I thought I detested the Reeds.
They had been tyrannically abusing their power and victimizing the people here, but now that I was watching them tremble with fear, I found myself not detesting them as much.
I gave a wave of my hand and said with flagging interest, “I can let you off, but that dependson your sincerity.”
A smile appeared on Mr. Reed’s face as he said with an over-friendly expression, “Young Master Lang, as long as you are willing to let us off, we are willing to do anything.”
“Anything?” I smiled. “Seeing as you’ve been victimizing people all these years and have brought so much harm to those living here, how about I punish you by donating all of your fortune to local welfare centers? After that, get out of Shura City and never return.”
“What? That’s too much, Freddie!”
Zack got angry when he heard my words and was immediately unwilling to do so.
However, Mr. Reed quickly pressed his head to the ground and kowtowed to me in gratitude. “Thank you for being magnanimous, Young Master Lang. We’ll do as you say.”
“Seeing as you’re pretty willing to follow what I say, I’ll allow you to keep enough money to have a decent life, but you’re not allowed to return to Shura City anymore!”
“Thank you. Thank you, Young Master Lang!” Mr. Reed immediately knelt on the ground to kowtow in thanks again.
I felt a little astonished to see him acting so obediently.
I knew I had a lot of money and that Stamen Group was very powerful. However, it was only upon arriving at Shura City that I understood what my riches had brought me.
It was not just a luxurious life. A simple word and a decision from me could seal someone’s fate, even the fate of the richest man in an area.
Just like the Reed Family.
They had been terrorizing Shura City, but they had to follow my orders with no room for objection.
All that had happened today made me understand how scary the power I held was after inheriting the fortune.
After making arrangements for the Reed Family, I turned to Jordan and Lance. “Thank you both for your help today. I will personally give you my thanks alongside with Uncle Quinn when I have the chance.”
“No problem.”
The both of them waved me off. “Uncle Quinn is our benefactor, and it is an honor for us to be able to assist you.”
“By the way, I need both your help in helping me watch over this matter with the Reed Family and ensuring that they keep their promise. Also, I need you to keep whatever happened today a secret. I don’t wish that whatever happened here is spread around.”
As we were situated in the north in Shura City and we were quite far from where I lived at Ocean City, I was slightly more daring in revealing my identity.
However, I never expected Vincent to get the help of these two killing machines.
If the people at Ocean City found out what I had done today, my identity would probably be exposed.
“Don’t worry, Young Master Lang. We placed the entire Crowing Alley on lockdown when we arrived. The people outside have no idea what happened here today,” said Lance.
“That’s right. Don’t you worry, Young Master Lang. Since this involves Four Seas Triad, Mr. Reed would not dare defy orders unless he wants to go up against the entire triad,” said Jordan.
“Alright. Thank you both for the trouble today.” I gave both of them a fist and palm salute.
“You’re welcome, Young Master Lang. If there’s nothing else, we’ll be taking our leave.”
The both of them left after that.
As for the Reeds, Jordan’s men dragged them away like dogs.
…
The garden finally returned to its usual peace and quiet after everyone left.
It was only then that Montana had the chance to ask the questions in her head .
She looked at me as her pretty eyes widened. “Who exactly are you, Freddie?” How did you manage to get the military and people from Four Seas Triad here?”
“I…”
I hesitated. In the end, I decided to hide my identity. “I’m not hiding anything from you on purpose. It’s just that I’ve made a promise to someone to not to reveal who I am. But don’t worry. With me around, no one will dare bully you anymore.”
“I believe you.” Montana nodded gently. “Thank you, Freddie. You’ve helped me again, and I have no idea how to thank you.”
“Hey, you shouldn’t feel sorry about things when it comes to us. By the way, where’s your mother? I’ve been here for quite a while, yet I still haven’t seen her.”
“My mum, she…” Montana faltered. Sean suddenly returned at that moment.
He walked into the garden and said to Montana insincerely, “Are you alright, Montana? Did Zack Reed hurt you?”
He even circled Montana to check on her nervously as if making sure she was not hurt.
“Stop pretending with me!” Montana pushed Sean away in disgust.
“Please don’t be mad at me, Montana. I wasn’t scared. I just left to get some help, but for some reason, the entire Crowing Alley was locked down and I couldn’t get back in. Please don’t be angry at me. Tell me what happened just now. Everyone is talking about the Reeds being dragged off. What’s going on?”
“There’s nothing for me to say to you.” Montana returned to her room after saying this.
Sean could not get any word out of Montana, so he turned to me instead. “Son-in-law, what exactly happened just now? Did you manage to settle the debt?”
“I’ve settled the debt, but don’t even think about doing this again. If I ever find out that you’re gambling again, I’ll chop off a hand of yours for every single time you gamble,” I said viciously.
“You’ve settled it?” Sean looked delighted. “Don’t worry, Son-in-law, I will never gamble again. I promise.”
He spoke confidently.
However, I knew very well what the promise of a gambler sounded like. It was like the sweet words of a customer to the p********e he had hired. They could not be trusted.
I opened my mouth to continue warning him.
However, Montana walked out with her handbag. “Stop chatting to him, Freddie. I want to take you somewhere.”
“Alright.”
…
After a few minutes, we arrived at a hospital nearby that Montana had brought me to.
“Is your mum in the hospital?” I asked curiously.
“Yes. Mum has been going through treatment in the hospital due to her poor health. Come with me.”
I followed Montana into a ward.
From outside the ward, I was able to see Montana’s mum in bed.
Her skin had a yellow tinge to it as she laid in bed, but she was conscious. She was staring at the ceiling, and there was a blank look in her eyes.
It was not until Montana pushed open the door that some life returned to her.
“You’re here, Montana.”
“Yup. And look who I brought with me.”
“Who is this?” Montana’s mum looked at me from her bed and a questioning look appeared in her eyes.
“Mum, he’s Freddie, the friend I mentioned to you. He’s here to see us.”
“This is Freddie?”
Montana’s mum tried to struggle out of bed when she saw me. “Montana, help me up. I’d like to kowtow to our benefactor.”
“There’s no need to do that, Mrs. Bale.”
I was shocked to hear that she wanted to kowtow to me, so I quickly stopped her.
However, Mrs. Bale insisted on getting out of bed.
However, she was not able to even after doing her best. In the end, she said dejectedly, “I’m so sorry, Freddie. My body is just too useless. Montana, you should kneel and give our benefactor three kowtows.”
“Alright.”
Montana did not hesitate at all. She took one step back and prepared to kowtow to me.
I quickly stopped Montana and said to Mrs. Bale. “Mrs. Bale, what are you doing? There’s no need for this at all. It’s not much effort for me to help you. You’re putting me on the spot by doing this.”
“You’ve helped us out so many times, Freddie. It’s only right for us to do this. Montana, kowtow three times right now.”
“No, please don’t.” I quickly rejected them, but this time, I was not able to stop Montana’s stubbornness.
She actually knelt on the ground to kowtow three times to me.
After Montana was done, Mrs. Bale said from her bed, “Each kowtow means something, Freddie. The first was to thank you for taking care of Montana. The second was to thank you for helping our family. As for the third, it’s because I have something to ask of you.”
“What is it? Please feel free to tell me, Mrs. Bale,” I replied.
