Chapter 25

“Hehe, alright. I’ll look at a few places and show you once I see something suitable.” “Okay, sounds good.” I went to class as normal after saying goodbye to Montana. The first class that morning was Cherry’s class. She might have thought up a good way to compensate me as she looked in quite high spirits. As for me, I focused intently on the class. Cherry wanted to see me in between classes. I knew the reason she wanted to see me, so I was not at all nervous. Instead, I was filled with anticipation. “Well… About yesterday, I was wrong about you. Please don’t be angry about it.” Cherry got straight to the point. “I’m fine. There’s no need to worry.” It was probably because I was prepared for it that I acted quite casually. “Alright. It’s good that you’re not angry. By the way, I remembered your birthday was coming up, so I took the initiative and booked a private suite for you. I’ve gotten a cake for you as well. We’ll celebrate your birthday for our class activity.” “Celebrate my birthday?” I was astonished. I had forgotten my own birthday. I really did not expect Cherry to know it. I was quite touched. “Thank you, Miss Quentin, but it’s not necessary. I’m not used to birthday celebrations.” That was because I was an orphan. No one had celebrated my birthday with me before. After some time, I began to forget about it as well… “That’s why we need to have a proper celebration, because you’ve never celebrated it before! Don’t turn me down. Besides, I’ve already made arrangements for the food and cake.” “Well, alright.” I could only agree when I saw how determined Cherry was. … Cherry had made reservations at a restaurant nearby our school. It was not particularly high-end, but it was not too shabby either. It had been chosen mainly because of its close distance. Everyone could walk there. After we were done with our morning classes, I walked to the restaurant with Chris. “Freddie, you really hurt my feelings.” “Huh, what’s wrong?” I could not understand why Chris would say something like that. “Why didn’t you tell me about your birthday? Am I not your buddy?” That was why, huh? I was relieved and explained to him, “I’ve never been in the habit of celebrating my birthday, which is why I haven’t told anyone before.” “How did our class teacher find out?” “Urm… She might have checked my files.” “You should tell me things like this immediately. Otherwise, I would be a failure of a buddy.” “Alright, I get it. Let’s hurry up and head inside.” We arrived at the location halfway through our chat. “Yup, let’s.” … My idea of a birthday bash was a lively and rowdy event. People would be eating cake, singing birthday songs, and making birthday wishes. It was not at all that way when I entered the suite. I found it was eerily silent. My other classmates were already there, but everyone was busy fiddling with their phones, and they had no intentions of even acknowledging me. This made me feel quite embarrassed… Chris noticed this and pulled on my sleeve. He said, “Let’s find somewhere to sit.” “Alright.” “Don’t be upset, Freddie. It’s just slightly quiet because the birthday bash hasn’t started yet.” “I know. I’m not mad. I’m happy enough that everyone could make it.” … We waited more than ten minutes before everyone arrived. The last to arrive was our class representative, Nadia. She walked in holding a huge cake shaped like a cow being milked. Chris got up when he saw her coming in, intending to help out. However, Nadia chose to open the cake box at this moment and begin cutting the cake… Chris was stunned and immediately tried to stop her. “Nadia, why are you cutting the cake now? We haven’t even sung the birthday song for Freddie yet.” Nadia laughed and said, “I don’t think that’s necessary. Our class teacher was just trying to find an excuse to get everyone together for a meal. Do you really think that Freddie Lang, the penniless boy, is worth us celebrating his birthday? Does he even deserve it?” “That’s right. Does Freddie even deserve it?” Howard and his lackeys immediately agreed with her. “You guys… You guys are too much!!!” Chris was furious. He took a step forward, planning to settle things with them. I pulled him back at this point and shook my head at him. “It’s fine. Just let them do whatever they want.” “But we’re supposed to be celebrating your birthday!” “It’s really fine! It’s no big deal!” “You hear that? Even the birthday boy is not bothered, so what are you mad about?” Howard said pointedly at Chris. “I…” Chris was clearly unhappy with this, but in the end, he returned to his seat. Nadia began handing out the cake slice when the situation had been defused. However, everyone got some cake, except me and Chris. Nadia caught me looking at her and said with a look of regret, “I’m so sorry. The cake is a little small, so there isn’t enough for you and Chris. You won’t mind, right, birthday boy?” “What the f**k…” Chris was outraged and immediately stood up, intending to have it out with her. However, I held him back as hard as I could and looked at Nadia with a smile on my face. “I don’t mind at all. You guys enjoy the cake. I’m heading out for some fresh air!” I stood up after that. Everyone began to give me condescending looks when they saw how I had just swallowed my pride over this. Howard even took the opportunity to say to my face, “See this? What’s the point of having money when you’re still nothing but a f*****g coward?!” Everyone laughed unapologetically when they heard this. … Chris followed me when I left the suite. “Freddie, they were too much! They really crossed the line!!!” Chris’ eyes were bloodshot from anger. He clenched his fist. “Just say the word, and I’ll go back there to give Howard a good beating.” “There’s no need for that,” I said with a chuckle. “Let them laugh all they want because they’re gonna stop laughing soon.” “Why? Are you planning something?” “More or less.” I was now positive that Nadia and Howard were dating when I saw the rapport they had. However, their relationship might not be ready to be publicized yet. A good revenge plan formed in my mind at the thought. “Just wait and see, Chris. Nadia and Howard will be the ones that end up crying.” … When we returned to the suite, everyone was talking about the concert. “Hey, did you guys know? People are now offering more than five thousand dollars for one of Layla Owens’ concert tickets, but there’s no supply, and it’s impossible to get one.” “That’s true. Those tickets are selling like hotcakes. I haven’t heard of anyone in our school managing to get any.” “Howard, do you have any way of getting concert tickets?” Nadia suddenly asked. “I’ve asked a friend for help getting them. I’ll give it to you the moment I get one,” Howard said with uncertainty. “You should hurry up with it. The concert is tomorrow night at eight. I don’t want to miss such a grand concert!” “Are you guys thinking about buying Layla Owens’ concert tickets?” I suddenly joined the conversation. “Yup. Can you get them?” Nadia looked at me with disdain. “What a coincidence. I am able to get them.” “What? You can?” The entire suite turned silent. Everyone turned to look at me in astonishment. However, they burst out laughing the next second. “Bullshit. Howard can’t even get them, but you can?” “We know you have some money, but this is Layla Owens. You won’t be able to get the tickets even if you have money, especially those VIP grandstand tickets. Those VIP tickets will only be given out via connections. Even our school’s dean could only get his hands on normal tickets. Are you telling us that your network is better than our dean’s?” Everyone started to speak sarcastically to me. I ignored them and looked at Nadia with a wide smile. “Well, Nadia, if I manage to buy those VIP grandstand tickets, how will you repay me?” “If you do get them, I’ll let you do anything to me,” Nadia said with disdain. “Anything?” I looked her up and down flirtatiously. I chuckled and said, “How about this? If I do manage to get those VIP grandstand tickets, you’ll let me f**k you once. How does that sound?” “You asshole!” Nadia immediately cursed when she heard this. “Shooting your mouth off, are you? Have you looked into a mirror recently? How dare you even think about f*****g me? Dream on!” “Hoho, if you’re too chicken for this bet, just say so.” I began to goad Nadia. Just as I had expected, she took the bait when she heard my words. She said angrily, “Who says I’m too chicken? A bet is a bet. Even if you’re f*****g shooting your mouth off, I’ll take the bet. I don’t believe for a minute that you can get VIP tickets. Since this is a bet, let’s be fair. What will you do if you can’t get the tickets?” “You’re free to suggest any punishment.” “How about if you run ten rounds around the field n***d?” Nadia said with ridicule. “Fine. It’s a deal.” With that, I took my phone out and headed outside to make a call.
