Chapter Twenty Three

Kai

We get into my fathers car, my heart rate begins to fluctuate, my wolf surfacing, I feel like I am going to lose myself in anger.  I hear his voice “breathe, breathe,” His massive hand placed on my back, only someone close to me could touch me like that and calm me down.  “You did well Kai, I am proud of you…”  Chase is slowly rubbing my back, the situation we encountered was one of the hardest experiences of my life.  Having to act that I had no emotions or feelings about my beautiful Cara, my angel, just thinking about her helps me regulate my breathing.  I have never lost it like that before.  My brother and I have always been brought up to have a tough exterior, love and tenderness saved for those we love and trust the most.  I close my eyes and lean back, trying to get my breath to an even level before reaching the dungeons.  I begin to think of her, her ivory skin as soft as silk, her eyes as clear as water, It feels as if they could penetrate my soul.  Last night sleeping next to her was the best experience of my life, her gentle breath on my arm, lulling me to the best night sleep.  

“It will be over soon, then we can go on and claim what's ours,” My brother's voice pulls me from my daydream.  He is staring at me, searching for what I need.  He has always been like that, always looking after me, always making sure that I am ok.  He puts everyone else’s needs before his own.  He deserves his Alpha position, he has worked hard, taken care of this pack, trained our warriors, led by example.  I am so happy he has found his mate too, he deserves some happiness of his own.  I am glad our mates are sisters and understand the sibling bond.  A smile begins to surface on my face, I am calm and know what I need to do.  I need to continue for Cara, for Emily and most importantly for Chase.  I am so lucky to be his Beta, to stand side by side with one of the most powerful Alpha’s that would ever exist.  Now that we are mated to the Power of the Lavarose, we would be invincible.  We are responsible to stop this war that is looming, us and our mates.  

Chase looks at me and begins to smile, he knows I am calm, he knows I will stay that way till this is over.
