“Do you know why I called you here, Silas?” Alpha Cardan finally asked, his voice quiet… too quiet.
I took a step forward, keeping my tone respectful. “No, Alpha.”
His head tilted slightly, his golden eyes slicing through the shadows to rest on me. “I think you do.”
I didn’t flinch. “If this is about my reassignment—”
“This isn’t about your reassignment.” His voice was sharper now. “It’s about you.”
He turned fully then, and the sight of him in that moment was something few men could withstand. It was not the rage of a wild Alpha, no. It was worse—the calm, unhurried scrutiny of a man who had already decided what to do with you, even before you walked in.
He circled me once, slow, deliberate. “You were transferred to the prison by Kai, correct?”
