CHAPTER 5

BRITTANY'S POV: "Uh… Mycseen," Dwayne said to the calm boy with the baritone voice who had stopped the squabble between the twins earlier. "Yes, Dwayne. Before you say anything, let me just say that I wasn’t pleased with the way you and Dawn handled things today," Mycseen said, clearly disappointed. "I’m sorry. It’s just that Dawn was being petty, and I got annoyed," Dwayne replied. "Don’t let little things get to you, Dwayne. You know James wasn’t happy about it either," Mycseen said. "I’m sorry," Dwayne apologized again. "Don’t apologize to me, Dwayne. We’re buddies, remember?" Mycseen said, giving Dwayne a playful wink. "Yeah... Well, won’t you say 'Hi' to our new student?" Dwayne asked. Say Hi to who? Oh no, Dwayne, I really don’t want him to say anything to me. "My bad, where are my manners? Hi, dear," Mycseen said. He was so charming - tall with nice, wavy hair. I couldn’t really describe him well, though, because I hadn’t taken a proper look at him yet. Stop, Brittany. Don’t admire him. Where’s your dignity? I scolded myself internally. "Uh... Hi," I replied, gulping and trying not to stare at him. "You’re welcome to our school. Everyone here is loving, so feel at home. Don’t worry about Dawn, she’s very nice once you get to know her," Mycseen said, chuckling. Seriously? It’s my first day, and he expects me to feel at home? I don’t even feel comfortable! My palms are sweating, my throat is dry, and I feel like I’m going to puke because I have butterflies in my stomach. "Thanks a lot," I replied, raising my head and sneaking a glance at him. He was all smiles. 😳 I quickly returned a faint, fake smile and turned my head in the other direction while Dwayne stared at us, almost as if she was watching a movie. "Won’t you throw some shots today?" Dwayne asked him. What shots? I wondered to myself. "I will, but not now, Dwayne. I’ll do that during sports time. I just came to tell you that James sent for you," Mycseen replied. "Oh, I see... Well, like I said earlier, I’m busy," she said, nodding her head. "I’m Jim Mycseen," he said, extending his hand for a handshake. Tea break! Is he supposed to introduce himself twice? I thought people only introduce themselves once? 🌝 I thought to myself, then decided to play along and be polite. "I’m Brittany Smith," I said, shaking his hand and giving a faint smile. We both let go after a moment. Soft hands… Oh my! "See you later... Bye, Brittany," Mycseen said as he turned to leave. "Hold it right there! You didn’t say goodbye to me," Dwayne said as Mycseen stopped and turned to look at her. "My bad… Bye, buddy," Mycseen said with a smile and walked out of the classroom. "What a day," Dwayne said, laughing. "Uh, Dwayne, what shots did you ask that boy to throw?" I asked innocently. "Oh, that. He plays basketball, dear, so I was asking if he was going to throw some shots today," Dwayne explained. "I get it," I replied, smiling. "You have nice friends," I said to her. "Oh, yes. Mycseen isn’t just a friend; he’s my buddy. He’s really nice, wealthy, and smart, but he’s snobbish to most people. Plus, he’s every girl’s dream guy," she replied. It’s a good thing I’m not every girl, because he’s definitely not my dream guy.
