On to Something
†
It had all begun a week prior. The sun had just dipped its head far away on the horizon, and a couple; Kanyoni and his woman, were on their evening walk. They had dated each other for a few years, and their relationship had started because of a laugh. They passed a field, maybe two or three acres. Who knows?
The field was peculiar on its own, it seemed to have a kind of strange energy around it too. Curiosity got the better of them when they had just passed the field and were a couple of steps ahead. They decided to head back.
Though abandoned, the compound seemed well kept with the lawn calling out to them. They yearned to enter the compound, what with its mystery and all. They hesitated for a bit, unsure whether to go for it or not. A very interesting dilemma they were in.
Should they take a step into the unknown…? or stay put where they were? It seemed like their curiosity and mind had decided to play rock, paper, scissors to put the matter into a rest, plus to decide the next course of action.
The battle raged on, but only briefly. The fabled curiosity that condemned the cat to the gallows to have its nine lives snuffed out emerged triumphant from the encounter.
Kanyoni was the first to take the first step forward onto the field. His gal, Rose, looked somewhat reluctant but when Kanyoni stretched out his hand to her, she curled her fingers to his and took a couple of steps forward towards him. It sure raised their excitement to a whole new level.
The silence was looming.., and the moon seemed to be shy that fateful night. A chilly wind began to blow out of nowhere, prompting them, to suddenly zip up their coats because the air had started to be a bit icy for their liking. Rose tapped Kanyoni and asked,
“Daddy,”
“ Hasn't it been warm just a minute ago..?”
“Yeah, baby.
“This place seems to have its own kind of weather or something.”
They strolled on, talking, taking a couple of stops to kiss. Rose commented on the lawn how it was neatly trimmed and the grass was healthy and green.
“The lawn is surely tempting to sit on,”
“daddy come..”
“sit with me, let’s chill here for a bit.”
He went to sit with his woman, enjoying a taste of her lips. He saw an old man, looking their way very keenly. When he blinked again, he was gone!
“The f**k!!”
“I thought I saw someone.”
“An old man staring right this way and..”
“When I blinked he was gone.”
“That’s strange.”
He loudly thought to himself as he bent down to sit on the lawn. His woman had heard him and asked him if anything was amiss. He held her for a moment or two and told her everything was cool, that there was nothing to worry about.
Slowly he brushed off that incident, as they lay there on the lawn, her head on his chest gazing at the sky in bliss. He felt a vibration in his pocket, someone was calling. He picked up the call
“hello..”
but the only sound he heard was a static echo. He checked the caller ID, surprisingly there was none. Rose’s phone started ringing but when she picked it up, she heard the same thing as Kanyoni. She stared at him with a bewildered look on her face. Looking at her he understood and said,
“Someone out here sure has a sick sense of humor.”
“Trying so hard to creep us out.”
Looking at his watch, he said
“Baby, we had better get going.”
“It’s getting late.”
