Mason barely slept a couple of hours - his long eyes and rough hair-do showed that he wasn't exactly in shape following the events that occurred while she was asleep. Maddison walked him to her room while giggling and skipping joyfully - apparently she had found a new place to fix in her laboratory despite not even having spent a full day at their new residence. Underneath her room was a basement only she knew about. She found out that there was a door linking her room with the basement underneath - her discovery kept her in an ebullient mood all through the morning and Mason felt really happy for his little sister.
They finally entered into the room; unknown to them, Max was up and he followed them straight down to the lair. He tried all he could to make himself as unnoticeable as possible.
"So what seems to be the problem?" asked Maddison, confident she had an answer to what ever issue her big brother might have.
"Well last night, a huge ray of light shined down on me directly from the moon...which is super weird" answered Mason. He still looked a bit scared by the incident.
"I saw it too...but I didn't realise it shined into your room" Maddie continued gently pacing around the secret lair.
"Do you think this has something to do with the glowing scroll I picked up in Wisconsin?" asked Mason.
"Yes I think so...I think these series of events are a build up to something even greater. You have to be prepared for anything Mase" Maddie said as she pulled a lever on the other side of the room from where Mason stood.
"By the way...when do we get to tell Max about this?" asked Mason who didn't realise he was in for the shock of his life.
"About what?" said a voice from a far corner in Maddie's laboratory. The pair screamed so loudly that their voices almost caught the attention of their parents. Maddie made use of the adaptive nanotechnology phenomenon to create a plasma blaster from a small band on her wrist. She targeted it in the direction of the voice and yelled - "Who's that? Who's there?!". Maddie was ready to shoot if she didn't get a reply as soon as she wanted.
"Relax it's me guys" said the voice as it approached closer and closer, but the figure wasn't yet identified.
"Who's me?" asked Mason who also looked frightened.
"It's me. Max. You can put the gun down Maddie" said Maximilian who now knew of Maddie's secret.
"Don't ever do that again! Do you hear me?!" shouted Maddison who was now relieved she didn't pull the trigger a moment earlier.
"How'd you get here?" asked Mason.
"Well I woke up and saw you and Maddie walking in here and I decided to go check out what you two were up to!" answered Max.
"Well you didn't have to!" said Maddie who had to cut in so urgently.
"You have to promise to never tell anyone or else..." said Maddison before being interrupted.
"Or else what?" asked Max who folded his arms and bent his knees so he could speak 'face to face' with his little sister.
"Or I'll wipe out your memory!" screamed little Maddison. Max fell to the ground as a result and Maddie walked away to return talking to Mason.
"So my sensors picked up some heavy tracks of Macmillium about seven miles away from the center of this building"
"Wait a second. Do you mean the element that made the scroll glow?" asked Mason.
"Yes that's the one. It's been embedded there for a while and the Seattle City authorities recently gave up on their pursuit for the element. I think that's the last piece to this puzzle!" said Maddison.
"Can someone let me know what is going on!" yelled Max - he was completely cut out of the conversation. Maddie pressed a button on her vast control panel and it sent some simulated drones to fix a finely made leather mask tightly to his face. The mask not only kept him quiet but it electrocuted him whenever he tried to touch it!
"That should shut you up for a while" said Maddie looking eye to eye with Max.
"So what you're saying is that I have to go look for it?" asked Mason.
"No what I'm saying is that you have to stay put. The source of the energy hasn't had a steady location for the past year..."
"Which is why they haven't been able to find it!" Mason completed her statement.
"...According to the legend, the mystical 'virgam' will find you by itself" Maddison said.
"What's a virgam?" asked Mason who looked in utter confusion while and stern mutter from Max followed.
"It's a scepter you'll use to control your energy just like Uh...Thor's hammer".
"Oh yeah...I love that movie" said Mason.
Maddison walked towards Maximilian and removed the mask on his face to Max's surprise.
"Why didn't it electrocute you when you touched it?" asked Max.
"That doesn't matter! If you tell anyone about this you're gonna get it from me Max!" yelled Maddie.
"Alright! I won't" said Max.
The trio returned to the living room where some news which was sure to get some mixed reactions on their faces, awaited them, Mr Riecke just had his application to work at a stock broker firm in Ottawa. He initially made the application for the job around two years ago but due to a prolonged delay in receiving a response, he felt he had lost the job opportunity to someone else until today when he received an email that transformed his mood. Regardless of the fact that he would be moving to another country in order to earn enough mulla to make ends meet, Cherry already began accepting the possibilities - they needed money to settle bills and this one was good considering the fact that it would make him earn a lot higher than he would earn if he continued doing his regular day and weekly jobs. He already spent a large fortune out of his personal savings to move his family to Seattle, this one would make up for most of the money he spent.
"Kids there's some good news" Said Cherry who could hardly hold in her excitement.
"What is it Mom?" asked Mason.
"Why don't you guess" said Cherry.
As if to show disinterest, the trio of siblings walked away to head back into their rooms, but their Mom called back their attention.
"Kids wait...don't you want to hear what good news there is?" asked Cherry. The kids replied with murmurs and vain expressions. The loudest of their voices uttered "I really don't!".
"Anyway...your dad will be moving to Ottawa next week to start a new job at a stock broker firm". Cherry waited to hear the reaction of the kids - they managed to feign an excited look on their faces just to impress their mom.
"I'm glad you're all excited" Cherry said.
"Yeah we really are" said Maddie. Sarcasm was boldly written on their faces.
"Wait isn't Ottawa in Canada?" asked Max.
"Of course dimwit!" answered Maddie.
"So dad's leaving us for Canada when we only just got here?" asked Mason.
"That's hardly sounds fair" Mason said again looking at her mother.
"Well it's a step we'll have to take anyway" said Cherry.
"Don't worry he'll video call us from time to time and he'll come see us every winter season" Cherry continued.
"Okay mom" the three chorused and were about turning around to head back to their rooms when Mason popped up one final question.
"By the way mom...where is Dad? I haven't seen him all day!"
"I'm right here!" answered Mr Riecke who popped out from behind a small couch which was the only other thing in the sitting room.
"What were you doing behind that couch Dad?" asked Max who appeared to be the most scared to see his father pop out of a couch in that manner.
"I was listening for all your reactions. Don't worry kids...I'll never be faraway from you...I'll call and visit as regularly as I can. You hear me?" said Mr Riecke.
"Yes Daddy" they chorused yet again.
"By the way kids...I heard there's a winter fiesta a couple of miles away next Saturday and I'd love you all to attend" said Cherry.
"What?! I don't want to..." Mason said before Maddie put her hands on his mouth to shut him up.
"We'll go mom" said Maddie.
"That's great!" said Cherry.
Not long after, the house bell rung, it was the food delivery service who came with the food Cherry had ordered earlier. Cherry rushed to the door and get the meals after which they all ate a sumptuous brunch of burgers and French fries. The Rieckes chatted a lot more over the meal and the few moments without most of their regular home appliances made them bond even better!
