He had a target in mind. Letting Lesley do with her shares what she wanted was a worthy price to pay for what he was after.
He was desperate to impress Mandy, so he was going to play nice to get her to soften towards him. It was obvious the blonde did not fancy him.
Margaret and Bill were surprised at his abrupt compliance, they never anticipated it. Something had obviously switched in the young man, and they were pleased.
Lesley was surprised at his compliance too but she wasn't pleased. She somehow knew his sudden niceness was prompted by Mandy and that irked her.
