Chapter 102

“What do you think of Montana, Freddie?” “Montana?” I hesitated and said, “She’s a pretty good person. She’s beautiful and very kind.” “What do you like about her?” Mrs. Bale stared at me as she asked. Montana began to get anxious when she heard this. She shyly stopped her mother. “Mum, what are you talking about?” “Silly girl. I gave birth to you. Of course I know what you’re thinking about! You’re just too shy, and you always lack the courage when doing things. I can’t wait any longer, even if you can. My health is getting worse every day, and if you continue to drag this on, I won’t be able to see you in a wedding gown. I can’t die in peace like that.” Mrs. Bale turned to me after speaking to Montana. “Tell me the truth, Freddie. Do you like Montana?” After I realized what Mrs. Bale meant, I considered the question and nodded seriously. “Good, that’s good.” A look of delight appeared on Mrs. Bale's face when she saw me nodding. “If that’s the case, I’ll take the liberty to granr you Montana’s hand in marriage. Seeing Montana married to such a good person would allow me to die in peace as a mother. I have no regrets.” “Don’t say that, Mrs. Bale. Medical treatments are improving every day, and I will definitely come up with the money to treat your illness,” I said earnestly. I knew what Mrs. Bale meant to Montana, which was why I would do anything in my power to treat her. “I’m happy to hear your words, Freddie. I know my health best. Watching you both get married is the biggest gift heaven can give me.” I was silent when I heard this. I understood why she was doing this. She was forgoing her dignity as a senior to make sure her daughter had her happiness. She was not left with much time, so the only worry she had right now was Montana. That was why she wanted us to get together right here. I replied seriously at this thought, “Don’t worry, Mrs. Bale. I will give Montana happiness, but there’s something I don’t understand. Sean Carson is a terrible person. Why won’t you divorce him?” “Freddie, stop spouting nonsense!” Montana kept trying to hint at me with her eyes, trying to warn me not to talk about this. However, I went all out. “Sean Carson is always hitting and abusing Montana verbally. If you wanted her to have a better life, you should have divorced him long ago.” Mrs. Bale was silent when she heard my words. It took a long time before she sighed and said, “This is all my fault. I wanted to give Montana a complete family, so I brought her along when I married my first love. He treated me and Montana well in the beginning, but I had no idea he would change this much after I was paralyzed… This is all my fault. I’m to blame for this. I’m useless. It’s because I’m completely useless!!” Mrs. Bale got more and more agitated, and her eyes turned redder. In the end, she went completely mad. I was stunned as I witnessed this. It was only now that I realized that Montana’s mum was not only physically sick, but her mental health was suffering too. She would be unable to get a divorce through normal means under such conditions. Montana pushed me out at that moment. “You need to leave first, Freddie. I’ll come to see you in a while.” I knew Montana wanted to comfort her mother, so I quickly left the room to avoid giving her more trouble. Just as I was leaving the ward, I heard Mrs. Bale's heart-breaking howl. … It was more than ten minutes before Montana came out of the ward. Her eyes were red. She had been crying. I looked at Montana apologetically. “I… I’m so sorry. I had no idea your mother was emotionally unstable.” “It’s… It’s fine. I know you meant well, but if she could divorce him, we would have escaped this hellhole long ago.” “I’m… I’m sorry.” I had no idea what else to do but apologize. “It’s… It’s getting late. Let me take you home. You should get some sleep.” “Home?” There was a dazed look in Montana’s eyes. “What home do I have?” “I… I mean, let me take you back for some sleep.” “It’s fine. There’s no longer a place for me to sleep in that house. Sean turned my bedroom into a game room.” Montana mumbled. “Then where have you been sleeping all this time?” I was surprised. Montana did not even have a place to sleep? “I’ve been sleeping in the hospital as a bed companion. When I’m tired, I just lie on the ground for a quick nap. I’m pretty content to just be alive. What else could I ask more from life?” “Well, why not come to the hotel with me tonight? You can have a good night’s rest,” I said, feeling sad for her. I could only imagine how tired Montana had to be feeling now. “Alright.” Montana smiled at me and nodded in agreement. … It was ten at night when Montana laid down in my arms in the hotel room. I could feel her voluptuous body and smell her faint milky scent. If this was sometime normal , I would have gotten excited and thought about pressing her under my body. However, I was filled with sadness and pity for her. “Isn’t there anything you want to ask me?” Montana laid in my arms and looked at me tenderly. “Well, do you really want to marry me?” I was feeling quite in a bind right now. I truly did like Montana. However, I could not marry her. After all, I was already married to Layla, even though it was only a contract marriage. “Do you really want me to marry you?” Montana replied to me with a question. “Well… I just want to know what you really think.” “To be honest, I’d like to marry you, but I also don’t want to!” Montana said with the utmost difficulty. “What do you mean?” “I’d like to marry you because my mother hopes that I will. It's her dying wish, and I don’t want to defy her, but personally, I don’t want to marry you,” Montana said honestly. “You don’t want to marry me?” I was pretty surprised. “That’s right. I love you, but I don’t want to marry you. Can you promise me a few things, Freddie?” Montana asked seriously. “Go ahead.” “The first thing I need is for you to put on an act with me so my mother can die happy. The doctor informed me that she doesn’t have much longer to live.” “Fake a marriage? I can do that.” I agreed with a nod. “The second thing is for you not to actually marry me, is that okay? I don't ever want to marry!” Montana said seriously. “Don’t you like me?” Montana’s attitude surprised me. “It’s not that I don’t like you. It’s because I like you that I don’t want to marry you. My mother has gone through two marriages, both of which ended badly. Her experience has given me a deep fear of marriage. I don’t want to get married, nor do I want any children. I’m scared of everything that has to do with marriage.” “Are you thinking about leaving me?” I could not understand this about her. “No, I don’t want to leave you. I’ve already made plans for my future. I want to be by your side and become your lover, or even your nanny. Anyway, I will be the first person to appear in front of you if you need me, but I don’t need you to take responsibility for me. I don’t care who you marry in the future or how many women you have. I just need to be myself. That’s all. “Also, even though I don’t want children, I like them a lot. You can get me to take care of your children in the future. That would work out best for me.” Montana was serious about this. Her eyes lit up brightly when she was talking about it. I realized from the look on her face that she was being serious about all this. However, her thoughts aligned well with mine. I was now married to Layla and I would not be able to marry Montana even if she wanted me too. That was why her requests were completely fine with me. I nodded in agreement at this point. “Alright. I agree with all your requests. Is there anything else?” “The last thing is that I wish to see her divorced from Sean Carson ppst-mortem. I don’t want her next life to be corrupted by a scumbag like him.” “Alright. I agree to all your requests.” “Thank you, Freddie.” Montana smiled happily. “Since I’ve made so many requests, why not make one yourself?” “Requests, huh?” I chuckled. I did not say a word, but my hand was already on her busty chest.
