In my dream, I sensed someone leaving and another person entering. The newcomer was a woman who asked the person beside her, "When will this woman wake up?"
"Mrs. Carlson, she just gave birth and has gone through a shock. She's very weak, and I can't be sure," replied someone, probably a nurse.
"Then wake her up. She's just a worthless orphan. Do I really have to wait for her?"
"Well... Mr. Carlson instructed us not to disturb Miss Thompson's rest."
"I knew he cared about this woman. She's just a surrogate for my child. If it weren't for my health issues, she wouldn't even have the chance to give birth."
I struggled in my dream and finally opened my eyes to see two people by my bed.
"What did you just say?" I asked.
"Oh, you're finally awake. Miss Thompson, you sure know how to put on airs. I had to wait so long," she replied with a hint of sarcasm.
Ignoring her mockery, I raised my hand, which was hooked up to an IV, and grabbed her clothing, demanding, "Where's the baby? I want to know where my baby is!"
She looked amused. "Baby? What does that have to do with you? Leo hasn't told you, huh? He's with you just to have you give birth to a son to be raised under my name. You should consider your own position. You think you can claim the Carlson family's first grandson?"
Then she seemed to remember something and added, "By the way, I should introduce myself. I'm Leo's wife, the daughter of the president of the Campbell Group. I advise you to behave. Otherwise, I have many ways to make your life worse than death."
Her words struck me like thunder, and everything from the past days suddenly clicked into place.
Seeing my shocked expression, she delivered another blow by telling me, "How was it with those men? Did they satisfy you? I watched the video. You seemed to enjoy it, Miss Thompson!"
I glared at her, my anger boiling over. "Was it you?"
She seemed thrilled to provoke me. "That's right. I was worried Leo might care too much about you. Now that the baby is born, you're no longer useful to him, so I had him take his bodyguards to rape you. I chose them myself. And that drunkard? He's mine too."
I wanted to lunge at her and scratch her face, but my weak body wouldn't allow it.
Finally understanding the truth left me feeling utterly pathetic. What did I mean to them? Just a plaything? Or even less? A toy was tossed aside when no longer wanted, while I remained humiliated and battered.
"If you behave yourself, I can give you some money to leave here. After that, don't show up in front of our family again."
I realized I couldn't win against her, so I could only plead softly, "I don't want money. Where's the baby? Can I just see my baby?"
"Dream on. Remember, he's not your child. If you keep talking like this, don't blame me for teaching you a lesson."
After warning me, she turned and left, leaving me alone in the room.
Sunlight flooded in, blindingly bright. I pulled out the IV and stumbled to the window. If I jumped, I'd be free.
But I felt a surge of unwillingness rising within me. Why should the wicked live a happy life while I was left with no way out? My child hadn't even called me "Mom" yet.
I had to live!
I had to make them pay for this!
