Chapter Thirty-Nine. “Mum,” I screamed down the halls the next morning as I left my bedroom. This was my plan. “I’m in the study,” she called back. I made a bee line for the study, rubbing my eye, causing it to be even more red. It was almost bruised after how much I had been rubbing it with my fist this morning. “What’s wrong, love?” My mother asked, turning to me in her chair, “oh my.” “My eye hurts, I don’t know what’s wrong,” I told her, stopping rubbing my eye to show her, “I think I need a doctor.” She squinted her eyes, peering closely at mine, “I will call the family doctor right away,” she spun around in her chair and to the phone on her desk. After she dialled she looked at me concerned, “you go rest your eyes, right now, Melina!” “Okay, okay,” I put my arms up in defeat
