A dish best served cold
Best Served Cold
Prologue
Revenge. What a beautifully delicious word. I roll my tongue along sharp edges of teeth, and can almost taste it. Smell it. Feel it, in the rivulets of electricity passing underneath my flesh. Shocks of heat, power, passion, as I watch my prey. If she knew, if only she knew, she would run for her life, screaming into the nights’ sky.
Instead, she hits the alarm for her car, alone in a vast parking lot sans the rare distant vehicle. The light is dying from the sky, and I long to see the lights fade from her as well. I can almost taste her demise. My eyes follow her as she pockets the keys, and heads towards the brightly lit building. I watch as she walks away, c*****g my head at the view I am granted. Tight leggings under a long waist hugging tunic, she might as well have a target on that heart-shaped ass of hers.
Watching her, I chuckle from deep within my chest. Scream little lamb. Scream while you can. It has been a long time since she has seen him. She may not even remember him, but oh! Oh, he remembers her. In the end, in the end she will remember, and she will beg for forgiveness. Yes, She will beg. And cry. And plead. A small, slow, smirk grows on cold lips, and the apex predator slips away.
Chapter one
They always put the cereal she likes on the top shelf. Standing at a whopping five foot two, she doesn’t amount to much. The top shelf might as well be on the moon for all it was worth. Grabbing a box on the lower shelf, she uses it to try and bat the preferred box down. Mid fight for her treat, she hears someone clear their throat from behind her.
Startling, Amy drops the box in her hands and turns around expecting to be scolded by an employee. Instead, her eyes are treated with a darkly handsome man, tall with strong shoulders and a look in his eyes that resembled nothing short of red riding hoods wolf. His eyes burn into hers, as he walks towards her, as slowly and gracefully as a cat. There is an aura of danger that surrounds him, but the good kind. The kind of man that will give you a night you will never forget and a mouth that agrees you’ll be tasting his kiss forever.
She takes and involuntary step back as he gets close and holds her breath. Is he going to kiss me? Amy isn’t sure if she’d even mind. In fact, she hopes this handsome, dark stranger does. How unlike her!! During her self-scolding the man, never breaking eye contact, slides his body towards the ground and picks up her dropped, and until that moment forgotten, box of cereal.
Finally, the stranger breaks eye contact to look above her head, at the cereal she was trying to get with the first box. The second the eye contact breaks, she takes a breath. She’s almost dizzy now, realizing she has been holding her breath for several seconds now. Heart slamming in her chest, she turns her head to look up to the same point he is, then back to him.
She startles again, as she finds his intense eyes on her again, and seeing her jump must have been amusing to him, as the sexiest smirk she has ever seen crosses his face. A low sound rumbles within him. Was that a laugh? Is he laughing at me right now? She can’t help to think to herself, and feels the heat rush to her cheeks. He is still standing in front of her, still as a blade, and watched her go through these reactions.
Finally, he speaks, his voice a gravelly low sound. He is nothing less of a real man! The inner monologue involuntarily pops in her head, and once again Amy scolds herself for such a thought. His voice sounds like honey, sweet and syrupy. You can almost picture the words exit his mouth and caress you all the way down to …STOP! She gives her head a little shake. What the hell, am I in heat today or what! Taking a breath Amy looks at the stranger, who is still standing there watching her.
“What did you say? I’m sorry I missed it” Amy asks a little shyly. Her voice coming out much less confident than she planned. She cringed at her high squawk of a voice. Great, now he knows how much he is affecting me! How embarrassing!
He watches her flush a deeper shade of red, and his smile broadens to reveal white, sharp canines. He watches her eyes drop to focus on his teeth, his mouth. A cherry-pink tongue flicks out ever so briefly, as she licks her lower lip, before taking the lip in to nibble on it.
She is nervous. Good.
“I said” he repeated with a laugh “do you need a hand?”. Now he sees her color go from red to almost purple. She is so embarrassed now.
“Oh, yes, of course, I can’t reach my cereal, thanks.” He watches her struggle to break eye contact to look up at her favorite brand and point it out. “Could you grab one of those for me?” She turns back towards him, her question and embarrassment clearly written on her face.
He takes his tongue, and slowly slides it along his own lower lip, all while holding her gaze. Her focus dips to his mouth, and he watches as she mirrors the action, licking her own lower lip, before turning back towards his eyes. Taking a small step forward, his body so close to hers now she can feel the heat pouring off of him, his scent filling her. Strong, musky, masculine and all male.
She watches him move, almost in slow motion, as he reaches over her, grabbing her preferred box, before taking a step back and handing her the cereal. It takes Amy a moment to reach her hands up to take the procured food. This seems to amuse him too. He must think I’m an i***t! She shamefully scolds herself.
He is standing there now, a foot away, looking like sin itself and smelling like walking s*x, and all she could do is stare back. Words were at a loss, and the longer the silence rang, the more awkward she felt. All the while, he is simply watching her with his feral eyes. For a moment, she thought she saw the same desire reflected in that dangerous stare. That same deep need to be buried in a sweaty body-lock.
After what seemed like forever, he finally spoke again. “Aiden”.
“Huh?” she stumbled out of her living daydream. “Aiden?” Another licking of suddenly dry lips. “Did you say your name was Aiden?” Great! Let’s half pay attention to what this gloriously hot man is saying! That’ll win him over! Jackass!
Aiden smirked and nodded, “Yes, my name is Aiden. This is normally the part where you tell me your name.” He smiled wide to show her he wasn’t being mean, but playful.
Laughing nervously, feeling like a dolt, Amy told him her name, though it was still in a squeaky voice. How could someone she doesn’t even know affect her this much?!?
“Amy, beautiful name for a beautiful woman, nice to meet you!” Aiden stuck out his hand in a formal handshake, and Amy took his hand in hers to complete the shake. He shook her hand twice, before grabbing her hand in a slightly firmer grip, pulling her hand so it was knuckle up, and towards him. Gently, ever so gently, Aiden bowed and laid a little kiss upon her knuckles.
The heat from his mouth seemed to spread from her knuckles, over her hand, and all the way up her arm. She could feel the red yet again coming back to her cheeks. She wanted that heat anywhere, everywhere. This was so bizarre! She’s never had this kind of reaction before, let alone one over a silly little hand kiss. What was this man doing to her? Whatever it was, she did not want it to stop.
Amy realized that her hand was still in his, and she liked it there. He was unnaturally warm, body heat rolling off of him in waves. She loved that, especially when she was the type to always be cold. Even in the dead of summer. She wanted nothing more in that moment, than to curl up with him in bed. Whoa girl! Calm yourself!
Aiden, still watching her fighting her inner monologue, smirked. When she drew her eyes back to him, in the present, he solely brought his head back down and kissed her hand again, but this time he decided to turn the heat up a little notch. He kissed her hand, softly, just like last time, but this time he opened his mouth slightly and allowed his tongue to dance slightly across her knuckles. A little lick, with his little kiss, to show her a little taste of what he was capable of.
Her hands smelled wonderful. Like fruit. He was half tempted to bite into it, like an apple. He would bite into her flesh soon enough though, he just had to weigh his time better. The moment will come, and his patience will pay off. He WILL get his revenge. Patience.
Chapter two
Amy couldn’t get the random meeting out of her head. She moved about her kitchen like a zombie. How often do women meet the men of their dreams while doing their normal food shopping? Things like this don’t happen in real life, right? Right?!? She wasn’t totally crazy for inviting him to come over for a cup of coffee, right? She’s an adult and can do these things. Adults are s****l, and can have random hookups, right? Ugh, she was so torn.
The flush of a toilet from down the hall made her snap out of it. He was here. They were both adults. Whatever happens, happens. Right? Right. She listened to his steps as he followed the hall back into the kitchen, as she placed the last item in the fridge. Coffee was on and smelling wonderful in the slightly cold room. Nothing compared to his scent though. She could sense him enter the room. The very air around him seemed to change, and she could feel his eyes upon her as she moved around the kitchen, grabbing two mugs and bringing over the sugars and creamers to the table in the center of the room.
Aiden moved over, looking at her mugs, little out a little snort. “Like unicorns eh?” He said, holding up a mug that was unicorn themed. Even the handle was shaped like the unicorns tail. His was dark blue, also with unicorns and stars on it.
Amy flushed again and nodded her head. “Yea, It’s kind of my think. I like mystical creatures”.
“Cute” he said nodding, before placing his mug back down on the table. She poured her creamer and sugar into hers, and watched as he took a small sip of his, black.
“Black, no sugar?” she asked, as he put the mug back down.
“Yup”
“Ahh” she awkwardly put the creamer back into the fridge and tried thinking of something, anything to say. Her mind kept coming up blank. She turned around to see Aiden by the stove, staring at her knife block. He gingerly, almost lovingly, flittered his fingers among the handles of the blades. A small smirk across his face. She felt a tightness in her chest when she saw this. Did she seriously just bring a stranger home, who is now looking at her knives?!? What is wrong with her?! This is how women die!
“Those are new, you like them?” She asked, trying to break the ice.
“Mmmhmm” he mumbled while still staring at collection.
“You like cutlery?” Amy tried again.
“Yes, I like sharp things, it’s why I liked you” Aiden replied.
She wasn’t sure how to respond to that statement. “You like me because I’m sharp?”
Aiden turned his attention from the knives, finally, and looked at her. She was so small, so delicate, standing there. Barely at five foot two and weighting next to nothing, she looked so fragile. Breakable. He could see the warning bells going off in her head, yet she stayed calms. Indeed, she was sharp. Had she panicked; things wouldn’t have ended so well for her. Or him for that matter, he wanted to play with her, and a quick slap of metal would have cut it too short.
Knowing the alarms in her head were going off, made this game so much more fun. Too easy and it would have been boring. He wanted to play with his food, after all. If she only knew how much danger she was in right now. Aiden smiled darkly, and leaned against her counter, away from the blades that made her clearly worried.
“I was a chef before, but the stress of it got to me after a while. I love seeing a good set of blades. You wouldn’t believe how bad a dull or bad knife can destroy a perfectly good piece of meat” He watched her de-stress right in front of him after that. Good she bought it. Hook – line – and – sinker.
“I could imagine that being an issue. Makes sense” She let out a long breath and laughed at herself. This whole situation was insane. Maybe he should go after all.
As if he could read her mind, Aiden took a step towards her and slowly, so she could see his hands, touched her face. He could see her starting to relax more. “Good girl” he mumbled, as she briefly closed her eyes and rested her head against his open palm.
Hey eyes flew open and looked up at him. Did he just say good girl?! Why did I enjoy that so much?! She looked at him a little confused, and a little aroused. He caught both of those expressions easily and smiled.
Slowly, he dragged his hand down her jawline, across her ear lobe, and then lower. Tracing the natural lines of her body. His hand sliced along her throat, eventually making it to the point where his thumb was on one side and the rest of his fingers were on the other. Her eyes opened wide when she realized the predicament she was in. He could easily choke her! When he applied slight pressure, she panicked a little more.
Aiden stepped closer to her body, pressing her between him and the counter, hand still to her throat, before whispering in her ear, “say my name”.
She shuddered at this intrusion. She’s never had anyone treat her like this, never even brought a stranger in her home! What was she doing? Yet, her body wound up betraying her. She found herself whispering his name back to him, with a trembling voice.
“Aiden” she whispered again, as his nose slightly bumped along her jawline, his hand still on her throat.
“Good girl, Now, will you remember my name?” He growled, as his teeth grazed her earlobe.
The connection made her body betray her once again, as she found herself pressing closer to him. Needing more of him. More connection. More of his touch, his teeth, hos words.
A small chuckle escaped him as he asked the same question again, “Will you remember me? Remember my name?” He gave her ear a little suck along with a nibble this time. She let out a gasp as the shockwaves from his attentions went through her. She could feel her own wetness between her thighs. All doubt flew from her, and she knew at this moment that no matter what, she needed him. Needed this.
“Aiden, yes” she said again, this time stronger, though still at a whisper level.
He let out a low growl, right into her ear, causing a shudder to rip through her. When he took her ear back onto his mouth she let out a moan and grabbed onto his shoulders for dear life. He roped a hand behind her back, pulling her to him, as his mouth worked from her ear, to her jawline, to her open throat. Amy leaned her head back, allowing him more access. All the while letting out little noises and letting his name slip from her mouth over and over again.
He ground into her slightly, allowing her to feel his growth. His need for her to feel him too, feel his need for her. She wasn’t alone in her desire for this. That’s when he took her completely by surprise and lifted her straight off the ground, placing her on the counter.
Amy’s eyes popped open at the sudden change, and a small giggle escaped from her mouth. Aiden pulled away then, from her, leaving her panting and sitting on the counter, feet dangling and flushed from his kisses. Her whole left side red from his mouth. With a smirk, Aiden crossed his hands in front of his chest and took several steps back.
Amy frowned. She didn’t like this game. She wanted him to keep going! Staring at him, annoyed and slightly hurt, she waited for him to do whatever he was going to do or say. Finally, Aiden spoke.
“Will you remember my name?” Aiden stood there, hands in front of his chest, looking every bit like an authoritarian.
Amy looked at him confused. Maybe he thought she would sleep with him and forget him? Is that what this is about? Well, that’s an easy fix. “Aiden, you are the most remarkable man I have ever met. I promise you, I will never forget meeting you, your name, or anything else. I’d actually like this to continue, and maybe for more than a night too. Don’t worry, I’m not going to forget you or go anywhere”
Aiden smiled, unfolded his arms, and walked towards Amy, who smiled back at him. That must have been it she thought to herself.
Aiden kissed her on the nose, said “good”, and then turned away, walking out the door. Amy was still sitting there, stunned and confused, when she heard his car start and leave the driveway.
“What the hell just happened?” she asked the empty room.
