The prison smelled the same — damp stone, sweat, and silence heavy enough to crush a man’s chest. I never thought I’d step foot here again, not after Kai had me reassigned. Yet here I was, walking down that dim corridor with torches licking shadows against the walls. Each step echoed like a whisper of defiance.
The guards at the post straightened when they saw me. One of them frowned, his brows knotting in confusion. “You again?” he muttered.
I ignored him. I wasn’t here for them.
