I lay in bed at home, thinking about how to help Nadia.
They were just a small society, so they should not actually require a large sponsorship.
Nadia would probably be able to win with one or two million.
The problem I had now was how to give her the money.
If I gave her too little, it would not have any effect. If I gave her too much, how would I explain the source of the money?
I gave it a lot of thought but could not come up with a good plan.
…
I waited for a long time that night for Montana to come home.
I sent her a message. “Hey, it’s getting late. Why aren’t you home yet?”
Montana replied to me quite quickly. She was as prideful as usual. “Hmph, none of your business.”
“Are you coming home at all?”
“I’m not. I’m staying with my bestie!”
I was a little disappointed to read Montana’s reply.
I knew she was avoiding me on purpose, but I understood why.
It was possible that she had accepted me.
However, even though she had accepted me, it did not mean that she was ready for me.
Other issues aside, she was afraid we would end up sleeping together. She was hiding from me because she did not want that to happen.
I knew this was not something that should be forced. It had to happen naturally.
At this thought, I decided to let it be. It no longer bothered me that she was not home that night.
…
I went to school alone the next day.
When classes were over, I was surprised to find myself stopped by someone on the road.
It was Simon Landry.
He got out of his Mercedes Benz and said with a bitter look on his face, “Can you spare me a few minutes, Mr. Chairman?”
I looked around. When I saw that no one was looking at us, I replied in a low voice, “What do you want?”
“It’s like this. Mr. Quinn put in a motion for me to be impeached during our board meeting. I know that Mr. Quinn is your subordinate. Can you let me off on the account that I’ve been with the company for a long time?”
Simon begged me in a low voice.
He would have knelt in front of me if not for the people walking around.
“Ho, look at all those dirty deals you made, thinking no one would ever discover them. You deserve to be impeached.”
“Mr. Chairman, it was just a moment’s weakness on my part. Please, let me off on the account that I have fought and worked hard for this company for so many years. As long as you’re willing to let me off, I’m willing to return the construction company I’m in charge of to the group.”
“Well…”
I hesitated. “What’s your company’s value?”
“It’s worth at least thirty million.”
“Thirty million?”
I grunted. Suddenly, an idea came to me. “Let’s do this. You don’t need to return the company to the group. I have a girlfriend who is the president of the entrepreneur society at our school. She currently requires sponsorship for her society. Sponsor her a sum of money under your construction company’s name. If you do this well, I’ll consider letting you off.”
“Are you serious?” Simon’s depressed look turned to joy. “How much would you like me to sponsor her?”
“That would depend on your sincerity,” I chuckled as I said.
“I understand, I completely understand. I’ll head to the school right now. She’s the president of the entrepreneur society, right? I’ll give her the money personally,” Simon said with slight agitation.
“By the way, just give her the money. Don’t tell her you’re following my orders, understand? Make up some reason.”
“I understand, I understand.” Simon was delighted.
“Alright, go ahead.”
…
After class was over the next day, I rushed straight to the entrepreneur society’s meeting.
This was an important meeting for the entrepreneur society as they were about to choose the next president and also reveal the value of the venture capital funds raised this year. That was why many of their members were present.
As there were too many people, they made a last-minute decision to change the meeting venue from the meeting room to the screening room.
As for me, I replaced Johnny Sims and took part in the meeting as a member.
No one could recognize me as I had put on sunglasses.
…
The meeting was meant to start at four.
The room was full by three-thirty.
Even though the entrepreneur society was just a school club, it was the most popular club in school. The society gave out venture capital funds worth millions to students every year.
As long as the business proposals submitted by the members were outstanding enough, they would have a chance at receiving the fund.
Among the alumni of the entrepreneur society were a number of millionaires and even billionaires, which was why many paid close attention to the society.
Before the meeting even begun, those present were discussing matters in low voices.
Nadia was sitting in the president’s seat, but she was frowning tightly and looked quite unhappy.
I had no idea why was she acting this way, so I sent her a message.
“What’s wrong? Haven’t you gotten the money yet?” I asked.
“What? I’ve only managed less than a hundred thousand so far. Didn’t you say you would help me? How’s it going on your side?”
What? Less than a hundred thousand?
I read the message again to make sure I had read it right.
I was stunned.
Had Simon just lied to me?
That was impossible. He would not have such courage.
“That’s not right. Give me a minute. Let me ask around for you.”
I took my phone and left the screening room. I called Simon on the phone.
“Simon, what’s going on? Didn’t I ask you to provide sponsorship? Why does my girlfriend have less than a hundred thousand put together?” I asked Simon angrily.
“That’s impossible!” Simon denied this. “Mr. Chairman, I’ve given her the money. It’s thirty million in total, and I was even given a receipt.”
“What? You were given a receipt? Whose name is on it?”
“Roxy Pearson. Isn’t she your girlfriend?” Simon was confused.
I immediately understood what was going on when he told me that. I was exasperated. “You’ve got it wrong. She’s not my girlfriend. My girlfriend is Nadia Williams.”
“That’s not right. Roxy said she was the president of the entrepreneur society. That was why I gave her the money.”
“That’s enough! I’m not going to explain any further. Just come over here quickly.”
“Alright, I’m on my way.”
I realized what had happened after I was done talking to Simon.
Roxy must have wanted the credit, which was why she was pretending to be the president.
Simon had been tricked because he had no idea about the situation at hand.
…
I returned to the screening hall after my call was over.
There were two points up for discussion in this meeting.
One of them was finding out who had acquired the highest sponsorship for this year.
Roxy had been just a freshman at school last year, but she had been able to become the vice president due to her personal network. She had acquired a total of eight hundred thousand in sponsorship money.
That was why this time, whoever managed to acquire the highest sponsorship would be elected president.
The meeting began at 4 PM.
The school head began the meeting with a speech and jabbered on for quite a while.
Finally, it was time for what everyone was waiting for.
It was the reveal of the sponsorship amount for the venture capital fund, as well as how much would be allocated to the members this year.
As the mystery was about to be disclosed, everyone below the stage went quiet, and their ears perked up to listen in properly.
However, right at that moment, the emcee ran off the stage with a list in his hand. He spoke to someone below the stage.
He returned to the stage after that.
“All members of the society, I was astonished because I thought there had been a mistake with the printing when I received the list, which was why I had run off the stage to consult with the leaders. However, after confirming the information, I can safely say that the data in my hands is completely accurate.
“I am absolutely floored. Would anyone like to have a guess of how much our society has managed to acquire this year?” The emcee said, wanting people to guess.
“Could we have surpassed the million-dollar mark?”
“We must have surpassed a million, otherwise the emcee wouldn’t be so shocked. I’m guessing it could be two or three million.”
Everyone began talking about it off-stage.
The host smiled mysteriously when he heard them talking about it. “You can stop guessing, everyone. You wouldn’t be able to guess this sum even if you tried. Allow me to announce the final results! This year, our society has managed to put together a total of thirty million!!”
“Thirty million???”
Everyone was shocked at the announcement!
They would have thought they heard wrongly if not for the emcee emphasizing it a few times.
“That’s right, thirty million! That’s a huge sponsorship which was acquired by our vice president, Roxy Pearson. Next, let’s invite her up on the stage to speak to us.”
With that, the emcee passed the microphone to Roxy.
Right at that moment, someone shouted from the entrance of the screening hall, “Wait!!!”
I turned to look. It was none other than Simon, who had rushed all the way here!
