I looked around after I got to the corridor.
There was no one around, so I quickly called Layla on the phone.
It rang twice before she picked up. Her sweet voice could be heard from the other end. “Hello, who is this?”
Huh? She had not saved my number?
I was speechless. I cleared my throat and said, “Wifey, it’s me.”
“Freddie?”
“That’s right. It’s me.”
Layla was silent on the other end for quite a while before replying unhappily, “You’re not allowed to call me ‘wifey’ without my permission.”
“Alright, wifey.” I chuckled as I spoke, acting as if I had not heard her warning.
“When are we gonna get married?”
I was more concerned about when we were going to register our marriage than getting the concert tickets.
“I still need some time. Once I’m done with the arrangements, I’ll inform you. Is there anything else? If not, I’ll be hanging up!” Layla was clearly not interested in chatting further.
“Wait a minute,” I called out.
“I’d like to watch your concert tomorrow. Let me have some tickets.”
“Alright. How many do you want?” Layla asked nonchalantly.
“Four would be enough. I’d like VIP tickets. I’ll message you the address in a while. Send someone over with them as soon as possible.”
“Alright.”
Layla quickly hung up after that.
…
I typed out a message and sent it to Layla along with my location.
After that, I returned to the suite happily.
“Tsk, I didn’t think you’d dare come back here. I thought you had run off.”
Nadia immediately began ridiculing me when I walked back into the suite.
“Run? Why would I run?” I smiled widely as I looked at Nadia.
“The one who should be running is you. Remember, a bet is a bet.”
Nadia looked grim when she heard my words, but she forced herself to be calm. “It’s all fair game as long as you can produce the tickets. If you can’t get the tickets, stop with your bullshitting!”
“There’s no rush. I made the call. Someone will be delivering the tickets soon.”
“Ho, who would believe that?”
…
I decided to ignore Nadia once I was done talking, and I began to focus on eating.
Truth be told, Layla was pretty slow to send the tickets.
The tickets were still not here when everyone was almost done.
Nadia could tell I was getting anxious, and she began her ridiculing once more. “Aren’t you supposed to have the tickets by now, Freddie? Where’s your delivery? Have you been stood up?”
“What’s wrong? Are you so horny you can’t wait to sleep with me?” I chuckled and retorted.
“You… Shut your mouth!”
Nadia was so mad she viciously said, “We’ll see how you’re gonna deal with this when you can’t deliver on your promise for the tickets.”
There was a sudden knock at the door from outside.
A waiter came in with an envelope in his hand.
“Is there a Mr. Lang here? Someone requested us to deliver this to him.”
Was it really here?
Everyone was stunned to see the envelope in the waiter’s hand, and they turned to look at me.
“Give it to me.”
I got up and was about to take the envelope from his hands.
However, Nadia was one step ahead of me. She grabbed the envelope. “Let me have a look.”
She tore the envelope open impatiently.
Four Layla Owens concert tickets fell to the floor after she tore open the envelope. They were embossed with a golden ‘VIP’, which stood out brightly.
“Oh my God, those really are the concert tickets.”
Everyone was in extreme shock as their jaws fell open in astonishment.
Nadia’s face turned ghostly white as she mumbled, “Impossible. This is impossible.”
I picked up the tickets from the floor and dusted them off. I shoved them in Nadia’s face. “Well, are you willing to admit defeat?”
“Those are fake. They’re definitely fake. How would it be possible for you to get them?!!!” Nadia was panicking. She was insisting the tickets were not real!
“That’s right. They must be fake.”
Howard immediately agreed when he heard Nadia say those words. “Those are definitely fake. You must have gotten someone from the stationary shop to print them. There aren’t any serial numbers on these VIP grandstand tickets. That proves that they’re fake!”
Everyone took the tickets to examine them after hearing both of their words, as if they were all experts.
They examined the tickets while commenting on them.
“I think those don’t look like real tickets at all. Shouldn’t tickets have serial numbers on them?”
“That’s right. Freddie must think we’ve never seen VIP concert tickets before and is trying to trick us by making fake ones.”
Fake?
I sneered in my heart. Layla had personally given them to me. How could they be fake?
I snatched the tickets back and approached Nadia. “What’s wrong? Are you trying to back out from our bet?”
“I won’t back out of anything, but you can’t fool me by showing me fake tickets!”
“You’re not giving up until proven wrong, aren’t you?” I laughed coldly at her.
“Fine. I’ll take you to the concert with these tickets tomorrow night. We’ll see what you have to say then.”
“Fine.” Nadia clenched her teeth and agreed.
“We’ll settle this tomorrow.”
With that, I gave Chris a pat on the shoulder and left the suite first.
…
Chris came running after me and said breathlessly, “Freddie, what’s the deal with those tickets? Are those real or fake?”
“They’re real, of course.” I nodded seriously.
“Where did you get them?”
“Don’t worry about that. What’s important is that you bring your girlfriend along tomorrow to enjoy some entertainment.”
“Alright. See you tomorrow.”
“See you then.”
…
I returned to my rental home outside school after separating from Chris.
Montana was already home and was preparing for her night live stream.
I had nothing to do, so I clicked open my instant messaging to check if Cherry had sent me any messages.
I was disappointed to see no message from her.
I clicked on the group chat after that.
My classmates were deep in discussion.
They were talking about the bet between me and Nadia…
Nadia, our class representative, was a popular girl. As for me, I was the poorest loser in class.
Our bet had attracted many people’s curiosity.
However, they were siding with Nadia and not me.
Everyone felt that all four of my tickets were fake…
It did not matter to them who won the bet because either way, there was drama to be enjoyed. That was why everyone was invested in this. They were hoping to see things blow up.
They had even decided amongst themselves to be present at the concert the next day to serve as witnesses.
I was looking forward to them being witnesses at the scene.
That way, Nadia would need to reconsider if she was planning to back out of the deal.
…
The next day finally arrived with everyone waiting in anticipation.
The students excitedly ran toward the school stadium after classes were done for the afternoon.
Even though they had no tickets, they were still filled with zeal for the concert.
They were content with watching the huge screen even though they had to be outside.
As for me, I slowly headed to the stadium along with Chris and his girlfriend, Natasha York.
I could tell that Layla’s concert was going to be especially grand!
However, I was still blown away when I arrived at the location. All three streets to the stadium had been sealed off, and the traffic police were busy trying to keep the crowd under control…
Dozens of media outlet vehicles were parked right outside!
I felt numb as I took in the huge crowd. “My god, this is just too many people. They’re all here to watch the concert?”
“Yup. What else would they be here for besides the concert? Layla Owens is a major superstar. It’s the dream of many people to see her in person!”
“Is that so?” I nodded. I now had a better understanding of Layla’s effect on people.
“Let’s hurry up and get in line, Freddie. We’ll be able to get in with our tickets soon!” Chris said anxiously.
“Don’t be in such a hurry. We’re holding VIP tickets, and there must be a special lane for them. We don’t need to squeeze into line with the crowd. Also, I need to wait for Nadia to get here.”
“Do you think she’ll come here? She might have run off with fright.”
“I don’t think she would do that.”
As I was saying this, I spotted Nadia in the crowd. I waved my hand at her. “Nadia, we’re here.”
Nadia quickly approached us when she saw me.
However, she looked especially grim today.
I knew that she was under tremendous pressure right now.
I teased her. “Nadia, you should smile a little. Be positive. If I lose, you’ll be able to enjoy a n***d run from me. Even if you end up losing, you’ll still be able to enjoy Layla Owens’ concert. So, give us a smile.”
Nadia was angered by my words, and her face darkened further as she said, “Quit your bullshit and let’s go get your ticket verified!”
