Revenge is what I seek!
The screams of the night forced my eyes open.
“No, please…”
I heard my mother’s voice..so raw, so broken—it pierced straight through my heart.
I quickly shoved off my sheet. Something was happening.
Something dangerous.
And I feared it had to do with what I overheard the other night, when Father locked himself in the study. I heard two voices… and words that sent a chill down to my bones.
“We’ll give you whatever you want. Just don’t hurt us,” came the cry again.
I stiffened, but I kept tiptoeing toward the door.
Then.. a blast.
A deafening sound.
Followed by howls outside my window.
I rushed over and threw the curtains apart...
And that’s when I saw it.
My breath caught in my throat.
Fire bathed the pack.
Wolves ran, screaming in pain.
Most were too weak to shift.
But that wasn’t the worst of it.
This wasn’t an attack.
It was a m******e.
No!!!
I dashed to my door, heart pounding.
This couldn’t be happening.
What about my parents? Were they...
I grabbed the doorknob and turned it open, but before I could dash out...
A bloodstained hand grabbed me.
Shoved me back into the room.
I cried out in horror, twisting to see who it was—
And there she stood.
My mother.
Her face masked with her own blood.
She was bleeding profusely, too weak to shift into her wolf.
Still, she looked at my small face and gave me a bitter smile—despite the pain.
“Go under the bed,” she said, her voice trembling.
“Mother,” I cried, reaching for her.
But she pushed me away.
Pushed me under the bed.
Away from her. Away from the chaos.
“Don’t come out. No matter what,” she whispered, crawling beside me.
Her hazel eyes locked onto mine—
And I knew.. that might be the last time I’d ever see them.
“Stay alive, Belle. No matter what. Stay alive.”
Even though she trembled, she forced herself to her feet.
And walked toward the door.
Her feet were the only part of her I could see from beneath the bed.
And there, in the darkness, I lay still.
Trembling.
Frozen.
Unable to move.
That was when the door creaked open..
And I saw black boots step into the room.
My mother’s feet retreated. But not for long.
A low growl followed.
And then—the sound of shifting.
She was too weak to transform.
Too wounded to fight back.
And when he shifted,
the rest became a scar etched deep into my memory.
My mother collapsed to the ground.
Her golden hair spilled across her bloodied face.
But those eyes—those hazel eyes that once looked at me with love..
They were no longer open.
Frozen beneath the bed, I couldn’t move.
I couldn’t breathe.
My entire world had just shattered before my eyes.
Voices followed—deep, garbled, impossible to understand.
But I couldn’t focus.
Couldn’t think.
The shock numbed everything.
Tears slipped down my cheeks.
I wanted to run to her.
But her voice echoed in my mind..
"Do not be caught."
So I muffled my cries.
Bit my lips. And inched deeper under the bed until I reached the far edge.
There was a window just beside it.
Parted slightly.
My room sat on the second floor. If I jumped, I could make it.
So I climbed up carefully, holding my breath...
But just as I was about to leap.
I turned back.
And that’s when I saw him.
Those blood-red eyes.
He stood in his gray wolf form, watching me.
And in that split second..
I caught his scent.
*****
“Move, before I hit you,” a girl snapped behind me, slamming her shoulder into mine.
I winced and shot her a glare.
My thoughts had drifted again to that night.
So much that I hadn’t even realized the line had moved.
“What’s going on?” I whispered to my friend, Alba, who stood beside me.
Alba had thick, dark hair that flowed down her back..
Unlike mine, golden, and cut short.
Ten years.
Ten years since that night.
And I’m no longer the same girl.
I’ve become someone else.
Someone shaped by pain.
By survival.
By revenge.
I lived on the streets until I turned thirteen..Three years of fighting to stay alive, until Alba’s family took me in.
I’ll always be grateful to them.
But gratitude never erased the fire burning inside me.
Because all this time I’ve been planning.
And now I’m here.
At the Crescent Pack Academy.
The same academy run by the pack that destroyed my home.
I didn’t come here to learn.
I came for him.
“The selector said he’s only taking five people this year,” Alba said, shaking her head. “Maybe you’ll have to come back next year.”
My eyes widened. “Next year?”
I looked at the line..I was sixth.
Sixth.
Oh no.
I turned back to Alba. She only shrugged.
“I have to get in this year.”
Every year without revenge felt like betrayal.
Betrayal to my family.
To my mother.
The Pack Academy was the safest way into their territory. The only way.
It had to be this year.
Then I saw her.
The girl who’d shoved me earlier when I was spacing out.
She had pale skin, white curls, and stood smugly at the front of the line with her friend.
My jaw clenched.
No matter what it took..I was going in.
I grabbed Alba’s hand and started pushing forward.
“What are you doing?” Alba stiffened.
I didn’t want to explain.
Instead, I shoved the girl—just like she had shoved me.
“Oh, sorry,” I said with a mocking voice.
She glared at me.
“What are yo..”
She started to argue, but I slipped past her, taking the space in front.
“You brought this on yourself,” I said coldly.
Alba giggled and stepped in front of me.
Her friend gasped, “You perver—”
“We’re picking the first five,” the selector cut her off.
Luckily, Alba and I stood third and fourth in line..Which meant the girl would get in, but not her friend.
Her friend whimpered, but it was too late. The rest of us had already been selected.
“See you next year,” he told the others, and their shoulders slumped.
My face lit up as the selector led us toward the gate boldly marked..
Crescent Pack Academy
“Yes,” I whispered, eyes narrowing.
“Wait until I destroy you.”
