I made some wild guesses in class.
That was when Vincent suddenly called me on my phone.
I hung up immediately because I was in class and replied to him via message instead.
“I’m in class, Uncle Quinn. Is anything the matter?”
“Young Master, we’ve made arrangements for your blind date.”
It had already been arranged?
I was slightly astonished. This was too much of a coincidence.
Superstar Layla Owens had just decided to have a concert at our school, and Vincent was informing me about my upcoming blind date.
I did not believe these two occurrences were not connected.
“Is it possible to reveal who the date is, Uncle Quinn?”
“Young Master, it’s best we keep this under wraps for now. It’s nice to have a little mystery. Just believe me, she is definitely the most beautiful woman on Earth, and she is definitely worthy of you.”
“Alright. I’ll let you make the arrangements. I’m free for the next few days.”
“Noted. I’ll update you again once we confirm the time and location. Even though this is a blind date, it would be best if you’re able to successfully win her heart should you be interested in her. It would be good news for the board of directors.”
“Alright, I understand.”
Vincent had not said the exact words out loud.
However, I was quite aware that the board of directors must have paid a high price to arrange this blind date, and there was huge pressure on Vincent because of this.
That was why I could not disappoint them.
If I failed at something as simple as this, how could I convince the board of directors to trust me?!
“There’s another thing, Young Master. You can’t reveal your identity, or it will be difficult for us to conduct the next phase of our mission.”
“This… really makes it a little bit difficult.” I smiled bitterly.
What if my blind date was really the superstar? Why would she even be interested in me if I could not reveal my identity?
She would not be, unless her head had been kicked in by a donkey the day before!
“Young Master, anything is possible. I think it shouldn’t be a problem for you.”
“Okay, I’ll try my best.”
“Alright. I’ll contact you again once we’ve determined the time and location.”
“Got it.”
…
I received Vincent’s message in the afternoon after class.
The time and location for the blind date had been confirmed.
It was going to be at eight at night, and we would be meeting in the Starry Suite located at Pullman’s Hotel.
I began to feel unsettled after receiving the news.
It might be a superstar that I was meeting tonight, after all, and there was a high chance that she might become my wife.
I was distracted during the rest of my afternoon classes.
I kept scrolling through my phone, looking for any information I could dig up about Layla Owens online.
Once classes were done for the afternoon, I immediately ran home. I put on a fresh set of clothes after taking a bath and left for my date feeling energized.
…
Eight at night.
I arrived promptly on time at the Pullman Hotel.
The Pullman Hotel was the most renowned and luxurious international hotel in our city.
Government officials and celebrities coming from out of town usually stayed here.
My blind date had probably selected this location because she was staying here.
I got even more excited at this thought because the person I was meeting later had to be Layla Owens.
…
I stood in the hotel’s observation elevator as it flew up.
It was a pretty nice feeling to be able to see the city’s night skyline from the elevator.
It was no wonder rich people enjoyed staying in extremely tall skyscrapers.
Being able to see the entire city was an amazing feeling.
Ding!
I got off the elevator once it arrived at the correct floor.
I was surprised to see that the entire loft only had one suite.
I tidied my clothes and knocked on the door.
“Who are you?”
The person who opened the door was a middle-aged woman in a long, green dress. There was an attractive, mature charm to her.
“Hello, I’m here for the… blind date?”
I smiled and spoke to the woman.
“You? Blind date?”
The woman looked me up and down, and a look of disdain flashed in her eyes. “You must be mistaken. This is the Starry Suite. You should look for your blind date elsewhere.”
She was about to close the door.
I opened my mouth to try and explain.
That was when a sweet, crisp voice could be heard coming from the suite. “Sandi, who is that outside?”
“Just a random young man. Looks like he came to the wrong place,”
“No, I didn’t. I’m at the right place! I’m here for the blind date,” I quickly shouted into the room.
“Freddie Lang?”
The woman in the room hesitated. “Sandi, let him in. He’s the one we’ve been waiting for.”
“What? This is him?!”
The woman named Sandi looked me up and down once more, and she seemed to get even more suspicious about me. “Miss, are you sure this isn’t a mistake?”
“Yes, there’s no mistake. Let him in.”
Sandi finally unwillingly moved away to give me some way when she heard this.
I immediately recognized the woman sitting in the suite when I entered.
Just as I had thought. She was superstar Layla Owens.
I was mentally prepared for this.
However, I was still wide-eyed with shock when I saw her.
She was much more beautiful than she was in photos. I could say that she was a thousand, no, a million times more beautiful.
She was wearing a cheongsam woven with rich oriental tapestry. It showed off her luscious figure.
She had a head of shiny, dark hair, which was neatly pulled back. Her skin was fair as snow and she had a gorgeous face.
She sat with perfect posture, giving off a cold and distant aura.
She looked like an oriental beauty who had just walked out of the lyrics of a classical poem, yet there was still an air of modern charm about her.
One could say that she was beautiful from whichever angle one looked at her.
She was exquisite and elegantly refined… She looked like she had been birthed from an oil painting and was so beautiful anyone who saw her would be awed with breathlessness.
As I looked at her up and down, she sized me up as well.
I could see the disappointment in her eyes.
Even though she concealed it well, I was sharp enough to notice it.
She was not happy with me.
“Have a seat, Mr. Lang.” Layla gestured for me to take a seat.
I took a seat opposite her when suddenly, Sandi exclaimed from the side, “Miss, why do I feel like this fellow looks a little familiar?”
“Huh?”
Layla frowned. “Are you mistaken, Sandi? We just arrived yesterday!”
“We didn’t know him before this, but we bumped into him at the Sigmund Hotel washroom this morning.”
“That p*****t?!”
Layla was reminded about what had happened when Sandi mentioned it. They looked at me in disbelief.
I was reminded about what had happened this morning as well.
I had bumped into two women when I left the washroom with Montana this morning.
One of them had had sunglasses on.
As I had been anxious to leave and it was a particularly embarrassing situation, I had not paid attention to their faces.
Who would have thought that the only time I entered a female washroom, I would end up being misunderstood by my blind date?
“Urm… It’s not what you think. We were being hunted down by bad guys at the time and had no choice but to hide in the washroom.”
I frantically explained the situation, trying to change the bad impression they had of me.
However, I realized that no matter how hard I tried, I could not provide a clear explanation.
The disappointed look in Layla’s eyes became more obvious.
Sandi’s eyes were filled with disdain.
I knew the blind date tonight was about to go south!
How could this matchmaking session be a success when I was being seen as a p*****t?
I let out a long sigh and crossed my arms over my chest. I decided to just let it be since the situation could not be repaired. “You’re not going to believe me anyway, so let’s just let it be… If you think that I’m acceptable, we’ll go collect our marriage certificates. Otherwise, I’ll walk away and leave right now.”
Layla looked hesitant when I went straight for the main topic of the night. She asked, “I’d like to ask you a question. What’s your relationship with Vincent Quinn?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about…”
I knew Layla wanted to find out more about him.
However, I could not reveal anything, so I could only lie to her. “My third uncle’s cousin sister’s cousin brother’s sister-in-law made this arrangement for me. I don’t know any Vincent Quinn.”
“Urm…”
Layla was confused by my words, her pretty eyes blown wide open.
“Miss, since he’s not someone Vincent Quinn knows, what’s the point of getting involved with him? Let’s just leave now. You still have piano practice later.”
“Wait a minute.”
Layla ignored Sandi’s attempts to take her away. She asked once more, “Do you really not know Vincent Quinn?”
“I’ve told you I don’t know him. I think you’re really pretty. If you’re willing, let’s get married. If you don’t, we’ll just forget about this.”
I knew Layla would never agree to it.
I stood up, prepared to leave after I was done talking.
That was when Layla said something astounding. “I can marry you.”
