helped me out today, am I right?” Nadia said with conviction.
“Huh? No, it wasn’t me. How could it have been me? I’m just a penniless loser.” I chuckled.
“Stop continuing with the pretense. You’ve blown your cover,” said Nadia.
“Blown my cover?”
“That’s right.” Nadia took her phone out and showed me our chat.
It was the chat we had about me helping her ask around when I found out she had less than a hundred thousand in sponsorship money.
I laughed bitterly at this.
I never imagined I would accidentally reveal myself this way…
This was all Simon’s f*****g fault.
“Thank you, Freddie. I would never have thought you would have give me such big help.”
“Well, I…” I opened my mouth, but I had no idea what to say.
“Freddie, who exactly are you?” Nadia looked at me curiously.
“I… can’t really explain it,” I stammered.
“It’s fine. Don’t say anything if you don’t want to. I know who you truly are,” Nadia said confidently.
