“You? You’re a penniless loser, of course!” Susan said with complete disdain.
“I’m a penniless loser?”
Her words made me laugh. I opened my mouth, about to say something.
However, Yvette voiced out before I could. “Susan, don’t you know the art of conversation? If you don’t, you should keep your filthy mouth shut. No one would think you’re a mute if you do!”
“Yvette, I’m doing this for your sake. I know you’re grateful that he helped Dad, but you can’t give your life away because you’re grateful. You can totally find someone better with your looks and body. There’s no need for you to set your bar so low.” Susan acted as if she was doing all this for Yvette’s benefit.
“If that were true, Susan, I’ll be grateful to you!” Yvette began to get sarcastic. “Although, Freddie is the only one I’ll marry in this lifetime. He’s a much better person than you make him out to be.”
“Is that so?” Susan laughed at those words. “Could he be better than your brother-in-law? He’s the contractor for Stamen Real Estate. The projects that go through him are worth several billion.”
“There is no need to mention money when we’re a family.” Billy waved it off in a humble manner. “Even though those are huge projects and I’m made million in profit, it’s not really worth mentioning.”
Billy may claim that it was not worth mentioning, but he was showing off with every word he spouted.
“Darling, there’s no need for you to be so humble about it. They will disrespect you if you act this way. Also, we’re not here to show off our wealth. We just want Yvette to understand that we’re doing all this for her own good.”
“Right. That’s right. We’re doing this for Yvette’s own good.” Billy nodded and said to Yvette, “Yvette, even though your sister’s words don’t sound easy to the ear, she means well. Why don’t you come work for me? I’ll arrange a position for you. It’s going to be way better than being a real estate salesgirl. The money and reputation aren’t great.”
Billy chuckled when he said this.
While he was talking, his eyes never left Yvette. There was a lusty glint in them.
It was just a flash, but I caught it.
I was wondering why they were trying to convince Yvette to change jobs. It was because of this s*x p*****t. He had set his eyes on Yvette.
Was it possible that he was trying to have both sisters for a threesome?
Yvette had also noticed the look in Billy’s eyes. She frowned and said, “Billy, what’s wrong with the reputation of a real estate salesgirl?”
“Don’t you know? There’s a rumor within the industry saying that every time a Cloudy Waters villa is sold, there will be one salesgirl less over there. They are saying that these salesgirls have been selling their bodies, like prostitutes of a slightly higher caliber.”
“Who are you calling a p********e?!”
Yvette suddenly stood up, looking green in the face.
“What are you doing, Yvette? You should sit down.” Billy laughed as he pulled Yvette down, gesturing for her to sit. “I’m not talking about you. I’m just informing you of the current situation in the industry. It’s because of this that I’m trying to convince you to change jobs. It’s best you stop working in sales. Come on and work as my secretary. I’ll pay you twenty thousand a month. How does that sound?”
Billy smiled and looked at Yvette with full confidence.
“I don’t think that’s necessary. Yvette will be working for me. She won’t miss a measly twenty thousand a month salary,” I said with a smile.
“Work for you?”
Billy looked astonished.
Susan spoke in a ruder tone. “Is she being paid nothing by working with you?”
I ignored Susan’s sarcastic words and chuckled. “It’s quite a coincidence that I’m working with the Stamen Group too.”
“You work at Stamen?” Susan looked shocked. She quickly turned to Billy. “Darling, didn’t you say that it’s difficult to get into Stamen Group? Only the best of the best would be able to join the company.”
“That’s true. It’s quite difficult to get in. I guess he’s the new intern working there. I heard that Stamen Group had just recruited a batch of interns. They aren’t considered full-time staff and there’s a high ratio of elimination.”
“I see.” A look of realization appeared on Susan’s face at this point. She turned to look at me. “I would never have thought that you would be so lucky to be able to get into Stamen Group as an intern. My husband has a close relationship with the upper management at Stamen Group. If you agree to break up with Yvette, I’ll get his help to talk to the upper management there and give you an opportunity. You might be lucky enough to become a full-time staff. How does that sound? This is a good bargain, isn’t it?”
“Give me an opportunity?”
Her words made me laugh. “I’m sorry, but my position is pretty high up at Stamen Group. I’m afraid no one can give me an opportunity there. You two, on the other hand, if you kneel and kowtow to me twice, I might be able to forgive your insolence. I could even give you an opportunity for your business.”
“What a braggart you are, you rascal. Kowtow to you? Who do you think you are? Vincent Quinn?” Billy said with slight disdain.
As for Susan, she was laughing so hard that she was almost crying.
They laughed for quite a while before Susan said, “Darling, why don’t we leave? It’s quite a horrible feeling to be eating here with a braggart. Also, these dishes are just too terrible for me to swallow. Why not bring me for Australian lobster?”
“Alright. Let’s go have lobster.”
With that, Billy hugged Susan around the waist and prepared to leave.
Before they left, Billy suddenly turned back to look at me. He chuckled and said, “By the way, Freddie, I’m giving you one last opportunity to make up for your rudeness just now. Kneel and kowtow to me twice, and I’ll let you off. Otherwise, just wait till Stamen Group fires you. I am pretty close with a few of the upper management.”
“Is that so? I’ll wait for it to happen then.” I sat where I was and a sneer appeared on my face.
“You just wait and see.”
They got into a Range Rover after that and drove off.
…
Once they were gone, the atmosphere in the room became quite tense.
Everyone had lost their appetites after the ruckus those two had caused.
David was quite embarrassed as he said to me, “I’m so sorry about this, Freddie. I’ve done a bad job bringing up my daughter. This must all be a joke to you.”
“That’s right, Freddie. We’re so sorry about today. I didn’t expect they would suddenly visit us. You won’t really be fired, would you?” Yvette felt quite guilty about this and tears were brimming in her eyes.
“Don’t worry. I’ll be fine. I fire people at Stamen Group, not the other way round,” I said with a chuckle.
“There is no need to console me, Freddie. I know I’ve brought you trouble again this time. Don’t worry. I’ll give my entire life to do anything for you, and repay the debt I owe you.”
“…”
I was quite speechless. Why did nobody believe that I was telling the truth?
I decided to change the topic of conversation. “By the way, is everyone full? I’m still feeling hungry.”
With that, I picked up my utensils and began wolfing down my food.
When Rosa saw me this way, she began to put away the dishes in embarrassment. “Stop eating, Freddie. My dishes aren’t great. You should bring Yvette with you for a meal outside.”
She got out a few crinkled pieces of money from her pocket and passed them to Yvette.
“That’s not necessary.” I waved her off. “These dishes are actually quite delicious.”
I knew that Rosa was acting this way because of what Susan had said.
“There’s no need to make me feel better, Freddie. The dishes I make are considered value for money. They can’t be compared to restaurants out there. You’ve given us so much help. At the very least, we can still buy you a meal.”
“It’s really not necessary.”
To prove my sincerity, I snatched a few plates and poured the food into mine. “Auntie, the dishes you made are really delicious. To be honest, I’m an orphan. The one thing I’ve always wanted to eat was home-cooked food. These dishes you made taste especially good to me.”
With that, I began wolfing down the food once more.
While I was eating, I noticed Rosa quietly wiping her tears away with the corner of her sleeve after giving a long sigh.
…
Yvette walked me out after dinner.
The street lights made our shadows look especially long on the road.
Yvette was silent throughout our walk.
I knew something was on her mind, so I asked, “What’s wrong, Yvette?”
“Freddie, what should I do with my sister? She didn’t use to be this way!”
