“Alpha, we found her,” Alexander came rushing back after a few hours.
Lucas couldn't quite comprehend the speed he exhibited standing up and running out of the pack house in order to get to where Emily was found as soon as he could.
Not far away from their pack's territory, there is a small village of Rogues, lead by a self proclaimed Alpha named Timothy— whom Lucas has already encountered once.
“Alpha Lucas, it is nice seeing you again.”
The mischievous smirk in Alpha Timothy's lips was annoying. Lucas wanted to wipe away the smug look on his face, and had to remind himself not to taunt the Alpha, for he still has something to ask him about.
“Alpha Timothy, I can not say the same.”
“What have you been up to and why is this visit so sudden? My little town is in chaos right now. Us, Rogues, could not cater the famous Alpha of Howling Tribe to the best of our abilities.”
“We would not stay for too long, so I will not mind. It has just come to my attention that a run away pack member has strayed around your territory. And we are here to find her.”
“Oh? The girl must be special for the alpha to come and get her himself, then,” Alpha Timothy's smirk got even wider, “Or no?”
Alexander, shaking his head as he realized how piled up the emotions in Lucas were, stepped up and offered to be the one to talk to Alpha Timothy before Lucas could burst.
He needs to thank Alexander later, Lucas thought to himself.
“Anyway, you can go around and look, Alpha Lucas. We are no harm and everyone knows you and your pack are super friendly neighbors—”
Alpha Timothy didn't need to finish his sentence and leave any form of warning. Lucas already started running as fast as he could, following the faint scent he could now smell.
Emily. He could not be mistaken. He was definitely smelling Emily.
He only had the same name and face in his mind, circling over and over. Emily. Emily. Emily.
Not long after, he sees sight of her. The girl is smiling profoundly while talking to an old couple by a small house near the mountainside. She looked... stunning and gorgeous, as she always does. And she looked at peace, happy.
“Emily!”
Turning over her side, Emily's eyes widened in pure shock, her heart started to race, “Lucas...”
“Whare are you doing here?” Lucas panted, “We have been looking for you!”
“Lucas, I—”
“We are going home, discuss it back in the pack house. Let us go.”
“I am not going with you, Alpha.”
“Emily!”
“I am tired of hiding behind your shadow, Lucas. I... I grew up alone and I was able to protect myself for that long. I can survive on my own whether I am under your custody or not. I am not exactly weak,” Emily said, “You should not keep on shielding me, and I will not let you put your own position and hard work to waste just to keep me unharmed!”
“Emily, it is my duty as your mate and Alpha.”
“But I have my own uniqueness, too, Lucas. I can... I can do anything without your help. I am not a usual omega who will just... bow down to her Alpha and follow every order. I am a person of my own, Lucas. I want you to respect that.”
“Emily, I love you. Okay... just... please go home with me?”
“No. I am not coming with you.”
“But—”
“You should find someone who will better suit you, Lucas, someone who is more compatible to be your Luna. Someone who will fully submit to you, who does not think like I do. And it is not me. I am sorry.”
But Lucas loved her independence, but also her vulnerable side whenever she would grasp his back and bury her face in his chest. He loved how free spirited Emily is and was, how she would not hesitate to do what's on her mind instead of what others tell her to. Those were some of Emily's characteristics that made Lucas fall more deeply in love with her. Even though the Alpha couldn't say it directly despite wanting to.
“I, Emily Lancaster, now a rogue again, am rejecting you—”
“No, Emily. I am not accepti—”
“and your offer to make me your Luna, Alpha Lucas Sullivan of Howling Tribe pack.”
With that, Emily's tears fell down as she transformed into her wolf for the first time in front of Lucas's eyes, then she started running away.
Lucas was not able to chase after her. He was not able to even move a muscle and speak. He felt so vulnerable he might collapse in the ground crying anytime from then.
“I will never, never accept that rejection, Emily. I know you love me and want to be with me, and I also do. I will make sure to eradicate every hindrance in the way the next time we meet. And I hope when that time comes, we can still be together.”
“I love you, Emily,” Lucas whispered to the thin air, wishing he was instead telling it directly to the girl, “so much, that it is starting to hurt right in my chest. Let us see each other again, one time or another, sooner or later, just... I wish we do. I promise to find you and bring you back here, with me, my mate, my Luna...”
