Chapter 1. Director's Name
A handsome young man parked his car outside a vast mansion and got out. He almost tripped on the doormat in front of the main entrance but managed to steady himself. He quickly went inside and hurried down to the basement. "Miss Katz!" he called out as he reached a door and flung it open. "Miss Katz, there's something you need to know!" A woman in her mid-twenties was lying with her head down on her desk, facing him while her fingers were still on the keyboard. Her eyes were half-closed, and she had bags under them like she hadn't slept in days. The young man entered the room with a scowl after seeing her condition. "Skyler Katz, I told you to rest. Why are you sitting here like a dead sloth?" he scolded her. She slowly lifted her head and gave him a weak smile. She knew she was in big trouble whenever her editor called her by her full name. "Oh, hi Ethan. I can't sleep. My fans are waiting for the next book." The young man, named Ethan, sighed and approached Miss Katz, concern etched on his face. "Miss Katz, I understand your dedication to your fans, but you must care for yourself. Your health is important too." Miss Katz nodded wearily, her fingers absentmindedly tapping on the keyboard. "I know, Ethan. But I feel an urgency to finish this book. There's something missing, a puzzle piece that I can't quite grasp." Ethan leaned against the desk, studying her. "What do you mean? You've always been able to weave captivating stories effortlessly." Skyler stared at the computer screen with a mix of frustration and determination. "This time, it's different. I got to chapter 5, where I stumbled upon an old picture that held the two main characters' past. I just don't know how to approach it in the story. If I could–" "That's amazing," Ethan interrupted, placing a hand on Skyler's shoulder. "Why don't we take a break and tackle it after a good night's sleep?" He scooped Skyler up into his arms and carried her to her bed despite her protests. "I can't sleep without my pills," Skyler groaned as Ethan tucked the blanket around her. "You're not eating that," Ethan said, pointing to the 3 cups of ramen on her desk. "And that’s not healthy." Skyler sighed. "Then how am I supposed to sleep?" Ethan grinned. "I have the perfect solution. You need to try some yoga classes." Skyler groaned again. "That won't work. I exercise every day and still can't sleep." "You never know if you don't try," Ethan said with a wink. "Actually, I came here to tell you something, but I guess you're unable to comprehend anything now." "What?" Skyler asked, curiosity sparking in her eyes. "Don't tell me you're quitting!" Ethan chuckled as Skyler grabbed his hand. "Don't leave! I can fix that; how much do you want?" Ethan looked at Skyler, his eyes filled with warmth. "Me? Quitting? No," he assured her. "You gave me a life, remember? Now I am going to take care of yours." Skyler's eyes brightened with relief. She squeezed Ethan's hand tightly. "Thank goodness! You scared me, you know that?" Ethan smiled and pulled up a chair beside her bed. "I’ve told you not to worry, Miss Katz. you always bring that up every single time I have news to tell." “Because you are not just my editor; you’re my younger brother.” “And you’re my older sister,” said Ethan. Skyler smiled warmly at him. “What do you have? Bad news or good news?” Ethan finally snapped back. “Good news, producers from the film industry have contacted us to turn one of your books into a movie!” Skyler woke up the next morning feeling slightly more refreshed than usual. As she got out of bed and stretched, she made a mental note to try those yoga classes Ethan mentioned. After a quick shower, Skyler made her way to the kitchen, where Ethan was already preparing a healthy breakfast. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, and she couldn't help but smile at the sight. "Good morning, Ethan," she greeted him, feeling grateful for his presence. "Morning, Miss Katz," Ethan replied, flashing a bright smile. "I thought we could start the day with a nutritious breakfast. I made some avocado toast and a fruit salad." Skyler sat down at the table, her stomach growling in anticipation. "Thank you, Ethan. This looks amazing." As they enjoyed their meal, Ethan filled her in on the details of the movie offer. A renowned production company had expressed interest in adapting one of Skyler's books into a film. The news left her speechless and excited. Then Ethan gave out the director's name who will make the film. When Skyler heard the name, she almost choked on her breakfast. “Miss Katz, are you okay? Here.” Ethan handed her a napkin. Skyler recovered after a milk drink and looked at Ethan with wide eyes. “Who? Who did you say…um… the director?” She asked, hoping she had misheard. Even though Ethan was confused about why Skyler was so shocked, he repeated the name. “Irvin, Irvin Yun. He’s the film director and creator of a new company called Larva Entertainment.” Skyler's mouth dropped to the ground. Irvin Yun was the man who had broken Skyler's heart years ago, and she had despised him ever since. The news that he would be directing the film adaptation left Skyler feeling as though her whole world had come tumbling down around her. No words could adequately describe the hurt and shock she was feeling. The memories of her painful past came flooding back, and she couldn't believe her worst nightmare was about to become a reality. How would she work with the one person she had despised for so long?
